View Full Version : Lawzy's "Long Way Up"
OK I've just read Nutter's thread about his oddisy up to Brissie and I'm thinking of doing the same. It's not for a few weeks so I've got plenty of time to prepare. I'm thinking of going up the putty to Tamworth, then east on the Oxley (Day one), then north and back to Armidale on the Dorrigo then New England to Stanthorpe or Warwick (Day Two), then over Cunninham's Gap to Mt. Tamborine then home via the M1 on Day three.
I've left plenty of time for each leg as I know I'm going to want a few breaks and I think I can talk the missus into driving the support cage (She'll just have to play catch up in the mighty swift :lmao:
I'll have my bivo and sleeping bag in the car, MRE's, Hexy stove and booze as well. We don't have enough money to pay for accom. the whole way up so it'd be strictly ghetto spec camping, I'm looking forward to it almost as much as telling Nicci that we'll be camping :lmao::lmao::lmao:
Any roads that I simply "Must Do"? I'll most likely be wearing leathers with thermals if I need them with a "dry sack" in the car for sleeping. but if it looks like rain I'll just soft out and drive up or fly :ayyy:
Thoughts?

That will be a good run Lawsy, don't worry about sleep overs, it's a day run!!!:lmao::lmao:.
Watch for coppers & diesel over Cunninghams Gap, either way, over or around Tamborine is gooood! Dorrigo to Grafton is good, then cut up from Grafton to the New England. enjoy.
Cheers,

That would be awesome, thanks heaps Mozz (and Mrs Mozz :ayyy:)
This is still very much in the planning stages and I'm yet to convince the missus but I can't wait :ninja:.
There certainly will be plenty of photos, I always seem to turn up with a flat battery or no memory card or something but I'll make sure.
Lock it in Eddie!
I'm riding up this friday for my best mates Engagement party (and surprise mum for mother's day :ayyy:) Then I'll come down over the 3 days in reverse order to how I'd planned it originally. :mod_smilie_rockwoot: :mod_smilie_rockwoot:
This will be RIPPIN'!!!!

Undies mate undies, Oh and hold your mouth right or you wont ride properly:lmao: See ya on Tuesday and I might just have a cold one in the fridge for ya after your day of :ninja:
WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
If you guys are ever in Brissie you have to do the "Sportsbike's Threesome" Mt Mee, Mt Glorious and Mt Nebo. :mod_smilie_rockwoot If you love curves then this is the most velumptous bitumen I've ever ridden. It's treachurous though, 3 bikes in 3 hours died up there on friday alone and the ambo's where up there this arvo when I went for my run. My mate also bit the armco on saturday twice but he's ok, just a bruised ego and a wrecked first bike :hatter: It's funny, some of the corners are marked at 40km/h but they should be more like 60km/h and some aren't marked at all but I'd call them 25km/h corners :confused1:. It really keeps you on your toes, especially when the local cages use both lanes to get around corners in thier "urban SUV's" yet rant and rage when you do 10km/h over the limit.
I got a bunch of photo's on my camera phone (didn't have enough room to bring the SLR along :()
My accomodation for the first night fell through so tomorrow I'll be riding down the New England Hwy through Cunningham's gap down to Armidale then along the Dorrigo to Port Macquarie where Mozzie has kindly offered his hospitality. Then west along the Oxley and down the Putty to Windsor which is only 5 k's from home :D
I'll post photo's when I get home as I can't connect my mobile to the computer up here.
See you'se all on wednesday night :mod_smilie_rockwoot

see ya here tomorrow arvo mate.I done the Oxley over to Armidale,Dorrigo, Bellingen Pub for the night and back the same way last week. Waterfall way(Dorrigo mountain)has a couple of stop go lights on it for roadworks but the road is in good nik.
Well, I'm back :Kat00: :ayyy:
Thanks heaps to the Mozzies for putting me up and fixing my bloody foot peg. I've done 3000k's since friday and the only stack was on Mozzies driveway :dohsmiley: (Caught the edge of the concrete and the grass.)
My feet are sore :confused1: Well that was fun except for my tire disintigrating all the way home from walcha
The bike turned 10,000k's aswell, I've now done 11,058 :mod_smilie_rockwoot
Pics will follow but they're just shitty camera phone pics

How did you like the Oxley mate, you left fairly early was it dry up there for ya.Top day for riding. What was going on with your tyre, the rear was it?
Yeah, the rear. I knew it was getting low but it was above the wear markers when I left brissie and it copped an absolute flogging up the Oxley :ayyy:. It just got a little loose towards the end.
Oxley was awesome but Thunderbolts was really quite scary, the road itself was in a bad way and some of those downhill blind corners are terrifying :baby: but it was a nice day.
I can't get my flickr or photobucket accounts to upload,I'll get it sorted coz there's some nice shots here.
