MCP= Maximized Contact Patch

NST= Near Slick Technology

SRT= Silica Rain Technology

SCT= Synthetic Component Technology ("fast warm-up, allowing you to put a knee down as soon as the first corner")

CPT= Competition Profile Technology.... taking the maximum lean angle from 45deg to 60deg!!!! :mod_smilie_rockwoot

I'm not so sure... what's the thread depth? Is there any restriction to where and how the thread must be placed on the tire? Cause if there isn't it might just be road legal too...
Regardless, it seems to be a top tire. Would definitely like to take a set for a spin. I'm sure that in time the experts will tell us what's the best combo for EC/OP/WP/PI 'cause the fact that you can choose a different compound for each side of the tire does sound like an advantage and a half.:ayyy:

I was also thinking this.. :lmao:

I'd like to give them a go. I can't remember what the requisite land/sea ratio for the road is but being Michelin you can generally trust it to be a quality product.

What sought of price range would they be in Brendan ?

( only thing that resembles shinko's is tread pattern, these are round ffs, not square :lmao: )

We need a EC compound with harder rubber on the left for those who can't turn their tyres.. how about it Michelin?? :n::ayyy:

Yes, some are road legal.

They have: 27 tyres, 16 different compounds

Of that 20 models, 8 sizes and 9 compounds are for "road riding, racing or track days"

I will have more of a talk with my supplier to find out any further details on monday.

Will let you know.

They are also reversable. That way it doesn't matter what side you want the soft side on.

The AST has a extra soft one side, soft on the other and a medium in the middle.

Unfortunatly this tyre is only available in the 16.5" slick.

I was running a Power one C 190/55/17 and a 120 Power one V

I tried and tired to get this tyre to spin up and do something wrong no chance

When comparing to a pilot 2CT the power was heaps hotter and you could feel how soft it was.

The front tyre did not move at all as well i was actually surprised how well they gripped even when cold.

I am sure you trackday guys will love them

How good does this read - buy MotoGP spec tyres over the counter!

"the boffins at Michelin have been able to produce a triple compound tyre with a harder compound in the middle, a soft compound on one side and a super-soft qualifier type rubber on the other. The sides are denoted by a + and a - sign on the sidewalls with + being soft, - being super-soft. What it means for the rider is that he can simply choose which way to run the tyre based on the track"

No point AUS will be lucky to get them this year as I already asked him about them & that is info he revived for importer (we all know who importer is). Why the importer sent out promo gear is anybodies guess :confused1:

Makes me wonder how many kms the road and track version will lasts. Since it warms up so fast I would guess that it would be very similar to BT002.

March 10, 2009 - Kenny Pryde
Michelin came out guns blazing at Portimao circuit with a world launch of three new Power One tyres in a bewildering number of compounds. From sporty-road and trackdays tyres through to full-on competition slicks via a club racing Michelin Power One Competition tyre, there are 864 possible combinations of tyre and multi-compounds available in the new range. Thankfully, there is also an excellent and easy to use new website, www.michelinpowerone.com (http://www.michelinpowerone.com/) to help us all work out which tyre is the best for the riding and conditions.

Essentially the Power One is a replacement for the Power Race range, though since Michelin has opted out of MotoGP and been shut out of both the world and British superbike championships by mono-make championship rules; it has focused on other competition arenas to continue its development. Now that it's out of the MotoGP bubble, perhaps the tyre compounds, performance and design will indeed be closer to the needs and riding of more riders?

Anyway, there were over 40 journalists from magazines from Japan to the US with all points in between at Parkalgar circuit to test the three tyres – a road-oriented Power One, a Power One Competition and a Power One Competition slick in 16.5 inch. There are also full 16.5 inch wets which were “straight from MotoGP” but since it didn't rain, we didn't ride them.

The Michelin Power One treaded duo, the Road and Competition models – in 17 inch sizes only – comprises of 20 models available in eight sizes, for most popular sportsbike sizes. There are no fewer than nine different compounds and all are homologated for road use. The compounds are split into A, B and C types, each of which is suggested depending on the track or road temperature allied to the abrasiveness of the road of circuit. 'A' is for cold days and will heat up quickest while 'C' is for endurance on warmer days. Let's put it like this. The bikes on the launch were caned all morning by journalists on Portimao where it was around 17 degrees air temperature and we were on B and C compounds tyres and they never skipped a beat. That's lots of laps and lots of heating up and cooling down too.

How are the tyres? Yet again I have to say they are astonishing. Even the Power One Road tyre performed extremely well in conditions which were nearer the limit of what it was designed to do. We all know how hard it is to describe where confidence and feel come from when riding, but tyres play a huge role. From the first couple of laps, once you settle down a bit and the tyres are up to working temperature, you stop worrying about side grip or stability under heavy braking or trailing the brake into corners or gassing it with more confidence on corner exits, you just get on with it.

But it gets better. It only took a lap for me to feel the benefits of the Competition Power One. It's invidious to compare tyres when you are relying on memory, but these hoops felt like the handmade Dunlops I did some club racing on last year, the D211. As far as I was concerned, the Competition Power One had the same sticky yet solid feel from the front tyre and similar mocking levels of drive and grip from the rear. If I was going to stick my neck out, I'd say the feel from the front Michelin Power One Competition B compound felt a bit softer, a bit more communicative – maybe the carcass construction and sidewalls are a bit softer. In any case, I'd be happy racing on them.

The slicks? To be perfectly honest, riding them would have been a pleasure for me and a waste of time. A pleasure, because I can't exploit the full potential of the Power One Competition tyres and a waste of time because at the moment they only come in 16.5 inch sizes. So I opted for another session on the 17 inch treaded tyres...just to make sure that they really were as good as they seemed.

For trackdays and club racing, I can confidently suggest that these Michelin Power One Competition treaded tyres are worth a punt. And there were plenty of racers familiar with other brands who were equally as impressed. They are in dealers now. And don't forget that Power One webs (http://www.michelinpowerone.com/)
