My sump drain has buggered threads.

Anyone know anywhere I can get a helicoil done tomorrow?

Its off the bike so easy to transport.

Thanks,
Trev

I'd highly recommend a time-sert instead of a helicoil, but depending on location Rip might be closer and hey, he's an alright guy :)

Yep, these guys: http://www.metalockaustralia.com/contact.html

They use time-sert, IMO a far better alternative to helicoil

They'll charge about $40 or so

I done the same thing to my sump bolt a couple of weeks ago 2 nights before a track day! :cursing:

Rang Action Thread Repairs who wanted $210 to come out to Campbelltown and fix it, but said I could bring the bike over after work and he would do it for $50. I was after a helicoil, but he told me tapping it and putting a new bolt in would be just as good. Quality job and made sure it was 100%.

He is a rider himself, highly recommended. I forget his name but his phone number is 0414 847 323...

I done a dodgy and re used a washer and because it didn't crush I over tightened it causing the thread to end up on the bolt!

Because it's alloy it's obviously not the strongest.

Live and learn.

Sorry mate, meant no offence, just had to be said.

Have heard some horror stories where sump plug is so over tightenned that sump cracks, so I guess threading it isnt too bad, well.

No worries, wasn't me. previous owner was a tard.

Also why I just rebuilt 2nd gear.
Want to do the job right and plug all the leaks before the engine goes back in.

don't want a temp fix cos i'll have to drop the exhaust off and drop the oil again and the sump is already off.

EDIT: OOPS ITS HARTE, FORGOT I"M NOT USING MY COMPUTER.

You are best off going one thread size up.
Use WD & make sure you wind it in straight, it will re-tap quite easily & cost you nothing...
Done it plany of times before..:ayyy:

well the galston guy who coincidentally was in ryde at the time did a real nice job and I got it done super quick and the bikes 90% back together, running ok by the looks and no leaks. He said its a tap job due to the gap in the thread inside, and went up to a 15mm thread and spent a few min making sure he got it perfect.

very happy.

Ripp, I appreciated your offer... i'll shout ya a lambrusca at a meet sometime.

...and sorry guys for the wierdness when I accidentally posted as nutter a couple of times, he was a champ and the engine wouldn't be back in without him.
