I agree, Johnny. One thing that always gets me is quotes like, "resulting in a 23 per cent stiffness improvement compared with the old ones"
I remember reading an article by some university (I think it was in Germany) that used all of these quotes from a particular car manufacturer over the years, and calculated that their model from 10 years ago would have collapsed on itself if they were all to be believed! :lmao:

So it's got more rider satisfaction but less excitement eh... sounds like the 04 Blade then.. :D
Captain

I didn't think it sounded too bad. On it's own, it's probably a brilliant bike- unfortunately there's the shadow of the blade and the R1 over it .... not to mention the ZX10R, the 1198S, the KTM (and even the Aprilia and Beemer).

The frame is designed with its welded joints mostly not visible from the outside, purely so it looks better.

I wonder what the Suzuki engineers feel like when they read that their brand new bike is not only not as good as the competition but (still) not as good as the one they built in 2005!!! I mean, can you imagine the amount of money that went into R&D and they now have the "experts" tell them the K5 was better???
If I were the CEO I'd be pissed. I can tell you the much...
And what if one of the magazines (say... AMCN???) decides to add the K5 into their shootout just for good measure?? I'd be very keen to read the results on that one.

Funny because I've seen these SBK-style exhausts on some other bikes, and they can look really good. I don't quite recall where ... was it on the ZX10R maybe? (I know many don't like it, fair 'nuff).

No doubt you know your trade, but with the internet if they're online then I find them pretty quick. This was the first report that ever showed up on this bike ... and it wasn't in Australia.
Have you reviewed the bike yourself yet?
EDIT: Not sure if you were referring to the report (being late) or the bike itself ... I assumed the former in my reply :o

No I meant the bikes aren't available for us in Australia yet, so that makes our reviews later than the rest of the world too. Looking forward to testing it though. Have done the R1, as well as the ABS Hondas, and have the 1198, KTM RC8R coming up in the next couple of weeks.
I see them online straight away when they're up too cos most send us them offering to sell them to AMCN, but I was more wondering what the reporter/site that the full report and pics came from would think if he knew it was pasted with no credits or mention of them at all lol. Happens everywhere, I know, but I hear that the Americans are really cracking down on this lately.

So why ask where it came from publicly?
I will give due credit in the future, I'm just enjoying my time here with my fellow bike afficionados, but I don't want to offend any writer ... nor be sued for it.
I figured if it's online then it's there for everyone anyhow, and often there's no copyright on the story.
Tell ya what ... I'll pull it off.
Nah mate, doesn't bother me one bit what you copy and paste and I wasn't implying that you shoudl be sued or anything like that. There was no need to take it off just because of what I say - I find your stories that you post up interesting as you always find them no matter where they are (which I'm sure all RATs apreciate).
I was seriously just wondering who actually wrote that particular story cos I found it to be an interesting read. On the other hand, as a writer in the motorcycle media industry, I do know that the Americans are getting very touch on stories being copy/pasted on forums.
Here's Roadracingworld.com's info:
(This original, copyrighted material may not be copied, cut and pasted, published or otherwise reproduced in any way in any medium, which means, don’t post this on another website or BBS. If you want somebody else to see this, send them a link or post a link to this page.)
And just looked at Kevin Ash's website and he has a similar copyright marker:
Written content on this site is copyright Kevin Ash. Images are copyright of the credited photographers and are used with their permission. Feel free to link to this site, with quotes or teasers if you wish, but please do not steal from it. Copying entire features or images for your own site is theft - get in touch instead, maybe I can help.
They both point out that linking to their page is fine rather than c/p, but the ineteresting thing to me is that even though you can read the Ash story on his website right now, a very similar copy will be in Two Wheels or something next month. I do the same on my site, but can't have any story on there before it goes to print in magazines.

No worries, thanks for the info. Given that copyright warning, then it's probably still good that I removed it. In future I will link instead.
For the sake of discussion, am I right to assume that the copyright warning is directed at the rest of the media - those who profit from the stories (whether directly or though the sale of advertising space?). Do you think they'd worry about c/p stories appearing in forums ... as they often do?
Ash's articles are some of the best, he seems to go into details much more than most - that's the way Italian articles are normally written BTW (I read them too, usually more detailed than the rest). I wonder why that is? Do you lose the english reader if you write more than two pages?

No, the copyright is there because they have paid advertisements on their websites, so if you are copy and pasting an entire article on a forum rather than a link or preview then readers don't need to go to their site (or in some cases without mentioning who wrote it people don't even know) - essentially meaning they lose impressions on advertsing.
As far as the length and detail in stories, I basically write to a brief that I'm given so you'd have to ask AMCN why the lengths are what they are. A big thing with our mag is that we do a launch report and then a full road test and then the comparo all in seperate issues, so added together there is plenty of info. As for my website those stories are all AMCN stories on there at the moment so you can see the detail for yourself when I do the next few upcoming tests haha.
Anyway, back on topic. Here is the link to Ash's test in full for those who clicked in here looking for a test (feel free to add it to your first post in this topic).

So Alex, is it the next AMCN issue with the R1 test at EC?
Yeah mate, comes out on the first of April. But we've already had the launch report from the track with all the technical info, so this test that I'm doing is a real world road test to see what it's like to live with - for a few weeks anyhow lol.
We were just at the Creek for pictures and for an upcoming comparison between the R1 and the Blade with myself and Daryl Beattie testing.

Let's hope so! It usually depends what's on the cover on how well an issue will sell. Any new model sportsbike cover usually sells pretty well, or Rossi covers haha.

Alex doesn't want to lose friends so i'll tell you....NO COMPARISON........
Put the photos up we wanna see ha. R1 vs the Blade testing isn't done yet cos we haven't completed the road sector yet. At this stage I'll take the Yamaha engine in the Blade chassis, but for going fast on the track the Blade engine still has more up top. R1 torque is nice though. The R1 is sweet on the road so far though, just haven't had them back to back yet.

I have a good coach haha. Nah, the reason the R1 probably looked a bit looser and slower than the Blade was because it had Dunlop D210s on it and the Blade had the newer Dunlop Qualifier tyres. At AUStest all bikes will be on the same rubber.

Try the D210s then lol. What tyres do you like? I don't mind Qualifiers - not the best for the track but still a good all-round tyre.
