I had my eyes on the new black R1 with AKRAS and thought Id try my hand at asking for finance with Esanda by phone. two hrs later I get a sms saying "Your loan has been fully approved at 8.25%" Anyway feeling good i went to my local gym to take the kids for boxing. When I was there i bumped into a bike mate and told him the good news " Hey mate Im buying the new R1" he says "What colour?" I say "Black" He says "I got the black one its out fromt I rode it here" He then goes to the counter gives me the keys for a test ride knowing that theres no demos to our knowledge. I took it for a ride and it is Awesome couldnt help but blip the throttle every 5 seconds- sounds unbelievable So I got a black one with carbon Akras pick it up ether tommorrow or Monday. Hi Guys I bought it at BikeBiz from Troy and the Manager Christian who is a very fair bloke. They did a great deal with the AKRA carbon pipes. I practically sold my arse (again) for this bike after riding Theo's bike. Thanks again for all the great comments and Marcus for your kind words.:ayyy:

Somed up pretty nicely there.. It has generated more interest than any bike that I can remember has. The closest being the K5 suzuki, and that pipe, if not mistaken..
As for wanting one, Im already on too much a bike for me so no need, its too new with too many changes, that surely will need some ironing out with time. I'd like to see and hear reports by honest folk after theyve put on 25K kms on it, That will be the challenge I think..

:) If I wasn't old & sort of wise I would already have it in my garage because dealer I know has a black one (he had 3 first shipment has sold 2). I want a test ride just because I need to be able to ride it all day long & have been offered a all day test ride when Yam makes demo's aval which is in about 2 weeks. No Yam dealer at the moment has a demo because Yam hasn't supplied any yet as they just wanted them on show room floors while supers was on due to them show casing the new R1 & sponsoring the event. My other reservation is price & knowing buying the latest & greatest when it first is released isn't a wise move due to the japs will drop the price big time few months before the 2010 model is released & with winter coming soon I don't mind waiting to save a few 1000 which can pay for the exhaust which just seem to be sky rocketing in price. Recommended retail for the Akra with link pipe is close to $3K & when the bike only costs $20K that is a big price tag.

Do you have one for impatience causing lack of interest?
I was dead keen on the 09 R1 but can't be bothered traveling through traffic for a test ride at the NSW dealers that have been issued demo's. Even if I do the dealers that have them are on main roads in built up areas so the test ride for me will be next to pointless. I simply don't buy any bike without a test ride so have more or less run out of patience waiting for my local dealer to obtain a demo (which I find strange as there a sole Yamaha dealer).

Just had a scan of an article in pommy mag PB about the 09 R1. Compared to an '08 the 09 had about 5 bhp less at the top, more than that less in the mid but a few more bhp under 4.5k. They said the 09 felt less exciting, but was easier to ride fast.......wrt rider excitment / involving ride experience I hear the same in the press and from owners about the 08 - 09 blade. I hope it is only 'caused by euro 3 or whatever they are up to and can therefore be fixed. I know a mates 08 Busa was vastly improved with a full titanium 4 into 1. Flat throttle response became quite alive feeling, involving, entertaining even.
My own ride is up for 4yo and it would be nice to upgrade.
I've heard the 08 blade referred to as a sanitised K5 and the K9 is apparently now set up to suit race tuners and is probably not so special on the road now........frankly neither was the K7 - 8.
After over 30 years riding and owning nearly every brand out there its worth keeping in mind that in order for the industry as a whole to survive and in fact grow, by definition, ALL new product must make last weeks product useless rubbish. I kept telling that to one of the lads who was much slower on his 08 blade than he ever was on his K1.... I have no idea why, neither does he, but he just was. (the bike seemed just fine to me)

To cut a long story short I know the dealer he is a top bloke & tells me he has applied for one & is waiting. Because I tend to voice my opinion I sent off a email to Yamaha who did reply promptly but told me my local dealer hasn't applied for a demo R1 & listed the dealers that have demo's. Funny the dealers that have demo's are very large but are multi brand dealers & both out west. I'm not going to speculate on Yamaha politics but I believe my dealer before a company as he has no reason to bullshit as would like to sell me a bike sooner not later. Yamaha didn't supply any dealers before supers with demo's as just wanted them on the shop floors but on saying that Yamaha only pays for rego/insurance on the demo the dealer still buys the bike. Just shows you how much factories are tightening there belts but in this case it is a fool hardy decision when allot of people wont buy a bike without a test ride as it is a sales tool. The dealer I want to buy off has 4 people all older blokes like myself waiting for a test ride with the likely hood of buying & we want to buy from our local dealer because we know & trust him (we all have Honda's at the moment because dealer we trust sold them to us when he was a Honda dealer).

As for stock well the grape vine tells me Yamaha might be closing there factory for a few weeks due to over supply, not enough sales, that is there complete range.

On the improvement side the spk is the new R1 is easier to ride fast but the old model is more of a thrill, the K9 is a dog & the K8 was a much better bike, the CBR1000RR is still a weapon but leave the ABS for your cage, the 09 Kawa is still a thrill weapon you just have to pay extra to make it handle as good as all the others in stock form.

Roy, you probably have better info than me, I'd be real happy going green then........I don't use dealers except to go and pick the bike up from day one, so have no care about brand. However, I think the 09 kawa 600 is the best finished UJM I've ever seen. Have a close look sometime, nice quality cap head screws everywhere, etc Even a little cage for the rear brake master cyl.
(not that i'd be going for a 600, a 750, maybe)

kawa build quality in my view has surpassed the old bench mark Honda, there mechanical finish is second to none & it should be as kawa heavy industries make some major stuff.

The new 600 is very nice & goes like stink from what I here.

So its not just me that noticed, btw the 08 kawa 600 is nowhere as good as the 09. Its like someone at KHI just decided to go for it quality wise. I hope the next ZX10 is in the same league. I like a bit of mongrel in my bike and a bit of pride in its finnish would be icing on the cake.

I've test-ridden bikes at bikebiz, and I was thinking about this when you posted up the names of the delers with the bikes. It's basically around the block (or near enough to it).
