View Full Version : In doubt for the Barry Sheene
sbutler

After all the time in the off season to prepair the bike, I might not make it anyway. The first round of the Championship has come & gone,[Wakefield last weekend] next is the Barry Sheene festival of speed over the Easter weekend.
It sort of went pair shaped when we got working on the front forks. After much discussion we decided to go for new racetech springs, that was all good, but when we tried to do some mods, we found the forks to be bent. To the eye you couldnt see anything. But when we spun them in the laith[spelling] both were bent, to the rear & one was also bent to one side :dohsmiley:
So they are off at Laurie's getting straightend.
In the mean time Ive been getting the moulds done for the raceglass, they are pretty much done, so I can get them off to John Allman at Mototech for painting, this week[with any luck]. So while it doesn't sound like a big deal, it is.
All the planets have lined up execpt for the money planet!! I need to stand on one foot facing the east chanting to the money gods for help. Yes Ive run out of money. So my assult on this years championship is pretty much gone. Im busting a gut to get there but its looking shaky! Im giving it my best shot but if I cant do it, I'll try for the next meeting. With any luck I should make that one.
I suppose I need a sponsor, but who's gonna sponsor a 51 year old dood, on a 17 year old bike? I doubt thats gonna happen:confused1: Im about $1000 away form running the years racing. But it may as well be a $1000000! I just cant fine any more on the money tree. So if anyone knows of a fast way to make a $1000 let me know!!!!
I will only be able to race when I have the cash to pay the costs. Like many other racers:(
But anyway, I'll still keep everyone up to date when we do get to the meetings, with some race reports & pics.
some pics of were Im up to.:(:(:(

Mmmm, so the busa brackets fit behind the frame as per the mounting points. Thats the area we had trouble with, the bracket i made bent when i used the pegs as i should.. It was all tig welded together (PS dad drilled the holes)

after a bit of mod they fit.
the effort was way worth the reward.

yeah mate, forks & shock have been done by terry. Come up & say hello ZXRider. My buddy doesnt think he's fast enough to cut in racing, so he will probably do a couple of track days to get up to speed.
Im trying to make the Rats day on the 31st, if I have it all done I'll bring him along so he can get some more laps under his belt. He still a bit gun shy when it comes to passing slower riders. But once he learns a little race craft he'll be fine. I'm hoping to get him to the next PCRA meeting at Oran pk.

That's in R1 territory, shortend the wheel base by about 15mm & while we were at it we checked the front & rear ballance.

Nar, not for those with EXUP in place, the scrutineers are worried about it filling with oil & turning into a BBQ!! I can see their point.
Plus there is no way of getting one to fit. But its mostly the safety factor they are worried about. If you remove the belly, you dont have to run a catch pan:dohsmiley: How crazy is that???
See how big it would have to be? You have no ground clearance>>>

Yeah, completely different fairing would explain that. Johns is a 87/88 model I think.
I have had a look at doing it, but it is a lot of work. My model is only 3 peice. 2 sides & an upper. You cant remove just the belly, & leave the sides.
If you want to run in St George days, eg Rjays series etc. I would have to remove the sides.
Thats why the rule is so silly.
If you run a belly you need a pan.
If you dont run a belly you dont need a pan. :hatter: It just crazy IMO:rules:
If you have a look on the PCRA site there is a zillion posts about that rule.

I suppose I could go for a full system. But the torque that thing produces if massive, & it not lacking in the HP department either, and thats how I like it. So I figure [if it aint broke, dont fix it] If I fluff a corner, It will just pull you up to speed without fuss. Im a lazy old coot & i'd rather let the torque/bike do the work, & i'll just sit there.. If you see what Im getting at?:lmao:

If they are running fairings yes they must have a catch pan.
Its just a really strange rule. If you run a naked bike, you dont have to run a catch pan. So if the motor blows you can spew onto the track.:hatter:
But if you run a fairing, you have to fun a catch pan? So if the motor blows it catchers the oil.
So my reading is>
Its ok to spew oil on the track as long as you havent got a fairing???:dohsmiley:
But if you run a fairing, Dont you drop any oil or you busted!:hatter:
Yeah it is a strange rule, but i guess from MA point is if they can contain it within the confines of a fairing then why not as it will save a heap of hassells.. Not much you can do if it is a naked though, as you need to keep the bike as OEM as possible to be eligible to race..
WET4URacing
08-04-2009, 10:53 AM
naked bikes wear belly pans in FX. the bennelli that won last year had 1. even back when i raced my ZRX the other 1 on the grid had 1 on. i didnt but i should have i spose.
jasonbw
08-04-2009, 11:18 AM
So in full enclosed bellypans's do you normally make a catch pan (lasagne tray size) or allow the oil/liquid to slosh around the full length? the rules only say it has to hold a certain amount of liquid, I'm wondering if I should "dam" both ends or make a "tray" or leave it as is..
WET4URacing
08-04-2009, 11:20 AM
you are dammed both ends. your fairing is legal . spost to hold 3 litres of fluid.

Well Im as ready as Im ever gonna be just getting loaded up now. Heading down tomorrow. I took the bike out for a 8km run today & its was great. All that lees weight you can feel its better. Plus the geometey[spelling] changes. I has a light more sensitive feel about it. The suspsnsion is so not a road bike now. It was bloody harsh & even got a little head shake when I hit some bumps mid corner.[Never did that before] So I think It'll have the steering damper on all the time now. It was gonna give it a run without it to see what happens. But Ive scrapped that idea.
Wish me luck guys, there's no turning back now!!
