Hi everyone,

I've been discussing with Greg(Nutter) about getting a new front tyre and he's mentioned a few that were dual or tri compound rubber.

I can't find much information on tyres that are able to handle roads regularly without squaring off very quickly and also have nice grippy edges for the twisties, so if anyone can throw in the names of dual/tri compound tyres, etc that'd be awesome.

I rekon it'd be good to have a thread with details such as price, expected kms and grip ratings, etc so tyres can be compared more easily than:
n00b: Is XXX tyre any good?
Lurker: My mate says they're good.
/Thread.

Cheers,
Trev

From the top of my head:
Pilot Power 2CT - 2 compounds;
Bridgestone BT016 - 2 compounds (3 on the rear tire).

Thx Mr Ed.
will be interesting to see if Tri-compound only really applies to rears.

These are dual compound from what I've found:
Bridgestone BT-021
Michelin Pilot Road 2
Pirelli Diablo Corsa III
Metzeler Sportec M3

I'm assuming that Dunlop will have an offering too.

Have heard that the Pilot Road or BT-021 will wear a bit longer on the road, but also that the Metzler are pretty good value.
Hopefully I can get some more info to bulk out that list, but its a good start.

I already knew the PR2 was more street than the others, hence the name.
So BT-016 is more street spec than the BT-021?
I suppose the extra rear compound on the BT-016 is designed for longer life, but haven't been able to confirm the other compounds properly yet

Define street spec does it mean sport riding or touring
http://mc.bridgestone.co.jp/en/products/battlax/bt016.html a break down of the BT016
Here is a list from Bridgestone

I meant 'harder' really. Makes sense now that the BT-012 lasts longer if it is more touring oriented.

Will be interesting to hear whether the PR2 is touring biased or whether its still more sport like the BT-016. Also where the PP2CT may be more equivalent or perhaps more supersport as the Bridgestone scale goes.

dunlop 209gp racer rear is dual compound.

Make friends with a racer and get the dunlop 209's second hand for usually $150-200 a set.

I have had excellent mileage on these tyres, up to 8000k front and 4000k rear. Depends on the riding, but the worst was 2500k and 2 trackdays. Rear tyre. Even if you only get 2500k out of each set, it's still cheaper to buy 3 sets used than 1 new. I usually wear out 2 rears to 1 front and they grip awesome.
