Suzuki has been taking backward steps in styling ever since the mighty K5:dohsmiley:

Those exhausts look like Micron cans. A member of another forum said they reminded him of a whale's dick and I haven't been able to look at them the same since......

But it has a gear indicator ... that's enough to excite me :)

Any word on the specs? It's up against some punchy contenders this year, it will need something pretty special to hold its' own.

Mr.Ed

Haven't heard anything special about the gixxer... either it isn't or its marketing department needs to learn to pull its weight!

Much shorter engine, longer swingarm + shorter wheelbase, less weight, more power + torque, Big Piston forks, monobloc brakes.

sounds good. if it's gets any smaller, it will do away with the 600.

I'm going to buck the trend and say mondieu! those zorsts are not bitchin! Apart from that and the headlights, nice bike. Cockpit looks particularly cool.

Funny how exhaust fashion changes. Over generalising here, and with exceptions, but all the Jap bikes used to have 4 into 1s exiting out the left side. Then, it all went underseat exit - R1/CBR/ZX6 style... now the fashion seems to be stubby R6/Fireblade GP style. Just an observation...

And why is the ignition key over there?

13-02-2009, 04:04 PM
what i thought would look goood if you have a under seat exhurst take out the blinkers and make the pipes exit there each side of the tail light the exit the same size as it is now( for the blinkers) proberly cant be done with heat and other problems.... have a look at the side to the rear pic and think the silver under seat pannel is the muffler just a thought as the tail light section loooks good . dash looks good to but in a grey to white back ground bit too red for me like to see some spec' too has it got hi and low comp ,rebound ajustments which seen to be comming more common on new bikes

Mr.Ed
13-02-2009, 04:12 PM
And why is the ignition key over there?

You mean "FINALLY!" right? It's obviously Suzuki's answer to the thousands of angry emails all the manufacturers received over the years from the less than impressed youtube viewers... even the cops were complaining about the key chains wobbling and blocking the speedo when some idio... I mean, skilled rider is recording their new eviden... I mean, video!:lmao:

If the end cans had a 'micron' badge on them, would they look better?

The recent swing by all manufacturers to come up with the gold for the fugly pipes, is actually to meet stringent polution laws in US, so they are only complying with laws. How many actually keep stock pipes anyway ( bar me :p) ? .

The GSXR fold bears no grudges Johnny. You'll get a very nice trade in on that R1 of yours..

A new one piece die cast aluminum alloy rear subframe and tailsection support is now lighter and seat height is unchanged at 810mm. New Showa BPF (Big Piston Front) 43mm fork design eliminates the internal cartridge assembly inserted into each fork leg and instead uses a single 39.6mm upper piston riding against the inside wall of the inner fork tube. The larger piston and shims used in the BPF forks produce more effective valving, with more controlled compression delivering better feedback to the rider.

The BPF design relocates the fork springs to the bottom of each fork leg, where they are completely submerged in oil, reducing fork oil foaming and contributing to more stable damping. The rebound and compression valving adjustment screws are indented into the fork caps. Spring preload is adjusted at the bottom of the fork leg assembly. Each BPF fork leg is also 720 grams lighter than the conventional fork tube it replaces.

Was just going to say ( before you posted that last one), there is adjustments at the base of the fork still, so the spring preload has moved to bottom, while rebound and compression are side by side at top of fork. Now why werent they always like this ?

Wont be given up my R1 mate, its more bike than I can ever ride, and I dont see a point in upgrading when its me who holds it back.

Suzuki GSX-R1000 K9 - first impressions

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/upload/220885/images/2009-gsx-r1000-guintoli-nee.jpg

MCN’s Senior Road Tester Michael Neeves is currently testing the new Suzuki GSX-R1000 K9 at the twisty, Almeria circuit in southern Spain. Here are his thoughts after this morning’s first track session.

"Despite the most radical engine redesign in the GSX-R1000's history, this is still undeniably a GSX-R – it has the same evil growl when you blip the throttle and the same riding position (where you sit down low in the bike).

"Character wise it's like an evolution of the K7 model rather than having the spirit of the old, lightweight K5.

"There's masses of power all the way through the rev range and the throttle response is excellent and you're never left wanting for more power even if you take a corner a gear taller than you think you should.

"Ground clearance is very good, the brakes have loads of power and don't fade, and the Big Piston Forks give an odd feeling which I’ll need to get used to during the course of the day.

"These forks offer quite a lot of resistance going into the corner which makes the bike feel too stiff at first. It gives the initial impression that the bike is heavy and slow to steer but I know through speaking to fellow road tester, Adam Child, when he road the ZX-6R, which has the same forks, at it’s launch that the harder you ride the better they feel. So we'll see how that goes throughout the course of the day.

"Overall the K9 is noticeably more agile than its predecessor although Suzuki haven’t given it any more power, it doesn’t need it, whether it will be top dog in our forthcoming 1000s test we’ll have to wait and see – Suzuki has high hopes it will topple the new R1 and the mighty FireBlade in 2009. It’s also been built to win the WSB and BSB championships.

"The GSX-R1000 K9 is 5kg lighter and more powerful than the old K7/K8 model. It also has a shorter engine and longer swingarm to help the rear tyre fight for grip, while still retaining the same overall 2045mm length. The wheelbase is down by 10mm to for greater agility.

"With its most radical engine redesign in the GSX-R1000’s history, the motor gets a shorter stroke. This also gives race teams the scope for tuning and raising revs safely. It still has the longest stroke of any of the Japanese 1000s, though, and a long stroke equals grunt."

This is what i was going to say :ayyy:. I think they take there inspirations from cars. The bigger the exhausts the louder it is.

Another great bike for 09, although it sounds like it'll be between the Blade and the R1 this year.

Ps:On the first (big) pic it seems that it comes w/titanium headers but then on the stripped one it all looks like it's always has been...

Titanium only blues once heated right up. Un-used titanium headers will just look like normal steel ones.

I think it looks OK but when I went to Bikebiz two days ago to listen to the new R1 2009 with Akras I barred up and it was all over. The rear end of the R1 could look better but the rest is nice once you get used to it - sounds like a V4. I read somewhere that they use the plastic from OAK ice cream containers to make the GIXXER fairings - What say you oh mighty Turtle and Johnny??:ayyy:
