I came across this today on the teammoto site.
Vermeulen in seventh heaven
The provisional entry list for MotoGP in 2009 has been released by the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and it shows that both Suzuki MotoGP racers Chris Vermeulen and Loris Capirossi will continue to use their distinctive race numbers for the next season.
Vermeulen will have the number seven on his Suzuki GSV-R for 2009, the second season that the Australian star has raced with the figure made famous by Suzuki legend – and Vermeulen’s mentor – Barry Sheene. Capirossi will continue to use his favoured 65, a number that was on his bike when he won his first World Championship in 1990.
The main changes for the 2009 MotoGP season will see 2007 World Champion Casey Stoner revert back to his previous number 27, Dani Pedrosa changes to number three and Jorge Lorenzo swaps to the number 99. There will also be three new riders and one returning rider on the grid with Mika Kallio and Yuki Takahashi moving up from the 250cc class, Niccolo Canepa joins the MotoGP paddock from Ducati’s test team and former Suzuki rider Sete Gibernau returns to the premier-class after a two-year absence.
Suzuki MotoGP will be in action early in 2009 as it begins testing in readiness for Capirossi and Vermeulen to begin their assaults on the MotoGP World Championship, which is provisionally scheduled to start with an evening race at Doha in Qatar on Sunday 12th April.
The full provisional list is as follows:
