Hi guys me and my mate Andy are booked for the WP trackday on the 8th of December and I was after setup info on his bike its an 05 Gixxer 1000.
I took his bike for a run up the putty yesterday as he doesnt get his licence back for a couple of weeks and it needed a run to charge the battery and scrub in the tyres.

Im 6-5" and 100kg and to be honest the fugger is setup so hard it feels like a buckboard over bumps. On the gas hard out of bumpy corners she would shake her head BAD an jar over every bump, fuck if I rode over a coin I coulda told you what it was.

It didnt tank slap but gave a few good hard hits on the bars over the bumps in corners scared the shid outa me the first time it happened, mind you I'm used to the soft silky plush suspension of the mighty busa so maybe I'm expecting too much from a shitbox like the gixxa:)

Seriuosly can anyone give me a guide to trackday suspension setup on this bike the stock settings are crap.

if he rides slow, suspension set up wont affect him too much, but it does help to be a bit softer than the current setup, as for set up at WP? no idea, il be there flying blind aswell, it will be an interesting day. see ya there!!!

Come see me at WP & we will set up the sag settings ball park & hyd as the day goes on you can then adjust hyd to find what suits you best. There is noway anybody can help you over the net without knowing what the sag etc settings are now.

Sportrider's suggested suspension settings; I know it's not precise, as it doesn't account for your weight, your riding style and tyres ... and of course it won't be as good as having it custom adjusted. But if the settings have been fiddled with and are all over the shop then it could be a useful starting point.

Front Preload: 4 lines showing
Front rebound damping: 1 click out from full stiff
Front comp damping: 13 clicks out from full stiff

Rear preload:14mm thread showing
Rear rebound damping:8 clicks out from full stiff
Rear comp damping: 13 clicks out from full stiff

note: set fork tube height to 8mm showing above triple clamp

That is all well & good but no mention of rider weight which is the main effect on suspension, front rebound 1 click from full hard is way over kill & your forks will return slower than men returning home from the strip club.

Mybe these suggested settings are not so hot. Zeno has explained to me that they do need to be set up individually, but like I said I only suggested IF they were all over the joint, as surely they must be better than nothing.

But from what zRoYz is saying maybe even that's not the case. You gotta wonder why they would be suggesting these settings then? The pox on them :cursing:

One other thing. put a zip tie on the front fork. it should show 2/3 to 3/4 down the slide after a decient run. my mate has a k5 and weighs in at 70 kgs but has maxed out his settings doing 1.10. check the wear pattern on the rear, if the tread is lipping it means a rebound ajustment is needed. As its a hard breaking circut a little more compression might be needed but as the zroyz said its a do on the day thing. see ya there

Ive got 2 lines showing on front preload, sportrider says 4 (standard) but I was almost bottoming out at that.

I'd list my settings, but it's more of a work-in-progress.
