hey guys (and gals)...
just went to change my pads, and noticed that one side was screwed while the other side is looking great (front wheel)... then i noticed that one of my discs (the one with the chewed out pads) doesn't float anymore...
looking for some wisdom as to, could this be the reason they're screwed on that side...?
and, is it possible to get it 'unstuck'?
i haven't had the bike long enough to have changed the pads before now... so i don't know if they were put on at the same time... or if the dude before me got into a routine of changing one side at a time...
any help greatly appreciated...
Duane...

What bike are we talking about.... I'd say (well guess without more info) that the caliper has issues... either a jammed piston (of dual piston caliper)... or jammed pins on a single sided piston caliper (not allowing the caliper to self align)..

Need to know what bike it is.
Most Jappers have a semi floating disc which means its not loose when cold. Maybe the other disc is loose (worn) and the tight one has a stiff caliper which is wearing the pads

Sounds like the calliper not the disc to me.

sorry guys, thanks for the replies...
it's a '91 gixxer 750...
the other disc 'floats' (read: i can wiggle it), but this side, with or without the caliper on, there's no movement at all...
:confused1:
thanks again, keep em comin'... :ayyy:

Its screwed. Brake pads gone on that side is proof enough, if the pulsing/vibrations from braking wasnt..

seems fine when braking though... no pulsing, no vibration...
granted, i don't do anything with it but commute (and the occasional cruise with the wife on the back)...
but it seems to brake fine...

Well if it is stuck, and pads on that side are gone, it saids that it is stuck in a not so even pattern, ie, like what a warped disc would do, pulse/vibrate under hard braking and wear out pads quicker.
Its the rivets holding disc onto rotor which is the problem, and although can be pressed with machines ( yours are jammed though), its better to look at it as a throw away item, Ebay is your friend !
Could be wrong though, wouldnt be the first, and Im sure as hell it wont be the last :lmao:

Get the front wheel off the ground and see how easily it spins, then pry back the pads a bit with a screwdriver and see if it spins more freely. The piston rings in your calipers would be screwed if this is the case. Also, with the pads pushed back, you can check the movement of your disc without the pads putting any pressure on it.

Front stands are your friend.....especially if they're off ebay!
