Skill v's Knowledge, how much of these reflects in lap times ?
Lap times,, do they decrease with knowledge of the track, or skill ?
If knowledge means skill, then surely, someone who has been to a certain track more times than another, would be more skilled and laptimes would show it, yes ? So, where and how does skill come into it ?? Skill without knowledge ? does that even exist ?
Laptimes, bragging rights on knowledge of track, or, skill ??
same for road riding too if you want to answer with that, someone who knows a particular road better than someone else, is quicker and smoother.
So what is skill ??
Thoughts.

good point johnny. i think skill can exist without experience. look at the racers who a quick on a track which they've come to for the first time...
for the rest of us, certainly experience makes up for a lack of skill.

I think its the skill to adapt to a new track or road. Some people pick up new things quicker than others.
So 2 similar riders in skill level both on a new track one could adapt to the new track sooner than the other.
On the other hand some people just have a shit load of skill i.e anyone getting paid as a living to race bikes. Like if u bought VR to Eastencreek compared to someone who knows the track inside out... skill over powers knowledge
Skill is a talent
Knowledge is a understanding
my thoughts are ........
it depends .....
knowlege of the track dosnt really men shit unless you have ridden it which would be the skill part i spose
reading books and stuff on say spraypainting dosnt mean you can go and paint a car
so you would have all the knowlege but no skill
but i think skill would beat knowlege hands down
rossi or stoner would tear us new arses with no knowlege of said track purley with skill
skill i think is the practical part ,knowlege is the theory
thanks johnny now ive got a sore head :hatter::confused1:

:lmao: good to think now and then mate, and your responce shows your answer was well thought out, as with all others.. Nice guys :ayyy:
edit.. Racers, yes, they will tear us a new arse, and go fast on a new track, but, they dont get them laptimes down immediately, they do testing after testing, warm up laps, etc ( Rossi plays them for days on playstation, or watches footage and the like prior to all the testing etc), and the more they do the track, the more the times comes down. Home town advantage of them also states knowledge to be the major factor..So, discussion still open :p .

St Kurt got it. You can have skill without experience, Knoweldge however, does't come that easily.

I believe it really depends on just how much knowledge and how much experience we're talking about. Mathematically it's probably something like:
Av lap speed = Skills squared + Knowledge
We can see that if you have little skill, then track knowledge will mean a lot, but as your skill improves it has much more of an effect than track knowledge (exponentially so). Hence no matter how well I know EC, Rossi will end up with a much faster average lap speed as he has much more skills.
Lap times are inversely proportional to the Av lap speed ...

You suck at Maths Cappy :lmao:
Skill = knowledge + set up - fear - care

Alas skill is not as simple to acquire as knowledge: the learner has to perform the skill badly, recover from mistakes, do it a bit better, and keep repeating the whole process.
Basing this theory on the track can be painful and expensive !!!!!!

Skill = knowledge + set up - fear - care

skill= knowlege + setup + fear + care + large nuts + stickers
Easy answer really.
Skill (similar to hand-eye co-ordination, fine motor skills, etc) presupposes the cerebellum is conditioned and requires repetition to improve and strengthen.
Knowledge is a function mostly indicative of the pre-frontal cortex and you can store information there, but usually, without repetition and practice, the cerebellum won't improve.
Oh, and some people's cerebellums are better than others intrinsically.

OMG...............Im trying not to.............but I have to say something .........
Im speaking/typing this ONLY on my behalf !!!!
Woman naturally ( I believe) Dont have skills !!!
We only gather knowledge thanks to boys supporting us riding..........
I can only speak for my self, plus few honest comments from g/f, its so bloody hard........
I noticed, what took me 3 years of, learning, testing, experiencing...............
most of the boys get in first 6 months of riding:confused1:
Im sorry, don't want to offend any girls here......... I've done some extreme speeds and some chicken riding in my life............. and Im telling you its something from inside , its not a knowledge:(
