View Full Version : The Best Road In Sydney ???

VINNIE

My call would be Wiesmans Ferry & Cattai Roads ( between Old Northern Road and Windsor Road ).The road surface is in relative good condition with at least 8k's recently done in hot mix.The blend of sweeping on camber corners, some tight twisties to keep you on your toes and short straights over the 28.7k's gives the bike and rider a taste of everything that road riding is about.

Whats your call????

Yep, no doubt, that is the best road to ride a bike on for sure in Sydney. That section North to South , 6K`s north of the golf course to just past the golf course is just about the best anywhere! I love it. Only better place is Colo, Is Colo considered part of Sydney, I think not.

Havent done that road in full for a long time (did part of it a few weeks ago, from old northern to cliftonville rd), love those 2 bends as you climb after a fairly flat, straight stretch. Coming from Windsor rd, it's a 90 degree right hander then a sort of double apex left, my faves...

Not to keen on Wisemans, for the simple fact that Cruiser rider groups are keen on it, dont think I have ever once did it and not have one of them bohemeth riders in my path. Other than that, agreed, great ride.

Old rd is great too, but WAY overpoliced, wouldnt be suprised if road warriors re-incarnates as a donut shop..

Other great local rds.

Commenarro/Yanko Rds.
Mc Carrs creek rd then all the way to Palm beach.
Many other little ones around, but are far too residentual ;)

Probably right Vinnie. There's really not that much IN Sydney .... I'm thinking McCarrs Creek Rd leading onto Pittwater Rd between Terrey Hills and Bayview. Plus there are a few marinas where to get a good coffee and a meal .... and have a walk amongst the boats (if you like that).

This section of Springwood Rd is awesome, fantastic surface, decent vision on most corners and a lookout at the top to cool the brakes before going back down again :ayyy: :lmao:

Megalong Rd, this one is great but a bit far out (although still considered to be "Greater Sydney"), it's a good surface running down into the valley itself then along the bottom following the river :D. If you've got a better sense of direction than me you can even do the full loop up the other side of the valley.

(It's the faint white one hidden in there)

They're my favourites anyway, mostly because it's just me and some sparse local traffic out there (and anyone I choose to take along with me of course :ayyy:)

Hmm, I thought this one was about Sydney roads - like closer to 2000! ;) So, am gonna recall how much I used to enjoy Page st onto Stephen Rd, the section going south off Wentworth Ave - was always a great place to check front wheel grip over the potholes mid-corner, and look for rear traction on the off camber turns.... Luckily, I go nowhere near there anymore PC Plod (if u read this)!

...and I'd have to have the run out to the lighthouse from Rose Bay too...

The BBQ is before that stretch of rd coming down to Wisemans from the North side. But no doubt you will do it on the way home, that's for sure.

For a quick blast I can't beat Commenarro/Yanko Rds, since it's couple of minutes from my work. And it's in the city, it just has to be done in early morning hours before it's full of traffic.

Hey looks like i need to get out more i dont know half these areas, i have done Putty run before but that was ages ago. i used to love the run up past road worriors where they have cut it off due to that bridge collaps. especially after they fixed the corners up.
looks like i better get a road map out one weekend.

I can't believe no on has mentioned the National Park. If I was going to a pick a road "in Sydney" that would have to be it.

Hey Vinnie there are some other fun roads between (that you probably no of) between there and Anangrove road. Even Cattai Ridge road is a bit of fun.

Cattai Ridge rd is semi fun, road surface leaves a lot to be desired though....

Mitchell Pass at Glenbrook is good value too. Only short but do the loop up Old Bathust Rd and back down he Pass makes it worth while.

I really tried to think of something but keep drawing blanks.

Decent riding roads (not road conditions) are all outside of the Sydney area.
