View Full Version : Help please!
Hello To All
I know it`s Monday morning but I need help!!!
After spending yesterday in Sydney rain servicing my bike I have sadly realized it`s about time I
end the relationship I have had for the last 5 years with my beloved Gixxer, I know its always hard to move on!!!
I`m after a young fresh Italian blooded "BEAST" to monster, as I just got married and I will be having kids over the next
couple years so I need to get the bike now or I will have no chance spending the big $$$$ on a bike for many years.
Now down to business. MV f4 1000r or 1000s or Ducati 998 or 1098
I need feedback from the pits/motors/ handling/ suspension/ braking + on track performance + on road from the owners of
these bikes and anyone who has worked on them. The bike will do a track day every couple of months a solid road ride once
a week and down to the Super bikes or GP next year so it needs to be quick safe and reliable.
I will own this bike for at least the next 7 to 10 years, It will have to be a second hand bike and I don't want to be putting
my hand in my pocket paying for repairs and expensive new parts every 5000k`s but most important I want the right bike
for the track and the road!!!!
The MV and the Ducati feels amazing on the open road but have never had the opportunity to ride one of these
on the track, not yet anyway!! So please send me any information you can or a contact to talk to.
I have always been heading towards the Duc but I have been reading about the MV and after a test ride really
had respect for this machine.
Cheers to all in advance

Coming from a Ducati owner if u want bang for your buck and look at keeping the bike for the period of time mentioned, you will want a Jap bike no questions asked 1098 is a great bike but will need regular servicing at $1k each time same as the MV think of what you have spent on your gixxer over the 5 years then triple it if u want a Italian bike.

If there the 2 bikes on your list the 1098 is the better choice in my veiw because:
1. You wish to ride the bike for more than a few hours without back pain, the MV is fun to ride for about that long.
2. Parts aval the MV has always been a problem & don't listen to the dealer they say it's not so you buy but then when something other than an oil filter is needed wait wait & more waiting (this might get better since Harley bought them but the problem is the limited numbers they sell).
3. Resale the 1098 will sell the MV will sit around for along time due to very limited market (dealer near me had a 05 trade in & still had it in 08).

Check out the owners' forums (ducatispot.com and mvagusta.net) where you'll get a more realistic appraisal from the owners of these bikes. Their advice is plentiful and, more importantly, far more relevant to your needs.

mate your in dream land.. got 11k on my 1098(just done 12k service due to time factor)..including my first service + this one, so far i have amassed a massive $700approx service bill.. which is pretty much on par with how much my cbr cost upto this stage of its life...if your getting charged that much for your 848 servicing your getting ripped..
===========================================
as for which bike.. i was in the same mind as you choosing between MV & Duck..love MV(still reckon best looking bike) but the duck won because it was newer, had been advertised as 50% off previous(999) ducati servicing cost, new parts & bling were readily available and it was really the only v twin sports bike around(i never had a twin)..
anyway have fun..its a good dilemma youve got:mod_smilie_rockwoot.. heres a tatic:n:.. take your miss's with ya and choose the opposite to what she likes..i done that with the 1098 and evrytime she sees a MV she says you should of got that.. so convincing her of another purchase down the track shouldnt be too hard:lmao::ayyy:

Given that you're newly married, kids coming soon etc and costs are an issue, you don't seem to be taking into account the purchase price (the extra $10,000ish is quite a bit, let alone the servicing cost). You also mention reliability; I don't care to get into another argument with the ducati owners but if it's reliability you're after then a jap bike is the way to go.
If you're still keen on the 1098, then I'd wait for the 1198 to come out.

Sorry for the slightly Off Topic question but I love the Street Triple, would love to get one as my first upgrade but heard they have reliability issues... does anyone know the truth to that?
Johnny

Dont know about any reliability issue, But I saw one snap into three peices at turn 2 :lmao: back wheel was allright though, not much left of the rest unfortunetly..
I've seen the bike Johnny mentioned and it didn't look pretty (saying that as a triumph owner). I would stay away from the single sided swingarm triumph and stick to street triple or 675. Be warned few had blown engines. I'm on my 2nd one and the only issue with the bike is the rider so far :lmao:

I paid just over $600 for a 12k service on my 1098,
i wouldn't get one to comute on everday but for a toy its bloody tops.
The servicing on my old 748 was pretty exy though, so maybe think hard about the 998,plus they are getting a few years old, but if you want that shape the 998 is the way to go, tith the gun tesstaratta engine.
go the 1098, if buying second hand all will have the balance of warrenty to about feb 09 i think, from all acounts you hear good feed back from them and are a blast to ride:ayyy:

so you just eat chinnese instead then?:lmao:
dont the 1098s have a better and cheaper service schedues than previous ducks?
Hello and a happy new year to all!!!
Thanks to all for their feed back on from my thread, I did take it all into consideration and I am happy to say it all did help.
After all the negative talk lately about those bloody Euro bikes and Jap this euro that I went with the heart and fucking got what I wanted. Picked up a 03 998 yesterday and I can tell you it was hand made by Satan and is what a motorcycle should be -mean as hell!!
Now who can give me some advise how to best keep my machine mine and give me some ideas how I can best lock it up in my garage. I was thinking some chains, bolts, alarms, GPS tracking system, steel bracket that goes into the ground and locks over the seat not sure what the best method would be and where I can find them.
I could always just keep the pitbull chained to it!!!
Thanks for your help see you in 09 at EC.

I'd say go for a second hand Jap 1000. I have ridden the 1098s (good friend has one) and they are awsom and i'm sure the aprillia V4 will be un believable but as your looking for second hand the aprillia is a no go and the 1098's are still quite expensive (and rare) second hand where as you can pick up a 1 or 2 yr old 1000 for very cheep.
I just got a 2007 gsxr750 for $12000 about 5 months ago with only 3000km on it. Basically a brand new bike but a huge saving. I'm sure you could get a k7 1000 anything for about $14000 with low km's and you will be saving a bucket, have something really reliable and cheap to service plus looks new and modern.
dont get me wrong, if i had the bucks to throw around i'm go for a nice piece of italian exotica but not second hand and prob now when you can get something justa as good for less than hald the price

It's simple.
You buy the MOST expensive bike you can afford that will also give you the highest resale $$$.
That way when your wife tells you to sell the bike to pay for a new bathroom (don't think this won't happen) you will be able to sell it, give her 5k for the reno's and go and buy yourself 2 cheap jap bikes. :ayyy:
She is happy because you have sold YOUR prid and joy to give her what she wants so you get some brownie points for that and you now have 2 bikes.
Everyones a winner!
