Along with suspension (and god knows how much else), tyres are one of the components that can really effect the performance of our bikes ... as we can see by the motoGP results, and zRoYz's recent experience at Pillip Island.

I went looking for information, and found something pretty basic - but then again I was suprised how little I knew about tyres. So I thought I'd post this up, should anyone else be interested. Hopefully we can add to this.

(I know that some people get lost on the complexity of the engineering, and others simply couldn't be bothered. That's fair enough, it all depends on what you want from motorcycling.
However, I have noticed a pattern amongst racers, coaches and riders - one that needs further study, for sure - that shows a significant difference between those that really understand how a bike works and those who don't. Recently I met a few racers who have performed well, but didn't quite get to the top and whilst the reasons are probably complex, the one thing that they had in common was a lack of interest in the engineering. Comments such as 'suspension, nah, I don't understand it, I leave that up to the suspension guy' come to mind. Just food for thought.)

Like I said, this is pretty basic stuff, if you have anything on performance tyres etc I'd love to read it.

Nice stuff captain.

This area of motorcycling is comparitable to the "black art" of suspension setup.

Knowledge = lower lap times
