View Full Version : Triumph question :- is this true
" Triumph VIN numbers denote the year model. If you count in to the 11th number, that is the year model. So whilst this bike was made in 06 it is actually an 07 model. "

It may well be, but it means nothing at all of relevance to most insurance companies as for them the year of manufacture denotes the year model for insurance purposes.
So, if the date on the compliance plate says 2006, then they will insure it and therefore factor the insurable value as a 2006 model motorcycle, not a 2007.

As Garry said, the 07 models has few fixes, I would confirm it on triumph675.net

Me too, even tough the photos are great, I've my doubts that the weekend was good value for money. I've finally decided to buy this photos from jpm, expect one of them to be submission to POTM, but I've not decided which one yet, since all of them are good :lmao:
Appreciate the replys. Thanks.

I ride a k1 gsxr600 that was built in 00 and the vin indicates manufacture year.
It was advertised as an 01 model so that it didn't get stuck in the same class as the carby gixxers when searching bikesales.
...but the late 90's carby gixxers are easily differentiated from the 00+ injected gixxers. Your case is not so easy.

Just checked. Mines an 06 and the 11th number is 6....spooky....:shifty:
As far as I know though the differences between an 06 and an 07 are "wafer thin".:)

if that the case mind is a 07 model because the 11th number is a 7
According to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number
The 10th number identifies the model.
I've just checked VINs on the my current and previous 08 675s.
The 1st one was manufactured in 07 and the 10th number is 6 and the 11th one is 8.
The 2nd one is manufactured in 08 and the 10th number is 6 and the 11th one is 9.
I conclude that it's bullshit, since 09 model isn't out yet and it's definitely not an 06 model.
I ended up buying a 2007 r6. Had a ride of a triumph today and i wasnt comfortable with the riding position.
Maybe it was in my imagination? .... R6 felt better for me.
Anyway now that i have a "real" bike i will have to come out for a ride one day.
Cheers,
Will.
The riding position is very forward, but R6 isn't that much different I think. Congrats on the bike and see you at the track, since that's what the bike was made for ;)

10th digit of Honda's are year model also, and of course you will have a 07 manufactured bike but an 08 model, they don't sit around waiting on new years eve and then at midnight, start rolling out that years bikes now do they? Hahaha
