Not sure if this has come from a quick chat we had at Harry's on monday nite but Tex & I were going to put on a Dyno day for RATS.

$50 bucks, 3 power runs, a printout, BBQ lunch and $10 bucks of that goes to RATS.

If this is the one you mean we haven't sorted a date yet but it may be better to do it in Jan as silly season about to start and people are sooooo busy and over commited already but we could do it sooner if you guys wanted us to.

Lots Captain!!!

You can get advice, have an idea if you bike is tired or there is room for improvement, I can check maps if PC fitted and make sure the right maps are being used.

And a fun day, we just ran one for the Kawa club and they had a blast. Lots of them had done Dyno days before and thought it was the best one ever, check out their site.

If your a petrol head of any sort, be it go-kartn, sex toys with 1hp motors attached to them & whatnot, then you will love a dyno day.

The price + the bbq being offered here is an awesome deal! & they are giving back to rats .. I aint ever heard of a deal like this re a dyno day, so the tuners get a big *thumbs up* from me.

Birdman45
06-11-2008, 09:32 PM
Don't wanna upset anyone here, but no way of telling if a map is right or not for a bike, just by looking at it, so waste of time, can you tell if a motor is tired now if you haven't got a base line run from when it wasn't ? LOL Go and get a print out of a dyno chart by all means if that floats your boat, but to me, waste of time, it tells you a number that has no bearing on anyone else's unless on the same dyno. So if you wanna go with a mate and compare dicks, great, other than that................... good way to promote a business, not much to do with telling you much about your bike.

jasonbw

doesn't it show the delivery of the power in a nice easy to read graph? I've got so much power in this puppy of mine that rolling on happens so quick I honestly can't tell if it should be made smoother, wouldn't this help?

Birdman45
06-11-2008, 10:02 PM
well not really, unless you have a major problem. But most bikes now have pretty dramatic peaks etc in their power delivery, and no amount of tuning will change that, it will lift the graph higher but not fill in a hole that is THE BIKE itself, if you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying don't go, ifg you're into that, then have a blast, hope it goes well, but from someone that does this most days, just a dyno run is a great way of getting people to the shop, game over. Here is a graph to show you what I mean, it's a GSXR 600. You would look at ONE of those runs and say "well it has a pretty bad step off at 9K, mapping will help that" and it did, made more power everywhere, but still has the same dips, just at a higher h.p figure now due to the better fueling. Know what I mean?

Birdman45
06-11-2008, 10:06 PM
what I am saying is, mapping the bike will smooth it out, if done properly. The curve itself will not change a whole heap, as that is mostly a characteristic of the bike itself or the exhaust system on it etc. If the bike hasn't been mapped, no matter how good you think it is now, it will be better when mapped. But I can tell you that without having to show you a dyno chart of your bike, as alone it means sfa really You really only use a dyno to monitor changes and see if they are better or worse, etc etc, a run chart on it's own is wank factor 10, but again, if you are into that, great, happy for ya.

dyno has a 02 sensor i think that will help most bikes i think it will be handy to know if your a little lean or rich in areas

Birdman45
06-11-2008, 11:12 PM
Yeah but that involves blocking hoses, fitting the sensor to the bike, and checking out areas of the map etc, which is not a dyno run, and I dare say won't be $50. Again, if it isn't already mapped I can tell you now 100%, the fueling is out, period. Will be lean in places, will be rich in others, you KNOW that in all certainty right now if it hasn't been mapped already, yet to see a bike on the dyno and roll it off after doing nothing and sday "nup, all good there" LOL But anyway, don't wanna get in the road of a fun day.....

Captain
07-11-2008, 07:32 AM
What's this 'mapping' you are speaking of? Does it need buying and fitting of a Power Commander?

Whats your problem Birdman:confused1::confused1::confused1:

you are turning a fun day in to a bash Tex & Jenn & rip the piss out of members, we take pride in always showing respect to our peers in this industry, firstly i explained it in KISS terms as RATS aren't all pro racers, it is a fun day and another reason to get together.

Secondly you live eat and sleep dyno's, good on ya but most people don't have an idea and secondly we are members of RATS too!!! So show some respect just for that.

Quiet happy not to run it if thats the attitude, and if you want to educate membes on Dyno's start a thread don't use us to make your point.

A dyno is a machine that can do more than just power runs, with a good operator it can be an awsome diagnostic machine, hence why they are often called a rolling road. If ur bike has a speedo sensor at the rear wheel or countershaft then we can also check for speedo error, on a rough average, it is not uncommon to find most jap bikes around 10% speedo fast at 100kph. If an electronic speedo is fitted (most current bikes are electronic) this is an easy fix with a speedo healer. It will also help to know if ur bike is running crisp, it is not hard to tell if a bike is tired, previous base lines aren't needed for that. If u are out for performance only and u are doing mod's, sure use the same Dyno' all the time so u have a real base line to work from. Not all Dyno's read the same 'specially if they are different brands, have weather stations etc.
Yes, having a Dyno day is a fun day & u will learn a little about ur bike, it's performance & how it compares to similar models etc. This day is a social day, not a "let's tune for performance, I am racing for a world championship tomorrow" day!. No one is twisting arms to come.:confused1:

Cheers,
Tex & Bundy

but if i was to go to this and see where my bike is not performing at its best....

i would then book it into Mr Birdman45(thee original) to get it all straightened out for smoothness

so from where i sit it really is a win/win situation as such!!!!

people find out whats wrong with their bikes and book birdman45 in to fix said problem...

can this not be the case????

Captain
09-11-2008, 04:46 PM
Yes, well except that IF I understand it right you should stick to the ONE dyno ... so that if you find something amiss (or something you simply wish to improve) once you have made the modification you need to go back to the original dyno to check it again.

Is this right or am I confused? Do different dynos really give different results :confused1:

agreed, on all counts, like I said to begin with, not trying to ruin a day or say you won't have fun meeting people and hearing your bike hit the limiter a few times, YAY........... hope again, that everyone has a ball. ALL I SAID WAS , after a few people posted various things about why they wanted to do it, ie: Bones said he wanted to go and see if there are any problems with the bike, and if it can be made better, now, if there was a PROBLEM, he'd know about it.......... can it be better? if it hasn't already been mapped properly then of course it can, and again, you don't need to do runs on a dyno to know it. THAT IS ALL I AM SAYING.

as for my winning friends, LOL I already know that I piss people off, I am a master at it, I don't mean to , I just say how it is. If people don't like it, then so be it, but what I wouldn't do is have a dyno day to "help people" or "make sure their bike is ok", when really it is about drumming up business for said dyno, NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT, either, but lets not hide behind or beat around the bush by making it FOR THE PEOPLE. Bike shops don't have test ride days with the intent on letting you ride bike you otherwise may not ride , just so you can say "great, thanks, always wanted to ride that, now I have" now do they? LOL They do it so you will buy a bike. AGAIN, I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT THE DYNO DAY IN ITSELF, I HOPE IT GOES WELL AND EVERYONE HAS A GREAT DAY, all I am doing is pointing out some stuff that was being over looked, for want of a better way to put it.

On a side note, on another forum, the owners changed my sig to "forget the dickhead way I come across and just ask". That should tell you something. hahaha

For what it's worth, I see nothing wrong with promotion. After all, it gives people a way to get to know the vendor, we need good vendors as much as they need customers, so it's a 2-way street. We all live in the real world, I'm sure most of us thought this was a good day AND a promotion ... but I certainly don't see anything wrong with that, there's nothing sneaky about it. At least that's how I read it.

Similarly, I appreciated Birdman 45's comments, I didn't see anything negative in them, they were technical and they gave me at least a better understanding of the process. I was suprised that you took offence soloarm, it certainly didn't seem to me that it was meant that way (and made me feel bad for having asked the question to begin with) :ayyy:

All is good I hope.

I have respect for Birdmans last post and his honesty re his mannerisims and from my point of veiw he does know his stuff........our motivation for a Dyno day is purely for a learning op for for those who know very little and want an experience in a fun relaxed atmosphere.............it gets bogged down with tech talk and gets intimidating at some bigger shops. We wanted to have FUN!!!

Thats it in a nutshell...........can we put this to bed now.
