Dont know if this is the correct section, move if needed :dohsmiley:

First, my road bike has tech spec tank grips, other various bikes I ride have stomp grips
and some dont have any at all.

This was causing wear to my leathers from locking onto the bike in a crouch and when braking-
in the case of no grips I found I was excessivly weighting the pegs which is fatiguing.

I stole this idea from the GP riders and some of the top of the line Astars suits.
They have an area which looks like rubber on the knee. What its actually for, I dont
know but its made out of a plastic. I wanted to cover the knee area with grippy material!

I spoke with the guys who recovered the R6 seat in MX grippy material:
METZI
MOTO SKINZ
0407 955867
www.metzi.com.au
info@metzi.com.au

They are down south near the gong.

I contacted George, a few calls and emails back and forth and they worked out
a design for me to play with and shipped them up. They have a piece cut out so they dont wrinkle when standing up

For me, since im wearing holes in my leathers he suggested I sew on a velcro
patch to attach the material to so I can easily replace them when needed.
Rang around the leather places and they said about $60 but I found that the local
shoe repairer could do the job, and it cost $20!

In a perfect world, I would have preferred a larger area around the knee sewn
on as it would have looked neater, but for now its good enough.

So, on bikes without tank grips it works exactly the same as it would with the
tech spec pads. I have short legs and cant lock into the lip of the tank and its
like every bike I ride has tank grips! I still moved around a bit on stomp grips as
its design works on surface area and the dimples, but not any more! The tech spec works
on friction for grip more then surface area and is much of a muchness with the knee
pad material.

See attached for before and after.

I mentioned that the R6 has gripper seat material. This isnt bad stuff and does
what its supposed to. I didnt like it at first as I found it a little difficult to transition
side to side at first (dragging my bum) but it prompted me to refine and work on my
knee's more when transitioning. Guys who have done level 3 might know what I mean.

One of the guys at the track said his bike had the material at the side, but in the
middle had normal material sewn into it to help transitions which is a logical thing.

Like I said before, the material can be purchased from metzi or the seat can be sent
to them and they can do the lot. If you pillion a lot it might be a good idea to look
into it for the pillion seat pad. As a rider, either way is OK for me but maybe I would be
sliding down to the tank if it wasnt there?

06 R6 budget exhaust.

The center resonator and cat's were cut out and a straight through pipe installed.
FYI This is not superstock legal.

As a back to back, I rode it with the 211 ntec'a and + 1 rear sprocket for a bit. These things
alone made the gearing stupidly long. However I took it for a quick spin and the bike
now power wheelies in first gear! This was in a full tuck, weight on the pegs and over the tank!

There is a minor difference in the low end, however its clearly there. Mid range is stronger
and more noticeable gains then low down, but in 3rd and 4th its a definitive improvement.

Top end, well the massive induction noise from a modified stock air filter isnt as bad
and from 10-11K rpm on there is a strong improvement in power. Worth about 10klms per hour on EC straight.

The bike still runs the stock muffler and its pretty loud. I now wear ear plugs mainly because
of induction noise and one of the guys I work with rode the bike, had to come in early because
he forgot his ear plugs. He made an amusing comment that as you pass people, they start
looking around trying to see what the heck it is coming up on them. Even on the straight people
start to turn their heads then they realize they should pay attention to whats infront of them.
Another thing omar said is it power wheelies out of T9 in 2nd gear. I guess thats what superstock
racers are used to...

Something else I have been playing with is the factory trim/tune on the R6. It was running
quite well with just the center pipe fitted, but was lean. Overall the factory trim has allowed
it to run better overall mixtures which seem safe. I am going to add a bit more fuel up top
to see if it does any good and the initial crack needs a bit of work to make it more rideable.

I might pull out the flap in the air box and have another play. For a 600 this isnt lacking,
but it would be interesting to ride a K6 gsxr600 with the center pipe changed to a straight
pipe for comparison. I have a full akra which I got with the bike along with the PC3, I really
dont think I can justify the extra couple of hp so I might sell it.

Overall, compared to when I got the bike which was tucking and unstable at the edge of the
front tyre it has come a long way for my personal liking. There is still some things I dont like,
like the ride position makes it a difficult bike to ride, but its starting to be fun and safe. Not fast
and scary! Zeno has hooked me up with some base number to run and go from there which is
now starting to work for me (since I swapped tyres) Just need to get more saddle time on it.
ATM my body position feels wrong on it and I still feel cramped and uncomfotable.

Video of my exhaust on you tube:

Attached pic 200/55 (Oz supersport) 211 Ntec Vs. GP Racer in 180/55. Note the difference in height. The 211's feel like they have more grip, but also feel like a softer compound. I gave up trying to get these to work. The bike was way too steep I was putting weight on the bars. But they warm up quick enough to be used on the road. Next year they might be a good track day tyre with less set up needed.

Tank sliders

Overseas you cant race without these on the 06 on R6's. Mainly because of this reason:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1nQy72y6lU8

The guys making the mould of these should be done in a week or so. They are going to be
made of a hard compound urethane, which they said is harder wearing then plastic/derlin
and also has better impact strength. The only vice is they can tear easier but they will never
be subject to sheering so that doesnt matter.

I looked into getting some from the states, to me fire damage would be a total loss so
these are just cheap insurance. Starting at $100 US plus getting raped at $30-40 US
for shipping it would have worked out at $150+ AUD given the current exchange rate.

The ones im getting made up will cost $75, and can be dyed Black, white as well as
blue in the molding process. The blue wont be a perfect match for the yamaha blue,
but close enough.

Just this weekend I was testing them on my bike, a mate with an 06 R6 asked what they were,
I told him and he said to have more confidence in my riding. I said I trust my riding but you cant always
trust other people, or there could be oil on the track. Sunday he crashed at T3 and damaged his tank
which is a bummer. One of the other marshals said the tank came completely off!

Attached is the prototypes in undercoat. Im stoked with how they came out and will be glad not to see bog and sand paper for a while. The round indentations are for the yamaha tank symbol which was a PITA

Which brings me to my new race glass. Its made by Attack which is an american company. They have a special on some race glass from $799 but every single report I found had good things to say about them and they were reasonably priced, crash well etc. Their local distributor is buckmaster racing on the central coast. Both guys are great to deal with but what matters most was I was very impressed with the quality of the glass.

Before I opened up the bubble wrap I rang around to see who could lend me a compressor and gun. Finding someone I looked around for high fill, primer, 2K etc but when I opened the box and unwrapped everything, there wasnt any gel coat to rub back! I found it already primed and needing no real prep work at all. I called up a spray painter I know and he came over to check it out and confirmed! So I dont need to rub back the gel coat, high fill and sand. I can virtually fit it and get started! Anyone who has done any high fill work will probably appreciate the time saved by cutting out this process. So all thats left to do is decide on a paint scheme for it...

Might post pic's later if I get a chance

So, with the K6 at zeno's getting the swing arm pivots changed back to stock to suit the K7 revalved shock, I dont have a road bike until he's free enough to change it over or I get motivated enough to go and do it. I got the bike tuned a while ago by colin at 10/10ths. Not a bad job but since he has moved on I needed to get another base run as I picked up a full system for it. I changed plugs a while ago as the bike felt a bit flat- which smoothed it out especially the fluff under 3K rpm. I did a session at EC on it a few months ago and noticed that above 10K, it pulled harder then before. Almost scary as I was hitting 280 indicated by the 300m marker on the straight. Usually it's pulling about 270klm. I put this down to the SC2's I was running at the time and didnt think much more of it thinking the rear was smaller in diameter (which they are not) and its a circumferance difference. However, the dyno I got last week said a different story. Previously my bike made 160hp at 11k rpm but we were missing a few Hp according to colin- they usually peak higher and my bike plateaued, then dropped off. In retrospect I asked if it could be the plugs but he denied and said it was the Jap yoshi duel tip confusing the exhaust flow. But the new dyno said 160 hp by 11K rpm however it now keeps on climbing! Torque and power at given RPM's is very similar, indicating that both read about the same. Where did the extra 4hp come from? The only change been made is the iridium plugs!

At the moment, im not 100% sure if im going to fit the full system on. weavil knevil has one and said to ride his bike before I decide... MC weaponary can do teka tunes at a butt raping price of $250. Good on you guys for getting a new dyno but im not paying an over inflated price for a 1/2 hour teka tune changing 5 zones. Thats $500 per hour dyno time! Im sure they are good at what they do, but reasonable is reasonable. End rant...

So, I will stick the system on, see how it rides. If it has any major flat spots I know a teka or yosh box tune wont trim it enough and I will need a PC- which I dont want to do.

Might have to see if there are any OP spots left for this weekend or maybe hit the dirt/mud! Unless someone wants to lend me their bike? I dont ride on the road like I used to on the road anymore, promise! ;-)

Took your Hammamatsu-hack to the P.O. today - shocks feels good hey; but is a swing-arm moment happening there still...

When ya gonna do something with that R6's sussie, stockers are boring! :lmao: - and I got so many settings and kits that actually work for that model of machine (ah well, try not to wash the front out hey)

...and get a job will ya? :spank: (u obviously got too much time on ya hands ;) )

I love the tank grip on the pants, I have often wondered why pants don't come with some grippy material there just for this purpose ...

Yeah I like the shock, it feels nearly the same as evans ohlins but the linkage thing is still happening. There is something funny with low speed rebound but I assumed it was from the stock dog bone as it wasnt there before I tested that.

Honestly, I didnt mind it at all with the +2 pivots and the 185 dog bone. in hindsight I should have given you a ride of it with that set up.

The R6, well im going to have to think about it. Its not an easy bike for me to ride. I can jump on a school bike and ride that nearly as quickly on stone cold qualifiers. Just need to sort out how I can take all the weight off the bars.

I type fast... 200 emails a day you have to otherwise they pile up pretty quickly!

If you get it done, consider getting a strip up the thigh. Just depends on your Body position. Without velcro, it you would hardly see it, but mine sticks out a fair bit. I dont care, im function over form any day of the week.

They are fine for my current confidence in the bike ATM. Besides, im used to loosing the front on this bike now. Lost it big time in T12 going around the ouside of someone (turned in on the crack offline). For a split second, I though I was going down. Besides, didnt you say your not taking on any more work for a bit?

+1 to that mate, Bucky is a top bloke and sells a quality product.. the sweet raceglass that Alex (749Dark) had on his CBR6 was Attack from Bucky... he bent over backwards to help us get stuff happening in time!!!
