just ride them like you would a cold street tyre and allow a lap or two before you start hard charging... only issues may be cold tearing and heat cycling depending on the compound.

Buying some used ones off a mate myself, and he tells me that if I just use 3 laps to warm them up like road tyres they"ll be fine and won"t tear up. He races in the pro twins and came 3rd last year so I trust his word.

.... or buff them with buffing fluid to soften a little first, will help you go through the outer skin.... (or should). and check and make sure they have not flatted - as in too much use.

It's not Mick Johnston is it? He's a good mate of mine & he's up your way.:ayyy:

Ive used slicks for years & never found the $ for tyre warmers. Like HYPE said, just treat em like road tyres. I usually give em a lap of so to get some heat into em. Keep in mind at a track like EC the left side will get up to temperature before the right.
About half way through the 2nd lap I can trust the left side but wait another lap for the right. This will change a little during the day & it wont take as long because the track will be warmer itself.

Sometimes I will leave the bike outside the pit, sitting in the sun. I dont really think I does a lot but I can convince myself that it works a little. Its a mental thing.

i reckon slicks are slippery as without warmers; as in more so than road tyres by far. i've gone out on cold road tyres and I reckon cold slicks are much worse than cold road but this my just be in my head. :confused1:

not sure how good it is for the tyres considering you would be putting them through constant heating/cooling cycles when there probably not designed for that. ???

just an opinion with no real basis to my reasoning.. i could be totally wrong here. :n:

I was told by a guy of KSRC who races a fair bit that the tyre warmers are used not only to get the tyres hot but to keep the tyres to one heat cycle for the day. That is once they are hot they stay hot for the whole day as slicks only have a limited number of heat cycles before they lose grip.

It seems like it mite be best to stick to treaded race tyres for trackdays,Because we would want to use the tyres a few times and there going to sit in the gararge a bit aswell.

Dont worry Muzz Cuz, your not fast enough for it to make any difference , your flat out laps are what they is calling "warm up laps" :p

Slicks, ultimately will give you more grip. So any mistakes you make the tyre will compensate (if not excessive) for you.
A treaded tyre (Dunlop Qualifier) started loosing grip a the 1.50 mark for my riding and setup, where the slick tyre (Bridgie at the time) got me to 45's before letting go and that was mostly at throttle maintenance on the fast turns.
So I guess what I'm saying is; Same bike, same rider and the same track with very similar conditions, the tyre compensated 5 seconds of value/grip. Which leads me to believe that particular tyre was gripier that the treaded type.

obviously a slick (solid surface) will offer more grip and less 'squirm' (pending compound & condition) than a treaded/rutted tyre on a smooth flat surface such as the track.

A treaded tyre (Dunlop Qualifier) started loosing grip at the 1.50 mark for my riding and setup, where the slick tyre (Bridgie at the time) got me to 45's before letting go and that was mostly at throttle maintenance on the fast turns.

if you can achieve a 1.45 on the bridgies slicks you would eventually crank the DunnyQ's there as well... rather than 'loosing grip' i'd say the Qualifiers were more flexing and rolling at the sidewalls at that pace.

So I guess what I'm saying is; Same bike, same rider and the same track with very similar conditions, the tyre compensated 5 seconds of value/grip. Which leads me to believe that particular tyre was gripier that the treaded type.

slicks offer a few things over a 'road tyre', from lean angles to super soft compounds to a sense of grip, giving the rider peace of mind and easing them into faster cornering on both entering and exiting. Either way 5secs is 5secs!

...
at the track personally i prefer running slicks but a decent tyre like a raceteq is not far from little difference. Warmers will ensure longevity & integrity but is not an absolute necessity as mentioned previously. I would say if you're running times sub 1.45 that you invest in fresh tyres frequently. cheaper than not :(
