hi all,

am really thinking about buying a supermotard.

i am liking the husky smr510. i wont be racing, just enjoying the hooliganism and maybe try a track day on it.

here is a link... clicky... (http://www.husqvarnausa.com/2006/06_SM510.html)

has anyone had any experiences with motards or even the smr510 itself

I looked into one a while ago and my biggest concern was single piston wear and theft. Since they are like 120kg wet it can be easliy picked up and put in a van or ute and they dont have steering locks.

Other then that I really wanted one.

I also considered the SVX550 but the 06 model had engine reliability probs when you free'd them up. I believe they have fixed it in the 07/08 models. V Twin, 5.5'' rear wheel, brembo's

Nice, Con :ayyy:

I have only ever ridden sporty type street bikes, but I did ride a trail bike when I finally sat for my licence and was surprised by how good it was to ride around town with. I remember thinking that if there was a 'street' version that would be ideal.
I have been drooling over the Ducati Hypermotard ..... I really need to take one for a ride.

Sorry mate, this post hasn't helped you any, has it?

The only thing with the true supermotards are their small tank capacity. Both the Husky and the Aprilia are approx 7L which is fine for the track but not that useful for even around town unless you like hanging out at petrol stations.

Like you Cap I had only ever ridden sports bikes, but after a mate of mine convinced me to test a hypermotard i fell in love with it. I did test the KTM SM950 and the Tuono but kept coming back to how much fun i had on the hyper.

jason, i have done a fair bit of dirt riding. it would be interesting having a motard to play with.

yeah the tanks are quite small but i am sure there are extra large tanks that you can buy. i like hanging out at petrol stations, i always meet interesting people, like last night. i met this really cool guy named frank who rides a red and black busa, we spoke for 45 mins about all things bikes, it was midnight before i realised how long i was standing there. :-)

yeah piston wear can be an issue, but i guess it depends on the tune and the rider as well. warming up any bike is crucial, even running in the bike is very important to how the bike will perform and hold its combustion..

the bikes are light but i would only be going form work to home and friends houses, never really leave my bikes anywhere to be honest..

I ride and home converted KTM525 Tard about 100klm a day on my commute to and from north Sydney. It is an absolute fuggin hooligan in traffic and cannot be beaten for beling around town and in traffic. Mine has a 16ltr acerbis tank that cost me $250.00 on fleabay and I fitted a Givi top box for my laptop.

Brakes are great with the KTM hard parts disc and 4 piston caliper

Maintenance on the KTM is a bitch but other than that its a hoot.

As for on the track well I got smashed (RS250) every lap by a young hottie on a 525 tard at the EC trackday on Jan 12th. She rode around the outside of most everyone in the medium group. Bitch :ninja:

Go for it mate:ayyy:

I saw the bike sitting in the pits with tyre warmers on and thought I'll go down later and talk to the owner as I have one the same.

After the first session (where it nearly lapped me) I started to walk down to say gidday as the rider was taking off its helmet. Saw it was a hot looking girl and couldnt face the shame. Walked away:( :Kat00:

Dam she can ride, that thing must have no brakes as it didnt slow at all for corners.:ninja:
