Honda are now selling the new CBR600 and 1000 RR as 'track only' versions.
Bedside the fairing, it has different springs in the shocks (front and back), different mapping and on the 1000 different instrumentation.
Currently on sale only in Japan, but it is believed they will be available worldwide soon.

Hopefully they will sell some 'plugs' to cover the holes left when they removed the headlights .... :confused1:

Nice concept, needs some work though, like you mentioned Captain, the headlight holes, also check out the where the passenger seat would normally be. Be nice if they did some track fairing kit for them as part of the standard package.

Someone will be making race fairings for them soon enough. You could sell the mint street fairings on ebay, pick up some race glass and have change left over.

Hmm, spring swapping will likely do nothing, as they already run pretty fair springs - unless they is meaning to go lighter than 1 kilo in fork?:confused1:
........but I suppose it sounds pretty "racy" :lmao:

Zeno,
The report just said this version gets 'new springs front and back' - that's for the 600 to be precise, the 1000 gets 'revised' suspension, whatever that means :confused1:
"En cuanto a la CBR 600 RR, Honda anuncia que incorpora nuevos muelles de horquilla y amortiguador, escape más abierto y una centralita reprogramada, entre otras pequeñas modificaciones."
- Does anyone here speak Spanish to confirm that I translated it right?
Doonbad, they do come with fibreglass fairing.

Well....about time but they need to refine the definition of "race bike".
Like it should be delivered :
without fairings or lights at all cause they wouldnt be able to make real glass
a special track wiring harness with detachable charge start circuit
absolutely no exhaust system right back to the head.
And for all that it would have to sell for a couple of G less
Blody good idea but the second hand fairing market at the wrecker end is going to suffer.
About a year ago I rang a few Manufacturers (Honda Yam) here in Syd and sugested this exactly but the said the ratio of bikes bought to be registered to the number of bikes bought specifically to be tracked was like 95/5 and they thought it was not a good idea so PPFT.

Dude ...i'm hearin' ya !!!
So, $18,000 grand for a trackie plus fairing/painting plus zorst  you'd be better off with a second handy and flogging the road gear to fund the track gear :confused1:

Nahh, bad photo ! Honda have offered the "basic Racer" cbr1000rr since releasing it... they provide the track fairings, these mustn't be the final product. Look up basic racer, offered across a number of honda models.

I think it would be a bit less than 18G
Buy them out of Japan for around $23,000. Very basic and not complianced to race in Australia. www.motobum.co.jp

honda have been doing this for years
this is how the boys in malaysia buy there bikes to race (less road gear) so they dont pay the huge import duty .

Subaru have been doing something like this for years as well. They make a race ready WRX, no aircon, no interior carpet, etc etc, only thing is is cant be registered in NSW & is for track use only.
Funny thing is though, it can be registered in NZ & Japan ..
Are these Hondas in the same bucket, so to speak?
I think it would be a bit less than 18G
Okay, what are we talk'in??? $16, $14, $12 grand....still too much. I bought my 6 for 9k with 7 thous km when it was 2 years old. Spent a shit load on it, but the initial investment was considerably less than a new trackie....sorry, don't see the benefit

65kg less then a current 600rr and nearly as much HP!
Do you know how much fun these would be? I looked into trying to get one road registered but it can only be done with a personal import
Anyway I think its a bit much for the average punter to spend on a track bike... Race bike is a different story

Hmm, dunno man - will be a long time before road bikes get power to weight ratios like that - OK, well forget the power to weight ratio maybe, and instead concentrate on just the weight. I.e. the determining factor for corner speed... it is more likely that "road-sports-power-bikes" will keep adding power rather than reducing weight - when they reduce weight it seems to be more a concession made so as to assist them in selling even more units.
As power (more of) is more oft the reason people will choose one model over the other they possibly had in mind at time of purchasing their new steed, satisfied that "the other" (this is hypothetical BTW - probably needs mentioning in this modern climate!) model with 2 kilos less weight is not as good as "this one" with 10 more ponies.... Weight has, in actuality, reduced by very little considering the amount of time that has gone by, and how much power has quite disproportionately been added in the interim period since the Japs made the agreement they previously had concerning power null'n'void (CBR1000F, GSXR1100 and FZR1000 EXUP era wasn't it?). But, time and time again people seem genuinely aghast (perhaps they really didn't think about things properly, and really are amazed?!) when they spot how on a tight track, just how fleetingly quick a light bike can get around on a lap... (even with little straight line speed)
Marketing and hype is there to help sell bikes though, and not educate people about physics! (funny that - NOT).
But nah, back on topic, I sincerely doubt many people will have the time, energy, inclination and love to look after a 2 stroke; let alone the correct body-mass! Yeah, they definitely have the transport sorted here (don't see many riding to the circuit much these days - opulence?) as compares elsewhere and different decades. And should even have the funds for such machines; but this level of commitment is more than likely gonna be the reserve of the eccentrics and more dedicated anoraks, non? (as things that make sense do not always make sense...)
...anyways, food for thought... and always good for some Sunday tangentising :)
