The tech bit was interesting, sadly the journo is a bit of a noob when it come to riding but it was a great read anyway, thanks Marcus.
P.s. Traction control and Slipper clutch... dammit !!! Yum! EDIT: no traction control, I mis-read it. ITs more about ignition mapping to smooth out driveline lash

Heres a nice summary from a member of the 1000rr forum who got to ride yesterday with the jornos. he was one of two non journo riders, obviously well respected.
P.s. Heres a pic (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v351/palmer02/RF5G4606.jpg) taken yesterday of the Ten Kate CBR1000RR being tested at a seperate event.
Rode the 2008CBR1K at Laguna Yesterday--This Bikes A Ripper
Yesterday, I had a rather unique experience of riding the 2008 CBR1000RR at Laguna Seca with Honda. Me and another gentleman (Richard) and some editors did five 30 min sessions on the 08, 2 in the am with OEM street rubber and 3 in the PM with the new Dunlop 211 race rubber.
They had about 50 Honda people there including the designers of the 2008 CBR1000K, the main designer Yoshi-san was also the lead engineer for the RCV211. There should be a right up in Red Rider Magazine shortly. I dont have alot of time right so Ill just do 1st impressions
1) The bike is 17 lbs lighter than the 07, but handles like its 50 lbs lighter, the turning ease is phenomonal--period. It smokes my race 04 basic racer bike with full Ohlins and Marchesini mags by a mile. The reason the nose is blunt, is to create turbulent airflow which helps it change direction at speed. Handling is incredibly precise and stable both on the brakes going into the corner, and hard on the gas coming out.
2) Its small, but still fits my 6ft, 210lbs frame--Ill post pictures later
3) The motor rips...they say 10 more HP than last year, but there is a TON of midrange, it revs ALOT quicker...and has a intense attitude from 6K to redline--power wheelies galore, but all in a very controlled and precise way.
4) We rode in the am with street rubber, Dunlop Qualifers, in the afternnon, the new Dunlop race 211's
5) Box stock, I could easily run 1:40s at Laguna at about 8/10th because I didnt want to wad the bike Honda Graciously loaned me. Doug Toland(Honda test riider was leading, Jeff Tigert was behind video taping)
6) yes theres a slipper, works awesome
7) No there is No traction control nor electronic shifting
8) I rode the 07 and 08 back to back, both the handling and the power are literally night and day--I almost wadded the 07 because I just wasnt used to it not finshing turns like the 08
9) Got to do 4 laps on the fully kitted HRC 600RR, that was impressive, the 2008 CBR1000RR fely slightly EASIER to turn than the HRC bike. But keep in mind that Nicky was riding the HRC 600RR two days before so its set up to go 10 seconds + faster than I went, so it was set up pretty stiff.
10.5) The steering damper works awesome, you dont even notice it until you need it, I landed a full straightaway power wheelie a tad crossed up and the damper saved my bacon--kind of freaked some Honda folks out, but was all good and low drama
10) Go buy one--more later
11) The enire Honda crew and PR folks were top notch, prefessional and very friendly--we went to dinner afterwards, did drinks after that--Great people
