Nice "Plug" Clarkey, good to see you got sorted, the 954 forks have a lot of "Stiction" but still handle great........should be awesome now !!

Most forks have a far amount of Stiction due to factory valving, once you change springs & do valving to suit & is done properly by someone that gives a rats about his customers the stiction problem just about goes away. All my forks that have been rebuilt by zeno & I'm talking 3x RC51, 1x CBR1000RR, 1x R1 & 1x F4I don't really have much at all & none have any special coating.

The only thing I ask is people that use him don't let him talk to much he needs to work harder :lmao:

Question: I find my forks Great .. Whats the advantage of talking them to Zeno and could they be improved ??? Thanx Dr Roy, Ray

Everything can be improved (reason race bike suspension is always being tweaked) you don't really know how good things can be until you have pushed a bike that is setup really well. Not all valving is setup the same just to suit spring tension, every rider likes things in some little way different & the main component to achieve that is the valving.

If you be nice I will give you a blast on my VFR which you have seen handles very well, I like major feed back from front end as I tend to push the front but don't like a stiff front that bounces everywhere & you can only do that with valving.

My CBR1000RR track bike front end can hit the inside bump corner before the bridge OP at major lean angle & not be upset one bit as another example (it's better not to hit that bump but on a track day sometimes you have no choice). The rear shock on my CBR is the weak link & I wont bother having work done on it because there not that much better with work & it's a track bike so I want the most traction I can get which will only come from a purpose built shock which I will get but can't have everything at once. My VFR has a 3 clicker purpose built shock & you have also seen the traction that gets out of corners where the bike doesn't move sideways at all but reaches the max grip of the tyre leaving black lines, if the rear kicked sideways doing that I have lost traction (my CBR does that)

I asked about suspenion on here ages ago when I was just about to get my bike done, and I think zroyz replied something along the lines of "I will never ride on stock suspension ever again"

I thought it was a pretty BOLD statement to make, but honestly its one that I have used a few times since!

Im not going to sit here and blow smoke up anyones ass, but my bike was dropped off to him for a 2nd reconfiguration 5 days before a TD and I got a base setup that is VERY good. I need to sit down and work out whats going on and fine tune it but I think the internals are now flexible enough for me to simply do some clicker changes from the road to the track.

My old set up was good, very good and the new set up is more "different". To give an idea of how flexible it was, I could go into a corner slightly slower, hold a little less apex speed and pretty much squish the tyre and jump (not snap, not roll on...jump) to 1/2 throttle coming out of a corner with my knee still on the deck (turtle, bazza has seen me do this). Once dialed in and im used to it, the bike should be a lot of fun!

Even at a touring pace on longer rides, everything happens easily, so easy I can do a lot of it one handed.

Some things that have stopped happening:
Front end slides into corners
Rear wobbles out of corners
Instability at the apex
Head shakes at 1/2 throttle out of corners
Excessive tyre wear
Running wide powering out
Difficult to turn in unless dragging the brakes into a corner
instability while lent over hitting a bump
Im not fighting/muscling the bike around as much

Some of these traits are specific to my bikes OEM set up.

In thehands of someone more experienced then me, im sure they could ride the bike a lot quicker, but even at my experience level it makes a massive difference.

When I got it done, I said to myself "I should have done it a month after buying the bike"

What did you get done to your bike ??? Front ? Rear ?? Both ??? Valving, springs ???

Nah he just lost some weight :lmao:

All of the above at a guess :)

Turtle like everybody else unless you open your wallet you will never know, there are so many different levels in suspension mods there is no real way to give you an exact answer. Even a suspension guru will have problems explaining exactly what you want to hear in a way most will understand, I don't understand it all which is reason it's the one job I don't do myself & have to open my wallet for but I try to keep it simple when asking any suspension tuner what I would like or thing I would like.
1. your weight with full gear
2. what you mainly use bike for
3. your budget
4. what do you think is wrong with your suspension at present

Both your CBR's fork springs should be fine for your weight think standard there .9 for 04/05 they changed to .95 for 06 are there better quality springs yes just like anything else but my 04 uses standard springs but the valving is completely different from factory but still showa.
My rear shock is dead stock because I don't wish to waist money on it when the cost is close to 1/2 way something much better but my budget for track bike is empty so I ride with that in mind. I alway lose the rear on my CBR & have had 2 lucky saves turn 9 & 2 at EC which I thought at the time I was going down & I'm not even hard on the throttle & try to ride smoothly. This is where a good setup rear shock will come into it's own, they don't sell big money shocks just for the pretty colors. I even have an 06 rear shock linkage which is same as HRC 04/05 linkage which is said to be better for solo riding just waiting for me to save the $$ to upgrade the rear shock.

Don't be like slowbro go to the trouble of taking your forks for new oil & seals but then not bother spending $90 odd dollars more to have the valving played with to improve the overall performance. He would rather spend his money making the bike look good than go fast which on a track bike is :eyecrazy:
