Hi Everyone
I am after a little advice / pointing in the right direction....I am looking at doing a few trackdays and a bit of racing, and am getting transport organised..Have just had electrics and towbar fitted to the car so,
So now I need a trailer, would like something small ( less complaints from the boss ! easy to manage and store ) a single bike would be fine, anything i should be looking for in particular, do trailers have to be registered / insured here ?
Maybe even hiring a trailer, but from who.. would help the storage problem i guess
So any advice welcome

If you can store a trailer try and get a 7X5.
At some point, you may wish to do a TD with a mate and you'll fit 2 bikes and the gear in a 7x5 no worries.
Add some removable U channel for wheel rails. Drill hole in bottom of trailer and add 2 locating lugs on each wheel rail so you can just drop them into the locating holes and when you need a flat trailer you can remove them easily.
add some tie down points - flush mounted D rings in the floor.
add gerry can holders on the outside....
buy one with all this already done? prolly around the $400-$1200 mark depending on condition.....

Go Hire hire out trailers, something like $47 a day... thats an option... Of find someone who lives near you in the RATs and they might let you buy into their trailer.
The big question is, can you store one at home?
Yes, they need to be registered each year, about $50 I think.

Ebay a good place to start looking at prices etc. Some companies advertise there too.

Contact a guy called Michael Jefferies from MotoRacer.
He can make custom trailers at good prices. Even ones that have a fold up hitch bar so you can fold it up even smaller for storage.
This way you can still get all the good bits like tie down points, wheel channels/arch etc, built by someone who rides and know's the best way to tackle these things..
He can be called on 0417652631

These trailers fold up, so you'll be able to store them quite easily. I haven't got one so i can't comment on quality, durability, etc... and from reading the online catalogue they would cost around $350 onwards

Alex (749dark) and I bought Michaels last trailer, before I knew he is the tyre guy at EC ! Its an awesome trailer, he knows how to build them. I don't think he does that for other people though, I just happened to be at the right place and time.
Rocketeer, those look good!!! They're in the just bikes mag, I've always looked at those, if it wasnt for Michaels trailer coming up for sale then I would have got one of them.

Hi
Thanks for all the comments and advice, its appreciated. The folding trailers, motoracer and easy trailers look interesting, for sure on the storage, as long as they are strong enough :)
Thanks again

I have talked alot with mick, esp when we went to PI last Dec and he had mad a further 2 trailers for another 2 groups of guys that came down with us - in fact he had only JUST finished them around 15/12.....
Now, whilst he may not make too many I'm sure if someone asked him nicely he'd sort it out.......
otherwise he may have other trailers/contacts anyhow.....I know I'm waiting on one of his larger 6 bike trailers that's already built...just waiting on his new trailer so I can buy his!
6 bikes YEH!!

In the states they are building the same thing we have here for dirt bikes.
It basically sits on the back along the width of the car and you roll it up, strap it down.
Here is something similar as I cant find teh original link:

I have the 8x4 easy trailer.... some of you may remember helping me put my stuff back on it after binning it at OP :hatter:
Very handy, although the assembly (comes in pieces) and getting it rego'ed (it isnt on the RTA list) is a complete pain in the arse.
What i can say is that i live in a unit with only one car space and it folds away to the width of the wheel so i can fit my car and trailer into the garage and im lucky enough to leave the bikes secured on common property which is part of the bigger garage.
So if space is an issue like it is for me they are awesome.

Out of interest what did you have to do to get it rego'd?

weigh bridge ticket, initial inspection, RTA visit as the make and manufacturer wasnt on the RTA system, then back to get the paperwork after getting a pretty stamp it was back to the RTA to complete registered.

I have looked at those easy trailers, they certainly look good. would you get the open, plywood top or metal style ? So the easy trailer is strong, tows well, and is easy to store ? all done by one person or do you need help ? when folding it etc ?
Cheers

single person to fold, strong (make sure you set the tow bar knuckle so it sits tight on a tow ball) tows well, would get the plywood as the metal makes it rather heavy (was recommended to get plywood) and easy to drill and mount things to (chocks, ramps etc)
Only issue/design flaw/complaint are the bolts required to keep it flat and unfolded - the two bolts on the side are easy to get to, the two underneath the leaf spring arch require someone getting under the trailer to do up.
That being said i dont use it every day so it is a small tradeoff
