- It is only available in biposto however the pic is of a Mono.
- There is no S or R for 2008 just the base model however I have read that they will be releasing an S.
- It will cost $22,500.
- It will weigh 3kg less than the 1098.
- It will have 137 PS and 95NM.
- It will have a wet clutch (it's not a real Ducati now).
- It will be available in white and red.
- It will be released on Nov 6th in Milan.
I don't know about you guys, but I think it looks brilliant in White with Black wheels and frame.

for that money just buy the 1098..
only 3kg lighter...:hatter:.. thats a big claim of 137HP for the base, im thinking 115-120 RWP would be more likely
will post a link of some other photos when i get home

Im not sure whether this has any affects to bouncy bits, but damn the single sided swingarms look sexy, specially with a polished rim :o
Hot bike.

I'd have to guess that it wouldnt unless your at the highest of high levels of racing... even WSBK Ducatis have single sided swingarms... but it also says something that motogp Ducatis didnt go single sided.

Agreed :ayyy: . Not that I know shit, just going by WSBK bikes.
Alex.
17-10-2007, 06:39 PM
Ducati went back to the singled-sided swingarm purely for marketing and aesthetic purposes. There's no advantage over the double-sided like the 749/999 models. In fact, the extra bracing in the singled-sided swingarm (it's like a honeycomb structure) has made it abit heavier from memory.
The exposed rear wheel though does look super sexy and in white

Not that Im dissagreeing with you guys, as I agree, but, I would love to hear/read Zeno's reply to it, and why he saids that, if he has the time ofcourse. Learning is good :)

Is a dry clutch that much better than a wet one?
dallas
19-10-2007, 02:10 PM
i heard a 848 was going to be releeased a year or so after the 1098, and i was quietly holding out for one.... but wet clutch has just killed that for me....

Yeah me too. I prefer the dry clutch. Has a better feel than a wet clutch.

I heard the British superstocks were complaining about flex from the single sided swing arm on the 1098. I doubt many people could pick it tho...

here we go.
some inside photos from an italian site of the 848 and black hypers destine for the US..apperantly the yanks are getting them late this year:confused:
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h144/_chado77/848.jpg
from the leakers(photographer above) reports.. no reports on figures yet(weight/HP etc)
wet clutch
No monoblock brake
white will have a black fender and bellypan(unpainted like the 1098S black version)
various bits of carbon missing(gaurds) etc etc..
IMO it seems to be an after thought of a bike..lets see what we can bolt together at minimal R & D cost...looks too much like the 1098 and from all other reports(labels on current 1098's) most parts are from a 1098.. tank, front fairing and so on..
Alex.
22-10-2007, 02:40 PM
Yeah I also read that the yanks are getting the first series of the 848. That's good, let them get the first batch with bugs, issues etc.
Regarding the similarities between the 1098, this is exactly the same as what Ducati did with the 749/999. At the end of the day, Ducati needs to make money to keep making the best bikes around (yes, i'm very biased). So a smart way is to share common components. This shouldn't detract from the overall end product.

Yea, we're products of this generation and the 'fifteen second grab', we can't be expected to focus on one subject for too long.
My father, however, talks to me about Giacomo Agostini every time the topic of motorcycles comes up ..... :lmao: :confused1: Gotta love him :)

I'll take one :
916 in Red
999 in Black
848 in White
1098 in 'Casey'
and I don't even Dukes that much.....but they are tasty.....
then again - each one of those bikes is nearly double (more in some cases depending on the exact model) of a brand new GSXR/R1/Blade/ZX10 which have more power and are lighter. Okay, so so they do have more torque which spreads the power in big fat blobs over the footprint area, possibly giving the tyre less of a hiding unlike the 160BHP Tyre shreadding power at peak revs albeit the in-line 4..........
and both sound great with the right pipe :ayyy:
ARGH...too many really nice toys and not enough cash so we have to become cynical and really tight in what we want out of a bike to narrow it down to 1 choice....
or maybe 2........
PErhaps the bank will lend me some cash and I can get that new dirt bike too....
Oh and I just love fishing, so I need a boat, a jet ski - that's summer covered so moving onto winter.....
nah - I'll just stick to my trusty K5 thou and track days thanks.....

I dunno about jap bikes being lighter, are they ?
Yeah, pipe dreams those dukes are... ahh well, least it feels good to overtake the 2007 1098S on the track using a ten year old R1 :)

Yep, traditionally all V-twins are heavier, longer than than the jappers.........
Surely someone else has noticed this? (or are the jap weight claims VS Euro claims are wildly in acurate? most bike makers are known to 'embelish' on the speccs mind you.....)
ok EDIT:
999 = Weight, 181 kg
GSXRthou - 168
the old 748 - wet - 219kgs (!!!)
848 = 168 (and I'll compare it to what? a 600 or 750??)
GSXR600 - 163
750 - 163
OK, not really trying to start a Duke VS Jap bike war cause I already know the answer :)
But these figures are just what I've noticed over the years between the 916, 996 and the like and the equiv. Jap counter parts (cept Kawasaki Heavy industries......well the new ones are good, but that's cause they're Kawasuki's anyhow.......)
Marcus
18-01-2008, 01:55 PM
I was going to say, I thought the 1098 was a little lighter then the "current" crop of liter bikes.
I also thought the 600 and 750 were 4kg apart in 06.
jasonbw
18-01-2008, 02:11 PM
Ahh cool, thanks JRad, I just always had thought that they would be lighter cause they look so, and handle so good and just feel so light compared. Good to know the kg facts, cheers.
j-rad
18-01-2008, 02:33 PM
dry weight as listed as ducati (no battery, oil, fluids of any kind)
171 kgs....
still heavier?
I dunno, as I mentioned, not a big fan of em, just like the looks but when it comes to the numbers the Jap bikes have seemed to have the edge in those areas....
why else would they need 900odd cc'd twins to keep us with the 750cc 4s (uh oh....here we go..... :lmao: )
again, not fully baggin em cause we don't all buy bikes soley based on the numbers so it's not the driving factor......otherwise we'd all be on the same bikes.....!
It is interesting to note these things tho and if I'm wrong please point it out so we can get the true figures.........
at the same time check this out - at least both bikes are stock, no ram air etc, it's a controlled test so at least it seems fair:
So it seems in line fours aren't really lacking in the torque dept either.....and that's meant to be their advantage.....(must be the way it's delivered then..)

hahaha....sorry, took a bit of drafting that one did...
yeh thnx jasonbw, hope I don't get anyone to cranky... :)
at the same time those R6s sure are quick around EC...!! So before you go nuts don't think for a second I think that outright power is all you need.....
This is were the whole package comes together I think. So along with a very steep price tag, ALOT less power, being heavier, longer (but narrower ) and have has only marginally more torque, I'd still rather go spend $20K on a new GSXR and a further 30K to have the Ohlins/Brembos/etc etc etc - will probably still get change for less than the 'good' 1098 model and after you spend that much coin on it, think of the machine you'd have.....more like 200BHP, torque maybe less cause it's all up high after you hit the engine with high comp, cams etc but you still get one mad bike.......
mind you, the depreciation.......
:lmao: I could go back and forth all day........work beckons....
