Wayne Gardner imports the twenty20 cameras... more expensive but high quality gear (apparently).. that might help with the search.

Hey Gixernut. They do a good job. They are easy to mount with the attatchments that come with them. They are pretty tough as well. The good thing is they are cheap . I run with a 2gb card that gives you an hour of recording.I mounted mine in the fairing . Also mounted it on my ski helmut
yip i like cheap...cheap like me wife

all you need is a converter that will output the 12v bike power to the correvt voltage etc for the v mate, no different than something like an in car mobile charger etc.... pretty sure the vmate wont require 240v ;) ;)

I believe EC wont let you use it on the track. There is another version I have seen that mounts to the rear peg mounts at the side of your bike, but the same problem arises at EC.

Hi everyone,
Thought I might share my experience using video cameras for our videos via Cunningstunts.
I personally use a Panasonic Digital Camera - for my setup you MUST ensure you have AV - IN/out extra plug.
OK - Now Jaycar is THE place to go - my Lippy cost $250 in itself (nothing else with it) and the quality is what you'll see on our DVDs - extremely awesome quality.
Only problem is there is a little bit of set up involved. You will need a battery to run it all, leads etc - what you're doing with this setyup is buying the compents and putting it all together. This is a great system, great if you already have a decent video camera and just want to add to it. NOW The BIGGEST prob with this setup is there is NO MIC because you plug the video feed into the AV - cutting out the video camera's Mic!!
So again, off to Jaycar and I bought myself the $7.50 Powered Mic unit kit - soldered together myself and way ya go. the Lapell mic sits in my CamelBack/leathers(anywhere outta the wind) - the mic is powered by the same battery that powers the lippy. All of this will happily/safiy fit in the rear cowl unit of my GSXR750s + 1000 so all you have is one lead and the lippy. I simply tape the camera ANYWHERE - helmet facing forwards/backwards - and all over the bike both directions.
NOW - that is a CHEAP way out of a simple problem - another way is:
Samsung make a new generation of USB/Flash memory 'Sports Extreme' Cams.
These units ARE TINY.......they also have an inbuilt mic and a remote control unit with light that tells you when recording.....also has a handy little Camera Pouch which always aligns the camera the right way and makes it HELLA easy to mount in a number of spots - better than me just taping it direct to bike but same results....
Probs with this setup:
Compress's to MP4 - VERY poor resolution - worse than most Utube clips
only 20min battery life. 45 mins recording LOW Res before you must dump it to a laptop or PC - again expensive equipment to carry around.
I would strongly recommend AGAINST buying any 'lippy' style cam less than $150 - the quality and light sensitivity are just not there.....
if ya want any more info PM directly I can even send some more details through

dAMMIT - I hate to disagree - that is some GOOD footage you have there but the quality is still a bit low compared to the Jaycar
Camera's available - for less than 250 in setup (excluding the camera) you will get High res DVD Quality footage, which focuses properly even at high speeds and adjusts to light better.....
that's just what I've found - I haven't used all the systems out there by far but I've seen the results and have yet to come across better quality footage from jaycar compents - they still have the el cheapo SQaure plastic mounted jobs which can be handy for clipping onto your bikes - it's just I'd not bother cause for the extra coin same shop you can get 400 % better footage.....

Here is the Samsung unit I mentioned:
We bought one 6 months ago - RRP back then was $1200 - it's a HANDY camera but footage is too poor for us to use on our DVDs so we mainly use it for filming us ride our dirt bikes...Not a bad unit and like I said - handy...ok results if you just barely want to see what you're doing but certainly not worth $1200
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SCX105L-Sports-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B0007QN8AG
When I want good footage to remember or edit into a full clip then I always use my Panasonic handy cam with the jaycar Lippy - never had a problem and in fact - there are other lenses available for this style lippy so fish eyed lenses etc will screw straight on!!!

Thanks Chaser -
I'm more than happy to share any experiences, whether riding road, track or dirt and also filming and IT related issues - the Founding Forefathers of Cunningstunts, (myself, Bender adn Disco Stu) are all IT NERDS so we make our own clips on our website + Utube clips - search for Cunningstunts on Utube and there's a bit ...(except for DVDs being released via BlackMarket Films/Duke distribution)
So yeh - anything bikes, IT or even playing the guitar I can be of assistance! I make play my own original music via and we are trying to use it for our Simple/smaller clips - I run (amongst other things) a Boss RC-20 Loop station so I can create my own songs that have drums, bass, guitars, vocal - whatever you need - then I just burn to CD and away we go.....
If anyone wants to know more about Loop technology for music, for Video capturing via Lippy, editing etc just post up or email or whatever...
Seems I'm being a bit of a forum whore at the moment so feel free to post in our website forum all your questions.......!

The crappy footage I put up is more to do with my lack of ability with post production, as the actual footage is awesome quality....... i just have no idea when it comes to getting it to a suitable compression for the net... ie You Tube, MetaCafe etc..... as you can tell by the uber shit sound...... :( :confused1:
The actual camera itself is a JVC GZ MC 100 (http://www.cnet.com.au/camcorders/camcorders/0,239035915,240003406,00.htm), I got this cam, as it takes CF, which eliminates the moving parts mixed with...vibration problem...
The problem is it does not have an AV in, so no option for a lippy, which is why i ended up getting a Canon DV cam also, as I intend on getting a three camera set up going on my race bike. Forward, rear & dash / facing my melon..... with a Quad processor (http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/multicamera.htm#quad) overlaying them in real time to a single av out, which will then record on the DV cam, or I may trial a v-mate........
It is good to hear those Jaycar lippy's are good, as I was not too sure about them, but was hoping to find out their quality, as I will be getting a few of them, and getting some crazy set-ups for track day / races....... The mic thing is the other side of the equation, I was wondering where to get a decent little mic.... as I want it mounted out of the wind..... and to the rear of the bike.....

Wear a camelback and just chuck the lapell mic in there - right near the exhaust so great sound to edit with and NO wind....works extrememly well and the 1 battery powers the lot.

I found out today that cameras are allowed at EC as long as they are mounted out of the way - so no large tank mounts. The smaller cameras are fine.

My Oregon Scientific is mounted in the fairing with a small hole in the front. It's out of the way and can't snag the rider if something goes wrong. I used it at the Island in Sept and I used it on the 30th at EI. Even mentioed it in an email to Steve Brougy as I wasn't happy with the corner marshall. After reviewing the video I told him the marshall did have the flag out. He seemed ok with it. He even mentioned it in his return email

The sounds quality is what we use on our DVDs for sale so it HAS to be good....
There is nothing wrong with the Jaycar kit except you have to make it - but for $7.50, a little solder and about 10 mins work it's done. I tried ALOT of different options (well, researched I should say) and for about 300-500 you can get a similar powered mic unit already made to do the same job....
Oh sorry I lie - you also need a LAPELL MIC - about $30. This will plug straight into your little powered mic which is then run by the same large battery the lippy runs off....the system is TINY and SO MUCH SMALLER than gaffing a farking huge camera to your tank - let alone the fact a camera taped to the tank ALWAYS gets in the way of ya riding AND it's very limiting - where else are you willing to tape a $1000 + digi cam to ya bike?! Not many places I bet - where as this system the camera is tucked away never to be seen - if you do happen to crash you MIGHT lose the 200-300 lippy cam but nothing else...
Again, sounds quality is awesome from this - just keep it outta the wind. Most of the time with editing our vids we're mixing like a 70music/30bike noise so it's not a huge prob if a little bit of wind noise....

hehehe....
seriously - for $7.50 ya can't go wrong and it's easy as. Took all of 15mins to make the PCB board up and then I just found a small metal box (remember those first generation computer switches?! Like the small grey box with an A + B switch - yeha well I gutted one of those and mounted the PCB board for the mic + battery in there - again from Jaycar, I bought the RCA inputs plus things like a mics sized input + power supply recharging plug into the chassis so to use the gear I never have to undo the box - just plug it in and away you go......
I HAVE PUT A REMINDER IN MY PHONE TO TAKE SOME PICS OF IT THIS EVENING AND I WILL TRY POST EM UP TOMORROW - STAY TUNED....
might have to take a pic of my 100W Marshall Stack aswell just to show off....
