It looks like I will be attending a few ride days
Should I get Oggy Knobs fitted? And secondly, I have heard that that they're not so good - and these are better: http://www.rg-racing.com/browseType/Crash_Protectors/Honda/CBR1100_Blackbird/CP0071.aspx
I didn't really want to have these things on the bike, and I certainly didn't want to drill holes in my shiny fairing. Should I just swallow hard and get the drill out?
(I will also ask the BB guys, in case there's something about this bike that is important to know)
Thanks, Captain.

The gen oggy knobs have sets that come with special bkt's that clamp around your frame like a brace & the knobs mount onto the bkt, I have them on my CBR1000RR. I'm not sure if they make that type for the bird you need to search or ask on a blackbird forum http://www.ozblackbird.net/
To be honest on a blackbird your wasting your money like if I put them on my VFR, with road gear there just to heavy for knobs to do there job & normally case more damage than they save. On heavy bikes there only good if you bike falls off it's stand.

on further inspection for ya they only do "cut your fairing" type for your bike

black or white, you only have to enlarge your fairing mount holes to 13MM
...or you can go for the bling ones... good for a slide and also work as blinkers, and increase visibility...

I've found oggy's great! I've used them 3 times now. Once on the Gixxer Thou road bike (saved it from a write-off at EC), second time on the track bike (saved a bit of fibreglassing & clutch cover & dropping oil on track), and 3rd time saved gixxer thou when it fell of the stand whilst washing the bike.
They are awesome when they save your bike, major hassle gone! But I've heard of them snapping off bolts within engine mounts and ruining bike (although a possiblity, i reckon they pay off and would have to be a big crash to snap off completely! i.e. probably write-off anyhow).

I have also heard that they can damage the frame, but ask yourself this if the oggy knob can do that imagine what the road is going to do. If it goes down that hard just hope you are no where near it.
I found an alternative set (can not think of the brand name) at Castle Hill Motorcycle accessories, they give you 6 different colour knobs and are slightly cheaper.
Heard too many stories about them saving your bike to not have them on.

I think I will put them on then. However, this was the point of my second question - the brand. I have heard that the problem with Oggy Knobs is that because of their barcket, in a fall (anything more than at standstill) they rip the fairing and cause more damage than they prevent.
I think I will go with the other tpre, even if it does need a hole to be drilled in the fairing. http://www.rg-racing.com/browseType/Crash_Protectors/Honda/CBR1100_Blackbird/CP0071.aspx
Thanks for the comments, appreciate it. :ayyy:

humm, think I need to say this again
oggy knobs on a heavy road bike will do next to nothing & the money you spend on them might as well go into a "if I crash fund".
FACTS
1. oggy knobs work great if they can slide, just like your knee sliders, this is why in most cases there good for track because no gutters etc to hook up the oggy knob & rip the side of your bike apart.
2. high side oggy knobs will do about as much as wearing lucky under pants, getting you layed.
3. road bikes with full gear have extremely ridged fairing area so in most cases if bike would slide it will just scratch the fairing (even with oggy your going to get some damage & just one mark means complete respray of panel anyway)
oggy knobs are great for saving track bikes because there race glass in most cases is lucky to be thick enough that doesn't fall apart, so any crash & you have no real strength in fairing to cope with impact.
drop your bike off the side stand & oggy will save your road bike, but just don't do that & you save cost of oggy knobs & looking like a tool :)
there is the bling factor that does over rule everything above, it's like your woman saying she has a headache, you know that just ruled out sex, but there is the second round bonus of being nice stating you will go ride your bike to give her peace & quiet :ayyy:

Sorry zRoYz, I might not know much about Oggy Knobs but everyone knows that lucky underpants are essential to getting laid.

Oggy knobs are meant to save your fairings, if it means drilling holes in fairing to fit them, sought of defies the purpose hey :lmao:
Otherwise exactly like zroyz saids, not going to do much good on higher speed offs, will do more damage than good, and Ive seen pics of them tearing out frame, bolts snapping in frame etc etc. Low speed or stationary drops no drama's and worth every cent, which is why I have them, that and also they make great highway pegs by resting the underside of your knee's on them :p
