Iv'e found a 98 R1 thats been in a front ender of some sort. How can I tell if the frame is out of line & if the forks are bent.
Can you fix bent forks & if so would you fix bent forks.
I dont think a set would be to hard to find if fixing them is a bit sus.
The frame has a dent on the left side where the fork hit it but other wise looked ok. (my uncle looked at it for me).
The hit bent the front wheel (looks like a gutter hit) My uncle tells me it moves freely in the sterring department no tight spots & no play he could feel.
so what do I look for going to go have a look at it myself sat.

its really hard to tell if they are bent unless ya take them off. but push the front down and make sure it moves freely and all the way down. if the frame is dented its a write off so it should be really cheap. so if its really cheap then it wont matter if the forks are bent, but if they aint then its a bonus:D

Cool, its an AWESOME track bike the 98 R1 :)
I believe Slow Bro might have a spare 98 R1 frame you could buy if its bent up, and in a few weeks I'll have 98' forks and triples spare too.
Though if you have the bike apart and are okay spending a little then buy a set of 02 forks and triples from the USA, everything else bolts on and its a FAR superior setup.

Depending on price your main concern would be the frame, without knowing the forks etc are straight it's very hard to tell but if you can't find any cracks around head stock (where forks connect to frame) & looks by eye to be straight then your good to go. Reason is if just alittle out & your eye didn't pick up Mr frame straightener man will do the rest so factor in that cost as a safety factor (think on av $300-400).
The wheel can be repaired will cost about $80-100 & if disks bent because would have happened in acc they haven't been used so can also be straightened (you can't straighten disks if you use them while warped because you flat spot them).
Forks can be bought Ebay US for allot less than here, BUT if the forks on bike aren't to bad you might find cheap parts here as there where allot of 98 R1's destroyed.
Now for the bit some might not like, I wouldn't buy a 98 R1 for the track unless your going to spend some big money on suspension. That model has the worst frame out of the lot & running wide is common under power with that model. I think from memory when they first come out 8 in every 10 was destroyed, I mean for the amout that sold you sure don't see to many of that model.
