Hey Guys

I recently had a little incident involving an unmarked police car resulting in me loing my license for 6 months. I have 3 months left to do on my Ps, however I will most likely sel my bike. I was thinking of buying a bike as a track bike for the next 9 months and a friend has offered me a good deal on a cbr600f4i 2001 model. I have never done a track day before and have not started doing any as i don't feel my 250 is up for it. It has a few issues with the front brakes and I just don't trust it on the track. Is a cbr600f4i a good bike to be taking to the track? I see it as a kind of stepping stone before jumping on the r1, but i haven't heard of many people taking the f4i's to the track. What do you guys think?

Cheers

Paul

Paul,

I recently bought myself a CBR600 F4 2000 model track bike. I find it a good bike to ride. I ride a Z1000 on the road and the riding styles are completely different but the CBR is a lot of fun. You just need to keep the revs up as there is nothing under about 5-6k.

Cheers

They're a great trackbike Paul, very capable, even in stock form, just make sure you check it over mechanically to be sure its in sound condition.

If you can manage to sum up the $399 price tag, a California Superbike School would introduce you to the track and the bike. I can say by the end of the day if you do as your told, you'd be feeling very comfortable with riding on the track with the CBR F4I.

A track bike is a great move.. think of it this way... even if you use the bike for 12 months on track days and then sell it, you have a years worth of essentially 'advanced rider training', that could very well save your life - even many times in future, track riding is a good decision mate.

If youre after a run down on what the CSS school teaches you, pop into here (http://www.nswroadandtrackbikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1096).

Mate I reckon if you own a bike, take it to the track. I dont care what bike it is. Im sure the CBR F41 would be great fun. Do it.

You see all sorts of bikes at the track from Harleys to old Beemers. The guys who ride em are not there to break the lap record, they are there to have some fun. Thats the only reason anyone does trackdays I thought. The most fun you can with ya pants on :D

My son has the 2002 model- took to OP for his first track day and loved it- goes real well. Track days give you a heap of confidence re. cornering and braking.
Get it, go and enjoy.

Hi Paul,
I own a 2001 CBR600F4i and have taken it to Oran Park. It was a real blast and handled itself very well. I would have taken it again however I picked up a cheap track bike. The only minor issue is clearance as the standard pegs are a bit low and when you are really going for it they scrape a fair bit. Didn't bother me much though, but if I was to take it to the track alot I'd invest in rear sets. Here is a couple of shots of the F4i in action
