why do you ride ?
Do you ride for the freedom it gives or the feeling you get when going through the bending bits. Do you live for the track, been able to go as fast as you can. Do you like to ride down a road you never been before ?Maybe you ride just for the smile it can bring to your face. We all ride for different reasons but we all have the same passion Bikes.
Why do you ride ?

I had talked many of my friends out of riding bikes throughout my youth, telling them it is too dangerous, etc, but 3 years ago my wife got me my Learner's Licence as a b'day gift and I loved it!

I sold my Learner's bike (VT500) when I found out I was going to be a dad and after Nicholas was born my wife (:mod_smilie_rockwoot ) convinced me to buy another bike because, as she said, "you seemed so happy when you ride the bike"...

I bought the Busa and a year later sold my car!

I ride every day (almost), in any weather, any temperature, to and from work, to and from track days, to and from drags, to and from yeeros shop and on fun rides with friends to and from Jindy, Coffs, etc...

This is me on my way to work on Sunday afternoon!

At the start it was a challenge to get my license underage, a bet with mates, the RTA never asked me my age and I guess the systems back then didnt check.. got my license, borrowed the uncles bike, crashed it, fixed it, bought another, then more and more till now, a lifetime later and I can't ever give it up since its my 'hit' every day.. no matter the weather its my daily ride that gets me through the weeks.

Good question. Like Irena said, hard to answer.

I ride to live for days like last weekend.

I definatly found a new appreciate for riding!

I went on my first big bike trip. Down to jenoleon Caves, and only riding on straight road for about 30 mins total over 2 days (leading in and out of my home).

I got back from this ride and my mind couldn't stop racing, it was alive, it was taken back by how STRESS free the 2 days felt, how relaxed i was traveling at an average speed of 110kmh, how everything around me didn't matter, all that mattered was the road and my bike!

I now have a new love for riding, i never thought i would or could say that a few days ago but after the kinds of new things i experienced i'm totally hooked and want more!

Riding just is a WAY OF LIFE for me now and i understand what i need to do!

...oh, and another reason... it saves me so much time! (and money)

Driving a car to and from work, finding/paying for parking, etc... :hatter:

On the bike I estimate it gives me an extra 8 to 12 hours each week to spend time with my family, on the RATS website, etc...

well, after NOT riding for the last 5 years and now being back on a bike, I can tell ya, I ride cause it gives me my mojo!!! Apparently I have been a miserable bastard for the last 5 years, and things have changed for the better in the last 3 weeks according to my missus. Now I know that if I crack the shits, i can jump on the bike for a quick ride and get rid of them, if I get out on the weekend for a ride up the old road or putty, I will come back home and have a great arvo with my family as a HAPPY guy. At the end of the day, I ride cause it puts a smile on my face!

A car takes you were you want to go where as a bike you take it where you want to go... Freedom, leaning over on corners, speed, ease of travingling through traffic and park anywhere you want to.

why do i ride??

i get asked this so regularly.
i ride because its a part of me, i grew up with bikes and didnt really find that missing part of me till i started riding myself and stopped pillioning.

i ride for the freedom, it is the only time i really get into myself and forget about everything else in the world, it is my me time and always will be wether on the track or on the road, once my helmet is on i get a smile which u cant wipe off.

nothing gives me more freedom than putting on all my bike gear and going for a ride..

i have missed it so much over the last 5 months i cant wait to find myself again

Alex.

There's so many feelings and reason's why I choose to ride on a daily basis and for fun such as freedom and control of being on 2 wheels, the sights/noises and smells that you constantly experience, the rush when you're carving around the track or your favourite piece of blacktop, riding with friends and enjoying each other's company and experiences, tinkering and just admiring your bike...

Irrespective of the bikes we choose to ride, only a motorcylist knows the feeling!

This has to be the best question ever.
I ride becouse when the helmets on we all become the same.
we are no longer men or women, black or white, just like minded bike nuts.
when one of use has a problem another one of us stops.
at the end of a long tyring ride all the talk's about the next ride.
I miss a ride I mone for days.
I can't wait to get a licence back so I can become a true bike nut once more.

I enjoy a challenge and love mixing it up at the track with my mates. The improvement in my riding over the past few years and the sheer exhilaration of nailing a session or two and then drinking a few beers and talking shit after the event, always has me coming back for more.
Lately I've been thinking about buying another road bike as I have missed road riding a bit.

To ride or not to ride! That is the question

Well it goes something like this. I no longer ride on the road, but I have found racing. So much fun! When I'm on the bike I don't have any problems, no worries in the world. It's my escape from the insane world we live in. :ayyy:

Someone had a sig on a forum some where that succinctly describes part of the reason why most of us ride.

Ever since I was a kid and had my first "flying" dream (lets not get freudian ok) i've been trying to recreate that feeling of joy, freedom, grace and power. The first time I twisted the throttle on a motorbike I knew i'd finally found it.

It's just a great feeling. Something that we don't get very often is the feeling of complete control, which is what it's like on a bike. You control the situation. I only just got my first bike and I already have my eyes on my next one once I get my black license XD

Took one lesson Jason. Unfortunately the airport was simply too far for me when I was living on the Northern Beaches, given other commitments etc, but it is something I will do one day.
Ideally I will take a few months off work, base myself somewhere like Marcoola on the Sunshine Coast and get a restricted licence. But when?

If I have to explain it you probably will not understand, it is the same reason a dog sticks it head out of window in a traveling car, you don't know why they enjoy but they just do.

Here goes a very simple comparison to help explain why I rid.

Bike riding is like sex, You don't need a big one, you don't have to go for a long one in fact YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO BE GOOD AT TO ENJOY IT, simple.

I didn't start riding until i was 18, dirt squirters at first, that was ok, but once i got onto road bikes and some touring i realised there was a happier place to be, so now its my solace and escape. I regret selling the road bike some days. But I knew I wouldnt keep my license on it, so now i have to get my release on the track.

For all the noise that is associated with being on the bike, its very peaceful inside my head when I'm riding

Never done anything else really... Never had a car, and even when I lived in other countries and did different jobs, I still had bikes even then - with or without a helmet!

I just ride cos it is what it has always been - in the beginning when I had the choice to see a movie or learn to ride a bike; well, u know what I chose!

I've only been riding for three years and I regret not getting my license years ago.

When I was growing up, bikes were a big no, no in my household - too dangerous. My brothers weren't allowed to get them and I wasn't allowed to get on the back of a bike let alone buy one.

I've always loved bikes and always wanted to get my licence and a bike. So when the opportunity arose a few years back, I bought a bike and then I got my licence. It's the best thing I've ever done.

The freedom riding gives you, the smile on your dial and being in the company of fantastic friends who just love doing the same as you - you just can't beat that!!

I looked at this question ages ago & thought there are so many reasons I ride, I couldnt find the words.
After being without a road bike for years im now commuting everyday.
The last few days Ive done silly shifts ( late nights & early mornings) in the pissing down rain :D At the moment work is 65km away, so ive had a bit of time to think about it. That & how much fun it is to turn up to work for an 8 hour shift with a cold & wet scrotum ( my dri-rider suit was extremely dry at home in the cupboard).

It came to me the other night, bout 1030pm, pissing down rain, I could see bugger all, water running accross the road, aquaplaning & being blown all over the road by the wind. I do it cos I just love it. Given the choice between puddle jumping on the bike or sittin back in a nice warm dry car ........ I would take the bike everytime.
Pulling up at the servo a guy said to me "you poor bugger", but I had a grin from ear to ear. "I said its alright mate, in fact its kinda fun".

He just didnt get it! He thought I was a loon.

We all love a ride on a lonely road, good surface & the sun shining, but when I was slip sliding, cold, dark & wet, I reminded myself this is the part that is supposed to suck & I was enjoying it. This is bike riding & I cant get enough of it. :ayyy:

Rain, hail or shine these 2 wheeled contraptions are so much fun & I love it.

Long story.......because a long time riding!

I think the reasons why we ride can sometimes change too.

I started out on dirt bikes on the farm around 4 yrs of age > progressed to roadies in my early 20s after realising there wasn't enough money in the world to make my Gemini 'go faster and handle good' :lmao:

Bike riding is an exilerhating feeling. when younger I felt like an adventurerer/exlplorer riding around all the paddocks.

Now I just feel like a hoon :)

Riding at the track to have fun and make myself a better (faster) rider!

Dr freedom

I ride for the feeling it gives me all over .. plus the acceleration is 2nd to none.
Driving a tuned Suabru is fun, I mean being quicker than lots of 200k porsches & the like is a great feeling, although yea, the acceleration a bike has is out of this world.
