Hey Everyone,

Some of you might remember me from the one and only ride I managed to do with you guys some time ago, on a little VFR 400, went up to Jenolean Caves... if thats how its spelled.
RIP for the time being to the Veefa, however, I am now in a position to upgrade, so I went over the weekend to check out some bikes. Got on the 06 600 CBR immediately followed by the 07 1000 Blade. Fark is all I can say. I much prefered the ride on the Blade. My impression was the bike actually felt more stable, more forgiving, more everything than the 600.
What I am trying to get some feedback for is regarding other 1000's, I will be test riding the 1000 GSXR, and hopefully the 750 aswell. I want to know what you guys believe are the good and bad points that these bikes possess.

Cheers

Pete

Hey Pete, in my opinion the cbr1000rr isn't the most powerful of the litre bikes but is very forgiving, which makes it easy to ride fast. Everyone has their own opinion, try them all & see which one suites you best. Good luck.

If you're really into researching then hit the respective forums... like a gixxer one, R1-forum.com and 1000rr.net and find out how that model is sprung, so you'll know if one is over, under or currently sprung for your weight from stock. That'll save some $ down the line when you want to get the bike working right for you.
Seems like the 1000rr is the forgiving one, I love mine, but thats my preference. Like Slow-Bro said, ride them and research, figure out what its use will mainly be (5% track, 95% road etc and make sure you put that into the equation).

You buying new? get more goodies with the 2nd hand ones usually.. well, bang for buck so to speak. Good luck, keep us posted.

Yeah,

I had thought about the second hand option. but then, the only real add on for most second hand blades seems to be the exhaust. As the rest is taken care of. I get suspicious when i see bar ends, pegs etc changed.... especially when the originals cannot be produced. But that said, I am keeping one eye open for a good example at a good price.
Do you guys know if the 07 Blade is much improved over the 05? I have read that they are better, but would rather some "true" opinions on this.

the 06 and up were significantly better sprung on the front end.... i.e. heavier on the front, I belive the back spring went down to a more reasonable weight too.. the linkage which used to be the HRC linkage was added as standard on the 06 and up.

I think zRoyz had some info, or maybe Turtle, where the weight was lower and the power higher. Brake discs went up in size and thinner.. not sure what else.

I think real world wise it might be nicer to go an 06 and up, but to fit an 05 with the right springs wouldnt cost a packet... just worth thinking about.

It's definitely "to each their own" but you need to ride them all. If you just came off a 400 you might want to really consider the 1000's as it is a pretty big step. How does your licence look at the moment? I went with the R1 as it is reasonably docile under 7000rpm. I'm not a speed demon as some of the guys will agree and find it really easy to ride at normal speeds. I was never a fan of the Blade as I found it uncomfortable, but that's only my opinion. The Gixxer is a great bike too but I found the colour schemes a little out dated at the time. Just ride them all!

I wouldnt overlook second hand bikes. About a month ago I seen an 07 1000rr for 16K with 500klms on it!

With transferrable warranties all your doing is saving, and hopefully someone has done some of the more mundane running in for you.

The 06 1000RR had a touch less weight and more midrange, actually just as much as a K5/6 thou.

I wouldnt over look 600's or 675's tho...

Running in ??? Maybe that's another topic but these days cars and bikes shouldn't be run in - they don't need to be babied for the first 1000k's or so.
I would definitely look at a 600 or 750. My partner bought a new Gixxer 750 and it is an absolute gem!!! Heaps of grunt and light too.

Yep, if I was buying 2nd hand I'd be stoked to find one thats been dyno run in or track ridden within reason. hmm, hope this doesnt start another great debate.

Great debates are good.
I admit I don't know too many people who would dyno their bike to run it in, but as far as riding the first 1000k's under 7000rpm, forget it.

I wont be going absolute ape-shit on a thou, even though I came off a 400. I mean, I rode the 400 reasonably fast, for the little thing it was. I will be doing some formal training before the year is up, with any upgrade, and I have been riding for 3 years... although only just now have my fulls... for a number of reasons ;)
The bike just made me smile, and I agree it must be more forgiving than the other 1000's that everyone warns me about their huge tempers, as all the blade did was make me grin, and not once during the test ride make me feel nervous about anything other than my obvious inability to ride it like a Rossi.

A good big bike is like that... anyone can ride it... PB mag in the UK did a test where they got a completely inexperienced kid wanting to learn how to ride, gave him a Blackbird, got an instructor to show him the ropes and he passed his test. Just patience with the right wrist and some training is the order of the day:)

Jason's spot on! No matter what sportsbike you choose (600, 675, 750, 1000 etc), they're all great to ride these days with the technology that you get for your money. Discipline with the right wrist is the key!

It all comes down to what you intend to use it for and which one appeals to you the most.

Take the new R1 for a spin, it's not as agressive as it looks...very comfortable for an all out sports bike.
And at 16,900 RA don't even bother with used cycles.

Hahaha,

Well, the one I am close to getting is on 360km's, 200 by the dealer dude. Rest as a demo. I am sure its been given, but the sidewalls on the tyres are untouched, so it hasnt been hammered.... maybe becuase most test riding it are too scared of dropping it, dont know, all the better for my peace of mind. It machined a smile onto my face. I didnt want to give the keys back. I am sure that all the litre bikes are farking quick, and will cause an elevated state of adrenaline for a day after a ride, but so far I have only been on the Blade, and I like it.

Test ride them all then do some work on the phone and find out what deals / specials are being run at the moment. You might pick up a brand new one with a ride away deal you can't pass.

Awesome !!!

Seriously I would have never bought a test ridden bike in the past but now having read so much on the dyno method of running in I would jump at the chance of a demo bike.. top stuff mate !!!!!!!!

P.s. the moment you get it though, take it home and oil change her... or get them to include that for the price (then watch so you know they did it !!!)

:lmao: :lmao: you both crack me up, I just need to remember to never bend over infront of either of you :lmao: :lmao:

Honda's are always more refined to a point they can be a little boring but in any model range you will find the Honda's have the feeling of being easier to ride. This is why they still win races because refined easy to ride = fast without knowing your going fast.

People tend to bag the Kawasaki as ugly etc but out of the 1000cc sports bikes that is the bike to buy if you want a bike that will scare the shit out of you. You tend to think your riding it allot faster than you really are because the motor is just pure evil. I hate green even if I'm a Kawa fan & the good thing is you don't have to buy green.

I class the R1 & GSXR in the same boat 1/2 refined like the Honda & raw grunt feel of the ZX10R & both these bikes look good, better than the other 2.

It's a buyers market people buy what they like & yes we all have opinions but if people really wanted advise on buying a bike which is for the road the best choice would never be a 1000cc sports bike. But the strange thing is more people ride 1000cc sports bikes on the road than anything else, I know because I keep overtaking them on my VFR.

Mate,

having had seen the way you ride, it would be fun to watch you on a 1000! In my case though, I need those extra cc's so I can overtake the 250's!

People also like them for the wheel stand value, I can't wheel stand scares me to death unless on throttle out of a corner, I do like watching people do them :ayyy:

If your after a 07 CBR1000RR just hold off a little while as the 08 gets closer, my guess is Honda will factory discount even lower to clear the decks for the all new 08.

Roy there is no way a late model gsxr is better looking then a 1000rr (08 excluded)

That big ugly head light with a beak front end

Even though I own one, I choose to ignore it, what I cant see wont worry me...

true but every bike has one flaw & that is about the only part of the bike that is fugly.

I'll be honest I like every bike because it beats walking :ayyy:

wudka

Definately beats walking, as I have been doing that for some 5-6 weeks now, and its causing me to develop knee pains, back ache, fatigue syndromes etc.
At the moment the best deal i have been offered is for an 07 16.4 ride away. I dont know if it gets much better than that. If so, can someone point me in that direction? :P

I recently bought a 2nd hand r1, 02 model, after a 5 year layoff from riding. Back then I was on a Gixxer 6 and had ridden for 8 years on various bits of machinery. The R1 is a sedate bike to ride if you take it easy, I have found it really easy to ride around under 7000rpm. Sure, it does have a temper over that, it's brutal, but if you only hit that when you want to/are ready for it, then it's fine. I rode the new Gixxer before I bought the R1, and it made me feel nervous, seemed to have more of a temper than the R1, and I also rode an 02 Blade, which was too easy to ride, no worries about pegging it in first, etc. Ride them all, make your choice, and take it easy!!

Well Everyone,

After a little headaches and heartaches, I am gald to announce I am back on the road.... a little prematurely, as I buy in 2 hours and 4 mins. I decided on a second hand 07 Repsol Replica 1000RR with 820km's, a nice exhaust and seems to have been well cared for during the first few km's.

I havent stopped smiling since I rode it here to work. I am still smiling at the thought of it. Farking Fantastic! Waiting to finish work so I can ride it, I feel like a 16 year old virgin counting down the minutes to that sexy young "lady friend' who will take me to a new palce :P
Didnt know if I could word that the way that it should be, so a little poetic invention there for all those censory types~!
