i thought everyone knew about this scam but i was chatting to a guy at work the other day and he was nearly ripped of by a similiar scam. lukkily he decided it looked a little dodgy and backed out of the transaction. there are a few variations of this one that either involve and third party holding the payment for the bike, or western union money transfer..
anyway im in the process of being ripped off by one of these guys. he emailed me last week and told me he would pay me more than i wanted for my track bike, plus he will send me the cash to cover the cost of shipping and he wants me to forward the money for shipping onto some shipping company in kuala lumpar!!! we have exchanged emails and he is now sending me a cheque to cover bike and shipping costs, so im waiting to see what happens next!!
anyway this is just a reminder, or some useful information, to make sure you guys dont get ripped off when buying or selling a bike. if someone emails you from overseas and wants to send you more money than your bikes worth, or wants to send you extra for shipping, or wants to deal with western union money transfer or a third party money holder, tell them to "go away" in some way....(my son is reading this while i type so i couldnt swear:p)

there is always the option if he does send you a cheque and it clears of not sending the bike, that's what alot of them do when they're from O.S:lmao:

There have been a few scams of late on ebay and bikepoint where the person selling the bike for mile under market cost and you get the usual email telling you where to send the $$ to. I usually ask for the vin and engine #'s and they can't supply them, or you get bogus ones. Remember, if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is !!!

Also remember that with cheques they are able to cancel the things after they are issued and cleared (i believe they can at least) and the only ones worth a pinch of shit are the bankcheques. Which would be a royal arsepain if dealing with overseas.

Ha ha , that's a classic. If anyone is dumb enough to fall for this scam then they deserve to be parted with their money. As if a total stranger would offer someone a share in a multi million dollar deal.

If that 'at' thing works then how come you get these 2 to 3 times a week ? Glutton for punishment methinks... or like the entertainment.

Another scam I have come across, and it really is a no brainer,... but for anyone having a slow morning that should come acorss one, here it is.
I came across a few bikes,at a decent price overseas. To confirm it was a scam, I sent an email, the guy replied with a bull story, nice pics of the bike for sale and said he was happy to ship anywhere in the world. All I had to do was transfer(internet) 300 bucks or so into his account.... and then pay the rest at the docs, when the bike arrives... Ofcourse I would get a full refund if I was not entirely happy with it on arrival.
To assure me he was genuine he sent me his pic with him on the bike...... Also assuring me that should this be a scam, he wouldnt give me his banking details.....
He got a nice reply, in which all sorts were thrown his way.

This would usually be true, however I've got a mate with a bank cheque for $29,000 thats worth $50. Apparently if you microwave them the value can be scratched out and reprinted with whatever you like. For me cold hard cash is the only way to deal :ayyy:

Had a mate once who was selling a jetski. He lived on a waterfront, so the guy turned up and asked to take it for a spin around the bay. My mate would normally jump on another jetski and follow, but didn't this time. The guy handed him a fat wallet with a couple of notes sticking out in plain view. He jumped on the ski and was never seen again. The wallet had a few bucks in it and some paper to pad it out.
