Hi gents, I need a bit of an advice...
A friend of mine is selling his Speed Triple (back in Italy) and before selling it he is selling separately some of the additional accessories he did put on the bike.
He is selling these wheels (the picture is not the Speed version but the spokes design is identical)
http://www.pvm.de/w/e/mo/products/raeder/16_10sp_max.htm
both front and rear wheel and they are in perfect conditions.
I'd like to buy these wheels but I'm not sure if my plan is right/practical.
My idea is to set my original Triumph wheels for track use, and to have a second set of wheels and tyres for road use, so that I don't kill my road tyres on track.
By the way these PVM wheels are in forged aluminium (made in Germany) and they claim to be the lightest wheels available for the Speed Triple (3.2Kg front, 4.8Kg rear for road use).
This friend of mine is asking 1000 Euros for both wheels including a set of Pirelli Supercorsa at 50% wear.
Shipment not an issue as I'm going over there in two weeks time.
Worth the hassle?

mmm after market wheels are very cool. and swapping for track days is a great idea but your still better off with a second bike!!! you could prolly get some spare stock wheels for a shitload less than that. but pvm wheels definately have bling value:D

This is a very hard thing to give advise on because it really all comes down to the personal bling factor unless you race.
You buy lighter wheels for less rotating mass which equals better handling braking etc, but the av wheel these days standard on most bikes if very light anyway so really unless you race & need every advantage you can get there just a bling upgrade & a big money one at that.
I think you want them for the bling, because they would be the best wheels for the track due to above reasons but you want for road :lmao:
If your going there so freight is next to nothing (leave tyres there not worth the effort due to weight & from memory you can't bring them into aus anyway when used) buy them because they won't drop in value with all the speed triple guys that would want them if you sold here.

You can bring in used wheels/tyres as long as its mounted to a rim. I can assure you its 100% accurate as I went through a major prob last year.
Another thing is dirt/grime is a problem. You can get it steam cleaned over there but it might still go into customs quarantine and they might charge you another steam cleaning fee. If you watch boarder security you will know what I mean but as roy said, might be easier to remove the tyres. But, they might not even check!
As for the wheels, I have heard that some PMV dont have a lip for the bead which makes install/removal of tyres a real pain. You might want to google search it before hand as im 90% sure its PMV but it could be carrozzeria..

Do they have the lip for the bead? I believe there was an early design with a lip and the newest desigh didnt have it...

I have a mate with light weight wheels on his Harris Kwaka and they have buckled a few times hitting bad bumps on our roads, so if you do buy them you would be best to use them on the track.

Also, check with the airline- I doubt you'd be able to take them on as hand luggage so you'll need to pack them in some kind of crate to protect them from careless bag-chuckers. [Maybe see a bike shop over there for some packaging that they'll otherwise chuck in the dumpster.] Then of course they reserve the right to charge you either by weight or by size of the freight- which ever is the greater charge. It might be less hassle to try to source something similar locally. Btw, really nice looking rims!

You're right, but if I take them, which I doubt at this stage, I would anyway carry just the rims and not the tyres; weight would then not be an issue and neither would be the size of the boxes (if I go for two separate carton boxes), also because I'd be flying business class and have all the sort of "gold frequent flyers" things that allow me to carry extra baggage.
I love the design of those rims, and think it would make my Triple a bit special :ayyy: :ayyy:
Only obstacle is the boss (wife), she'd not be exactly happy :violent5:
Let's get ready for Oran park now.....
