Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone out there has a bit of suspension knowledge. I'm looking at adjusting my stock suspension to improve ride.

Currently it feels pretty crap through corners at decent pace (i.e. too bouncy a ride - slow rebound). I think it's because it needs to be harder because I'm probably just a tad bit heavier than what they probably set it up for. Probably just setting up sag would help but I don't really know what I'm doing with that stuff.

Any ideas where to start?
At this stage I'm not looking at spending $$$ just yet.

Yep, the best move would be to call Frank Pons... Biketek suspension... your got a good bike that you paid upwards of fifteen thousand dollars on, just outlaying a couple of hundred on suspension is money well spent. Plus the knowledge you get from Frank can transfer across to your track bike

OK, just re-read and noticed your last line. Start by going into the Tech forum and opening up the 'tearing tyres' thread, download those small video files, or jump into the track forum and download the large version... its from http://www.feelthetrack.com and will guide you through suspension setup.

how much do you reckon it would cost? how does he compare to Terry Hays shock treatment? Are they all pretty much as good as each other?

Never tried Terry Hays... sorry can't say.. but I'd guess that unless your at a national or state level they could both make such a huge improvement to handling that either would be an excellent choice.
Wouldnt hurt to call and say you need sag set, they may not even charge to tell you if you need a different set of springs (so long as you get them to do the work)... so often there are tips and tricks that these guy know that the basics dont cover.... worth calling.

Modern sports bikes from factory have so many suspension settings that in most cases just a few adjustments to suit your riding style & feed back you want is just a matter of adjustments.

There is allot of stuff already posted around the net on what I will list bellow:
1. Set up Dymamic sag & also inspect Static, these two settings alone will tell you if your standard suspension will suit your weight. If you can't set these up close to bench marks for a starting point the only fix is new springs.

I like 35mm forks & 25mm rear Dynamic sag myself & also good base settings to start from.
Set all rebound & compresson settings to 1/2 way counting from the closed (hardest position) back. This is also just a starting point & then you go for a ride & use the feed back you get to make further adjustments (read stuff to tell you what each adjustment does).
Example:
Front dives under braking to much, increase compression.
Front has a skippy feel through turns like it wants to run wide, decrease compression.
Rear squats to much under acc, increase compression.
Raer spins up to easy, decrease compression.

What I don't like about suspension places is, most people don't know what they want or feel & so these places set there bikes up default hard like your on a race track, this sucks for road.

Sounds like you just need to make some adjustments.
I've been to see Frank Pons about setup on my road bike he had a look and made some adjustments there and then no charge.:)

I can help, PM'd my number so we can discuss what tools you have and a time. Doesnt take long to set sag

I would suggest changing tyres first if you still have the BT014's

+2

I had my standard forks & shock respung & revalve & it sucked so bad you had to fight the bike to stay on the road, he was told I like a plush ride & standard setup from factory was very close to what I liked but I had no preload left.

I rung him & told him front spring rate was to much & would taking some length off spacers that I could do at home be a fix. He just said bring it in & didn't really listern. Well after the 1hr odd travel to get there & 1hr odd wait before he even looked at my bike, what did he do. Take out spacers & take off 8mm just what I said on the phone. It was better but still no where near what I wanted so never went back & played with oil weight myself & at different levels & found what I liked. Now valving should be suited to oil weight & feel your after, mine feel great now but valving might not be perfect as have no idea what was weight valving was setup for. I still don't know what weight springs he used as didn't return phone call. I'm sure he nows his stuff, I just perfer a more personal service where I'm just not a job number.

I have found 2 better places to go & the person who rebuilt my SP1 forks did it the way I wanted the first go.

Next time you do your fork oils, check the springs out, there should be a number on them....if he hasn't removed them to keep secrets.

And.....share.....who are the other two???? Let my guess, one is Zeno, and the other???
