http://www.worldsbk.com/images/stories/news/corser_monza.jpgBMW Motorrad's Troy Corser had come close to the podium on three occasions this year, in race 1 at Valencia and in both races at Assen, but it was the Italian Round at Monza that finally saw the Australian and the German manufacturer make Superbike history. A fully-deserved third place for Troy at the end of race 2 behind Biaggi, and just a fraction away from Haslam in second, added another prestigious name to the history books in the production-based racing championship.

The result is the first true reward for all the efforts made over the last year and a half by the racing division of BMW, which ever since it announced its intention to enter World Superbike, is clearly aiming to become one of the top contenders in World Superbike.

A podium has been on the cards since the start of the year but the one at Monza came about thanks to a super engine, an optimal set-up and the amazing ability of Corser, who at 38 years of age still has the will and the desire to be one of the protagonists in modern-day Superbike.

"I am so happy," declared Corser. "We have put so much hard work into the project up to now having had some difficult and frustrating times. It feels so good to see that all the hard work pays off. The bike is becoming better and better. Between the races we made some set-up changes and the bike stopped much easier, and we had the speed to compete with the top guys. Thanks to all the boys at BMW. It has been a long time coming, and it won't be the last time."

Hendrik von Kuenheim, General Director BMW Motorrad added: "This weekend has been a historic one for BMW Motorrad. Not only did we prove the BMW S 1000 RR's quality with a fourth consecutive win in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, we also achieved our first ever podium in the FIM Superbike World Championship. We have reached our season goal quite early. Of course, we will now set new goals to achieve one step at a time. Congratulations to the entire team."
