Suprised to see Rodger in last on the ZX10R, doesn't say much for the AMA competion.

Don't ride off the Kawasaki yet, it's been awhile since they have had a rider with good knowledge on feed back for development & Vermuelen stated 2010 is a development year. Kawasaki is pooling all there efforts into WSBK with no other racing support & he is starting the year with a bike that didn't do shit 2009. I for one have faith Kawasaki will finally sort out all the small problems that makes a bike a winner. I would be happier if they were using Ohlins like nearly every other team but showa will also be going all out to make there components work, bot boy in motogp still uses showa so it's not like they don't have the development back ground.

Roy, is Vermuelen the type that can develop a bike though? I really don't know if his is capable or not. When he was previously in SBK he was a on a proven product so to speak, not something that requires a ground up approach, essentially a start from scratch. I wish him luck I think he will need it.

Bot boy has now changed to Ohlin's as well !!!

I would hope so after his years with Suzuki motogp as that bike was always on the back foot so he spent allot of time testing new components & reading some of his comments about the ZX10 & things they need to work on sounds promising.

Bot boy has now changed to Ohlin's as well !!!

He is now because the team changed sometime last season but bot boy kept using the showa stuff when his team mate was using Ohlins, hopefully showa will be making a major effort for Kawasaki to prove there worth in the market place.

It's all speculation we all can only have views from what info we read the real proof will be when the season starts & the performance of the ZX10 as the season progresses. I'm hoping it starts to kick butt because the more manufactures with race winning bikes the better the spectacle.

Yep, I'm not getting off him, Kawasaki will reign supreme eventually and I reckon with CV as their pilot it is going to hapen sooner rather than latter.

I'd love to see CV go well, but Sykes is quicker on the same bike, Spies had no trouble smashing Sykes last year, hopefully things improve

I hope your right, want to see an aussie fighting it out at the front. But being a betting man you can't beat a dead horse across the line (little reference to your avatar)

He was the guy that Tan Kate picked when they started in superbikes
Chris took the Honda from scratch
started to get the thing going well
and then had to develop it and himself to suit the switch to Pirelli control tyres

Through 2004-2005 he went from consistently mid-pack to a front runner, winning a bunch of the final races of the 2005 season(5 wins, a 2nd and a crash in the last 7 races)
then moved on to Suzuki's Moto-guppy,
handing Toseland a well sorted bike for the next year
which even James :p
managed to ride to a win at the 1st race of 2006
and finished up 2nd in the championship on.(Bayliss won)

Same question on the suberbikes - where's the R1 this year? Way down the pecking order.

*sigh* Still haven't got around to getting foxtel. May go for one of Telstra's bundled internet/foxtel packages.

I suppose this is not getting televised on FTA, even though it's in our backyard so as to speak?

Some footage from the italian TV show "Superbike TV". Sorry about the lingo again, the footage is worth it.
In brief, Ducati is kicking arse, with 5 bikes in the top 6 spots, Rae on the Honda in 5th spot, Suzuki 7th Aprilia in 8th and 9th. Yamaha seem to have lost the plot, they say that the 2010 R1 is just not working. BMW is not doing great either, and trailing the pack (as usual) is Kawasaki.

If that continues for a while then the organisers have to invoke a handicap rule for the Ducatis. This was written in to the regs to get all the 4 cylinder manufacturers to agree to let twins be 1200cc. I can't recall the exact way it works, someone who knows better help me out here.

Captain
24-02-2010, 06:33 PM
The Ducatis need an extra 200cc, that's what's happening. Anyhwere else it would be called 'cheating'.

IMO, there should be a fuel limit ... so that the bike would have a limited energy input. How they then choose to use that energy (1 piston or 20) is up to them.

Tyre life the key to success:

Ahead of the opening round of the World Superbike championship at Phillip Island all the talk in the paddock is revolving around tyre choice for Sunday’s two 22 lap races.

The Phillip Island circuit is notoriously hard on tyres due to it being made up predominantly of long, fast left hand corners.

It seems that teams are faced with two choices when it comes to selcting a rear tyre for the race.

The first choice is Pirelli’s benchmark 190mm width race tyre which is capable of delivering impressive lap times but it remains unclear if it is capable of doing a full race distance.

The second choice is a new 200mm rear tyre which has good endurance but lacks the outright performance on the 190mm spec race tyre.

Nearly all the teams are trying to find a way to be able to use the 190mm tyre and have spent the two days working on suspension, electronics and traction control strategies to improve its durability.

What everyone is trying to avoid is a repeat of 2006 when Troy Bayliss stormed a way at the start of the first race to lead by over five seconds only to suffer acute tyre problems and slump to 6th place, 17 seconds behind the winner at the finish.

Another factor in the equation is the weather as track temperature will also play a part in ultimate tyre life.

There is also a local weather forecast that predicts a 75% chance of rain on Sunday, which could throw the entire race weekend and strategies on its head.

nah I like the fuel limit idea for both WSBK and GP. Maybe more so for GP. If you only have a certain amount of fuel (or energy) then displacement and number of cyclinders become less important. What becomes important is what the most efficient number of cyclinders and displacement is. I guess it would bring innovation and "prototype" back into GP where now the rules limit the capacity and amount of fuel and it appears in 2012 also the bore and number of cylinders.

I guess a fuel limit would also create a parity for other fuel sources. This would allow electric bikes to compete with the same amount of energy as their petrol counterparts.

Will this sort of idea ever be implemented? Not a chance. Interesting? maybe.

Thank Mr Kotter, that's what I was thinking; output per unit of input ... how they get there is their business. Not only does it cover performance (speed) but also best use of resources (fuel).
What I don't like is the idea of riders running out of fuel on the last lap.

Incidentally this is nothing new, smarter people than me (and definetly than wetty :lmao:) have tried it, it was used in F1 for quite a while. Again, this 'running out of fuel' thing ruined it. So it's not really practical, not until it's implemented in a better way, but the concept and theory is good.

Na it's just the ZX-6R is a great bike & can run with all the other 600 at the front, the ZX-10R at the moment isn't at the same level.

Also the RSV4 has some real hp:
Biaggi just cracked out the best ever Superbike speed at Phillip Island, 318.9km/h on the Aprilia.
