View Full Version : Track Day Bookings...

Guys,

Just passing on the word from alot of friends that are RATs members who are paying and constantly missing out (despite saying they paid in the thread when spots were available) for track days...

I think the system needs a bit of a revamp given the increasing popularity of track days and the increasing members..

What about something like paypal? Instant payment, apparently you can even keep a stock style inventory of the spots available so the system will tell you its full?? I think having a few guys manage this in their spare time (I know you guys do a great job and are snowed under) is getting a bit old and certainly frustrating for members..Something more automated would be ideal. Save everyone time, money and frustration :D

Comments??

Morning arsehole - who are your friends, and why have they thrown you to the wolves on this one?

Also, are they following the directions in this thread? http://www.nswroadandtrackbikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=587

Also, there are contact numbers for the organisers Mick, John and Andrew...its possible to give your friendly trackday organisers a call if there is a chance you may miss out, or you've paid but not recieved an email confirmation.

I dont believe more cooks in the kitchen could possibly help this situation any.

Love,
UG.

Easy way to be sure not to miss out is go direct to ECRD . If you do five track days the sixth is half price so in terms of cost it gets it back down to around the same and I am sure Rats will not miss out filling spots as like you say there is plenty of interest .

Not really saying we need more cooks, just a better organisated kitchen :D

just a better organisated kitchen :D

I think whilst its a service and not for profit one at that to members here, the organisatedness needs to be a two way street.

If in doubt, pick up the phone - by sending payment in, they've obviously recieved the initial payment details PM, if you're not getting a response a quick call should fix it, or highlight any deficiencies.

Running a paypal account incurrs fees, and would add to the double handling processes required for the boys to book the trackdays.

Spreading the responsibility around and opening up communication lines not only fosters love for your fellow members, but hones seemingly overlooked life skillz.

WHy book through Rats then ?

Sorry, forgot, they offer and pass on the discount to you for nothing more than a headache, any idea how time consuming effort it would take ?, for nothing more than a thank you mind you, they dont make any profit off it.

Fricken tightarse's, admit it, it is the only reaosn you's book through Rats , is cause your fricken tigharse's who stands to take advantage of the discount they PASS on to you...

Thank You for all the time and effort on members behalf would be much more fitting I'd say.

I have been away for 1 month on holidays and Kat00 has been organising 2 months worth of EC bookings by himself as well as day to day webmaster duties and he still has to find time to do his extremly busy full time job.
We are restricted to only 40 positions per month and these positions have been selling out 7 weeks in advance. You have no hope if you leave it to the last couple of weeks before a trackday to decide to book with us.
YOU NEED TO BOOK AND PAY EARLY to get a spot these days.
If we do as you say and have an automated system, we would be inundated with too many bookings and the problem will be even worse as more people will miss out.
I am now back on ship and everything will be back to normal from now on. Oran Park is nearly finished up, so Vinnie will also be helping with next years bookings.
With the restrictions placed upon us and the amount of people wanting to do trackdays with us, we are doing the best we can.

Johnny
19-11-2009, 11:04 AM
Restrictions is not only placed on Rats btw, same goes for all forums.
Not because they are loosing money by offerring group discounts, but has been proven time and time again, the more riders seeking bragging rights on a forum booking on the same day, the more carnage..

Not sure on the post count idea, as will encourage whoring, and would also mean Underground and I would qualify for atleast 2 free trackdays already :lmao::lmao:

But agree'd 100%, there are even these so called 'members' with no other input, book in with +2 of their mates who aint even members here. More than likely reading this getting offended that I call them tightarses, truth hurts an all :p

I don't think there's a need to get stuck into Kris, he's only asking a question and making a suggestion. Not every suggestion will be adopted, but at least he's making a contribution. This place is run for the benefit of the members and IMO the admins do a bloody good job - that's not to say that things don't ocassionally go wrong - regradless of where the fault (if any) lies.

There's always a better way, and as Bigdog hinted there will be some changes next year (nothing to worry about I'm sure).

Anyhow I just wanted to stick up for Kris, I remember someone criticised us for having a culture that doesn't allow any criticism or any comments that aren't the majority view, and it would be a shame if it were really true.

Morning arsehole - who are your friends, and why have they thrown you to the wolves on this one?

Kris and I were discussing my failure to read the instructions properly this morning over coffee - I may be one of them.

Also, are they following the directions in this thread? http://www.nswroadandtrackbikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=587

Skimmed it, but missed the bit about PMing the right person. Which explains why I couldn't find the bank details. I looked around, and did what I perceived to be right. Happy to admit that I should have read it properly, and I have only myself to blame.

In regard to perhaps limiting track day attendance to those with a history of contribution to the forum - to be honest, it's what attracted me here in the first place - hadn't even heard of EC track days before someone told me about this site. And on the paypal thing, I friggin hate bank transfers and would happily pay a handling fee to use something more convenient, surely from an organiser's perspective there has to be an easier way to run this with automation......?

Here's one I spotted online which seems to look quite good: http://bookatrack.com/-pE_Trackday-Calendar.html

Ohh its a familiar tune isnt it!

.....but know one complains when they want to sell their spot at the last minute cause it might rain or swap it for another date.
What about those issues that cause all sorts of hassels for Admin and early morning phone calls cause some dick cant be registered down at EC when the sparrows fart.
If was me....if you bought it, you own it.

Its real simple, as stated at the beginning of each TD booking thread it states "get you money in quick as bookings are filling fast".
It no good to anyone trying to get in at the last minute

So if the ship sales dont whinge about it, you lot where told!

What's funny about this thread isn't the replies but the stupidity of humans.

The system is already stream lines what isn't stream lines is the variable of the moronic individual who simply can't read or fill out a form correctly with relevant information.

Track days as stated book out in most cases 7 weeks before hand so as soon as a track day booking thread is posted if you want in you click on the link, fill in form correctly & then proceed to your internet banking & pay immediately taking due care to also fill in correct information as stated every booking thread. Internet banking takes max 3 days to show into RATS account & it works if you can't use internet banking go to a branch & do direct deposit which shows money almost immediately. If you can't do either of those two types of payment then book else where.

Oh, I knew you would be one of the " friends"

First post
= Hammo First timer BOOKED/PAID for Group C.

So you announce to the world that you have arrived and you want to do a trackday.

No G'day, No PM to me to tell me about yourself, nothing.

You expect me to part with $191.00 to pay for you up front, cash in advance on the basis of you making one post on this forum in the hope that you pay us and then have the audicity to suggest to us to change our system

Fact of the matter is that the Trackday in question was booked out on the 11/11 and I posted that in the thread. Your money went into our account on 16/11

I am the first to admit that our system is not perfect, far from it but its as good as it can get.

About 8 out of 150 bookings since October have been told that we could't get them in, 3 of which were refunded the other 5 were happy to move to another date.

Out of all the members who got the short end of the straw and missed their preferred tracday was Hitcho73, he PMed me and specfically stated that he had paid, under normal circumstances I would pay for him in advance, but I missed his PM.

For those of you who who aren't happy, you can alway go and pay ECRD $229.00

Enjoy.

I also assumed that they were RATS you were speaking on behalf of, and whilst they sound like they are, Kat00's comments warrant consideration. If the money went into the account 5 days after he posted up that it was full, then what do you expect?

I might have spoken too soon ... Kris having met you, I still don't doubt you meant well, so that still stands but it sounds like there's more to this than met the eye. I withdraw my comments, and let the better informed carry on with the discussion.

I have said it before and I will say it again instead of giving the likes of Kat00, Vinnie & Bigdog a "Jab in the Face" how about giving them a well deserved "Slap on the Back"
These few give up their time for the benefit of the many.......maybe these bleeters should move on to another flock.

Foghorn's just got a little bit riled

Foghorn you took my post out of context, I was merely suggesting that perhaps we can revamp or change the system a bit to a) take the load of the guys who run this site and b) make it easier for people to book TD. Im all for helping as much as I can too given I have a bit of experience with all this technology nonsense ;)

This site ain't getting smaller, its getting bigger and faster. Thats a testimate to how good a group of guys we have here and how well our moderators look after the joint... I was never having a stab, hell i try and support this site as much as possible, booking TDs, buying rats gear through the shop etc etc..

There will come a point where you cant manage it manually like it is...

Anyway, ill shutup. Im not here to whinge, im here to suggest ways to improve things for the benefit of all! :ninja:

No, it wont. 40 places available per booking / per forum - you either book here, or book on ECRD.

I think the entitlement generation forgets one important aspect. NSW RATS.COM is NOT a trackday provider, its a free to register forum, that offers it's members on a first come first served basis, the opportunity to do a TD together.

At which point do people feel 'entitled' to a place in the bookings through RATS?

stetto
19-11-2009, 04:21 PM
on a serious note, with oran shutting is it possible to come to an agreement with ECRD for perhaps 60 spots a month? And/or is there any chance of some wakefield days next yr even if they arent discounted, as we all seem to enjoy the socialising aspect of trackdays?

I thought that, but ECRD already lose $44 (plus lunch) per booking by doing group bookings....and it's not like they are struggling to fill TD's.

We dont see the r'ship building behind the scenes that the admin do with Leonie and co to KEEP our 40 discounted spots

Again. Its not cause they loose money on group discounts, its cause with so many members after bragging rights by booking through forum (face it, its cheaper to book via ec on a weekday, but who's going to see you ? :lmao:) has been proven time and time again that with so many forum members out on the track at the same time equals carnage.. Rats isnt the only one who is restricted, all forum group discounts are limited to 40 per month..

Nah...I'm sure he will need someone to flag :lmao:

Dammit, I take the arvo off and miss all this fun!! Just act like I posted in support of the tireless guys (Mick, John, Vinnie) that make this site a success. The current system works well when you book EARLY!!! No excuses people, you check the site and grab the discounted days when they first appear. Then there's no problem :D

If its a first time bank transfer to a certain person it take 3 days approx to clear there after its pretty much with in 1 working day....

Not with St George, as an example, if you deposit money today it will appear in the RATs account on Tuesday. We have never had a transfer happen on a Monday, Ever.

More than 40 at EC?, Not a chance in the world, explanation down below.

WP? Highly unlikely they will be discounted, they simply aren't interested, could arrange group bookings if required.

I thought that, but ECRD already lose $44 (plus lunch) per booking by doing group bookings....and it's not like they are struggling to fill TD's.

We dont see the r'ship building behind the scenes that the admin do with Leonie and co to KEEP our 40 discounted spots

Leonie is a champ, her organizational skills are unbelievable. Without her effort
this site would not function. She has my eternal gratitude.
She is at the Motorcycle show, if your there thank her because its her who books us in.

Again. Its not cause they loose money on group discounts, its cause with so many members after bragging rights by booking through forum

That is partially correct.
I have spoken to Steve Brougghy in great detail on many occassions and Steve does site Johnny's reason as a partial explanation for the cap but he is also acutely aware in what the group bookings do to his bottom line.

Its OK to get 40 members to any one trackday but we can't get 15 riders into 4 Trackdays in the same month ;)

We actually approached Steve late last year, concerned with the number of booking we were making. We were booking about 30 members per trackday 4 times a month. The way we were going we would have ended up booking the entire trackday. We didn't want him to say enough is enough and ban discounted trackdays altogether.........the way we were going, one couldn't blame him if he did.

Steve talks about balance, he factors in to his operational costs how many discounted trackdays he offers.

We are grateful he gives us 40 places, 50 would be nice but can understand and accept his caps..

It wasn't meant to be a personal attack mate, more a defense, don't want sympathy nor praise, we choose to do this, mistakes occur on my behalf and when I don't get someone in I take it personally, Trouble is, in the fair dinkum department, the only member I could have done a better job with was Hitcho73, otherwise every other single member, like I said, about 8 of them since the 1/10, I did my best and why they didn't get in was for reasons beyond my control and thats a fact.

Can we automate the process further, PayPal for instance, sure but they charge 2-3% on deposits, Trackdays will go up next year on there own accord, stick another 3% on top of that and it starts becoming a pretty pricey option.

the only financial negative is that if we pay Rats $185 via paypal, it will cost around $10 in pay pal fee's per payment that Rats takes out of their payment account... and of course, the fee's are passed on so our says would cost that little bit more because of Paypal...

Kris
19-11-2009, 07:53 PM
Maybe paypal is good for people who pay last minute and want the $ in the rats account quickly?

I dont anyone really cares (at least i dont) about the discount, I book through rats so I can see familiar faces and hang out in the same garage...

Great discussion everyone, one of the good things about this site. I personaly travel along way to do td's and any money saving is handy, but that is not the only reason I book through Rats. It was in the begining, but now we (my wife & I) love the people we've met through td's and other outing with Rats.We are on the site every day. Because we are so far away when I book a td I plan ahead and book early and plan my trip and thanks to a rat member mate I have some where to stay when I do. I have never had any problem . Chris is another fine member I have met and I know he means well and is only trying to improve a problem , but if you plan and book early there is no problem. Hopefully, in the future with Oran Park closing and EC basiclly being the only track for me ot go to, I just hope Rats wont get the cold shoulder form the td orginisers.:)
