I took the Fireblade for its 6000km service today down at Cycle City in Taren Point. This workshop, in particular greg, had been recommended countless times but I was kinda loathed to hike the distance to get the bike serviced. I bit the bullet and made a booking, $255 for a service plus fluids but included a loan bike - pretty darn good considering SCM charge north of $350 for some snotty nosed 16yo apprentice to snap all your plastic clips and change the oil.

Picked up the bike at 5 this afternoon and Greg spent a good 5minutes going over little thing he did, lubing things, picking up missing washers of certain places, a lack of copper washer on the sum plug that SPM failed to install @ 1500km and also commented extensively on the oil he pulled out - it was BLACK and he wasn't very happy with the consistency of the oil or the way the bike ran on it (It was running Honda GN4, the recommended Mineral Oil). He suggested running a Shell Semi Syn product he used in 99% of Hondas, I was kinda not overly sure I wanted to run a Shell oil given everyone recommended Motul but with his reptuation being excellent on all things Honda I took his suggestion.

Greg looked after the bike like his own, everything was perfect he did things he wasn't even meant to and explained everything down to a tee. I paid $312 including oil and environment levy and went on my merry way.

HOLY SHIT. The bike was literally transformed - it MUST be the oil. I swear it felt like it gained 5hp, the acceleration and smoothness, especially from 1st to 2nd was never ever this good, even from new. The engine is buttery smooth, the gear changes are so much cleaner with a really nice snick snick, very much like the operation of many BMW gearboxes. I was in awe, it really felt like a new bike! I was grinning ear to ear - clutch operation was so much better and the bike actually sounded so much nicer, more mean without the kinda strain I felt it had..

Money, Time and Effort TOTALLY well spent!! I'm going to take my race bike and get him to give it the once over - this guy is worth EVERY single cent.

5 stars, HIGHLY recommended!!!

Johnny, just adhering to the service manual, Jesus said he didn't see a need for any more frequent unless it was hitting the track..

Which is why he mentioned how black your oil was, gears crunching, and now engine running smoother.

Sorry Im just anal I guess :lmao:

I personally think the oil change intervals standard are a little to far apart for Australian sold bikes. My reasoning is we have a hot climate most of the year as our winters aren't that cold compared to the rest of the world. The service intervals aren't country specific there a overall recommended interval.

Any bike will always feel better with new oil & there is nothing wrong with old oil being black because it means it has been working, it's more of a worry if oil comes out very clean. The Honda spec oil is mineral based so will break down faster than a synth based oil. I also personally don't like a full syth in my bikes & always after 5000kms run a semi synth.

Greg does a good job & the dealership is lucky to have him when you compare the quality of work from other dealers. My CBR for example was serviced before I bought it by a dealer & the number of things I found wrong with bike that should not happen was staggering. Just to list a few the coolant overflow bottle was empty, the overflow rubber hose was sitting in the drive chain area chewed to bits, the steering head bearings had play due to the top triple nut was lose, there were a number of bolts that were also lose, etc. I'm just lucky my back ground is mechanical & I can do my own servicing because I simply don't trust anybody but myself.
