Ok so I have some time off coming in December and I want to spend a day riding up the coast via some nice scenic/ twisty roads, then stay for a few days somewhere near a beach relaxing in the sun then ride back.

The possibility of riding for more then one day is there, but I would need to stay somewhere over night obviously, I am not very equipped to camp so it would be staying over night in a hotel along the way.

Up the coast is the way I am looking at, I have family up in Port Macquarie however that distance might be a bit much. Places that ring bells are Forster, Raymond Terrace or Nelsons bay.

Has anyone done a little get away like this, it would just be myself for a few days, just wanted to see if anyone had a nice route and destination that they had taken before they could share.

There is a nice scenic run if ya turn off at bulladeala and runs along the edge of the myall lakes with good twisty sections and 100kph limit that will take you through to Forster, just can not think of that roads name sorry...

Riding my GS500, I'm not too worried about riding inland but I would like to pop out on the coast for the stay of my time off and spend some time in the sun at the beach or pool and just relax.

just about every town up/out there has a pub with accomodation, usually multiple pubs. prices are good and they will almost always let you lock your bike up somewhere safe. Garage, hallway, hell i have even had my bike in the dining room in one in Parks.

I know the pub at Walcha will let you kepe it in the garage, thats ont he corner of thunderbolts and the oxley, two fantastic roads. then jump across to the coast the next night.

The Lakes Way via Blueys Beach & Tiona Park :ayyy:

Nice spot near Nelson Bay is Shoal Bay.
Caravan Park has cabins right across the road from the water & 100m from the pub. Top spot :ayyy:

Port Macquarie is too far ?

Haha, I said might be :P

Last time I went up it was about 5 hours on the freeways so I figured going the scenic route would be a significant bit longer, but its not out of the question at all. If you have a route up to Port Mac then suggest it.

Edit - I like that Greggy, I will check that one out today.

The Yarramalong, Gresford and Boral Rd sections are scenic and I always enjoy riding them, but they are VERY poorly surfaced in places - bumpy, potholes on potholes, loose gravel etc, so you will need to adjust your speed to suit.
If you enjoy smoother, more open roads then I'd suggest continuing north on the Bucketts Way, thru Gloucester then turning right at Krambach to Nabiac.
Then take the Pac Hwy 5 km north, turn right onto the Failford Rd and then right again on the Lakes Way to Tuncurry / Forster.
Another option is taking the Boral Rd to Bulahdelah, but instead of taking the Lakes Way, just north of town, take a left onto the old Pacific Hwy through Wootton, then continue nth to Nabiac / Failford.

Most of those roads are full of Gramdma and Grandpa towing their caravan at that time of year - if you have family at Port Macquarie I advise going up thunderbolts way and then down the Oxley Highway, I've done it in a day from Newcastle with the wife and she suffers from (and whinges about) numb bum more than anyone I know......

Yeah, definetly would do port mac if you got family there, kill two birds with one stone..

Putty or Wollombi to buckety's, thunderbolts, oxley..port mac. Plenty variations of..

Easily done in under a day with plenty time to spare..

That said, I'd slab it up (freeways) and do the scenic route on way back..
