I have a friend who's fuel pump seems to have died...

Now I believe these are the fancy ones with the solid state pump relay that varies the pulse to the pump as per engine revs ??

So the relays are some $50 and a pump some $300 ... They arent sure which one is broken and ive heard that if one fails, the other can burn out as a result...

So excluding the obvious of replace both with OEM parts.... I was thinking as its an old bike... has anyone put in an alternative low flow pump, which you can simply wire into the ignition, so pump is pumping when turned on....

Its the Carby model so just needs a bit of flow to avoid fuel starvation.... and not too much or the carbies will over flow....

Yep... I know in my heart of hearts.. OEM is the way to go (for me anyway...)... just sometimes, someone has found a reliable "soap and water" alternative....

Not too sure if this helps, Steve Butler's FZR1000 fuel pump packed in at this years Barry Sheene meeting so I lent him my spare VFR750 fuel pump, worked like a charm. If it's a carby model then just about any fuel pump of the era should work.

I had the relay go on my (now Steto's) 7R- pump worked fine after replacing relay.

Half decent mech should be able to advise which is fucked one would think?

Try bypassing relay and see if pump works...... :confused1:

good luck with that Oggy's friend :ayyy:
