MOTORCYCLES could be fitted with electronic tags to clamp down on riders who flout the law.
VicRoads has abandoned plans to develop a front registration plate for motorcycles, a process that has already cost $420,000.
Instead, the Queensland transport department is developing an electronic system that could identify offending motorcyclists.
Speed cameras are unable to establish the identity of riders because they take a front-on picture of vehicles.
....
Thought it was all about safety ?

Because some people break the law, none of you can expect privacy anymore.
God Bless Australia.

This is nothing new, they talked about electronic means of identification a couple of years ago. At least we are spared the crappy front number plates.

Why stop at attaching a chip to the bike?
Give it a few years & we will have to go into the RTA so they can stick one up your arse. Then all our movements & activities will be monitored by satellite.
Orson Wells was right :(

Never fear, there is a work around.

This doesn't surprise me but it ought to get stomped on for privacy reasons, and so it should.
On a similar note I've often wondered why e-tag's are required for toll ways. They have the technology to take a photo of your vehicle and identify it, then send you a letter with the toll + admin charge. Why not just link the plate ID to an account and forego having some useless tag.... Ensure devices are rear facing (which most toll cameras are anyway). E-tags for bikes? Problem solved, retards.

Because it costs about $5 to make and the chage $80 for it ;)
While I'm on the subject... they take money from us in advance... millions of dollars. They make a fortune on interest on that money (our money) which is held prior to providing a service. SCAM.

I don't use an etag for my bike, just have my bike rego attached to my car account, ride through all the toll roads regularly and it just gets billed automatically to my account....
