Miss what ride? the one where you spend more time hunched over looking at the speedo, and station wagons on the side of the road because the Victorian cockroaches dont disclose where they're placing speed camera's? only to get home and find you were doing five kilometres over the allocated speed limit, and you get to pay the government 146 dollars and loose a point you dont get back for three years?
Oh, that ride.

Close, Tiger (Wer'e not a real airline, airline) Airways @ 68.00 one way, Jetstar (What fire in the cockpit?) at 39.00 one way, depending on what time you're flexible with flying.

hmmm I guess book early and when you factor in tyres and fuel. I don't think flying would be that much more expensive.
I agree with UG (shock, horror!) who wants to ride fearing speeding cameras?

Yup, 0 tolerance, not even a % factor over the limit to account for inacuracy, aren't even required to tell you where a speed camera is operating.

No one will ever know, infact it has come up in court more than a few times, with many cameras down there haphazardly shooting moving tree's and other wildlife whilst exceeding the speed limit.

They have a 2klm tolerance, well they take off 2klm to give you your speed.
So if you were doing 131klm on the gun they will book you for 129klm.

I was reading somwhere not long ago that infact no state has any sort of tolerance. Its just that some states have a understanding that the plod will give up to a 10% margin for error. Think it was in AMCN mag so it may all be bull shit.

Its a 10% unofficial tolerance. Some journo brought it up when quizzing Our roads and transport minister Fat Fuck Campbell as to why not a single ticket has been issued in NSW for going 1-10km/h over the limit on the freeways since july. He said he'll look into that.

Sensible riding at legal limits can be heaps of fun too:ayyy:. Ive had many an exhilarating moment riding at 50km/hr on 6okm/hr limited rds. If you guys didnt break the law so much you would realise how much fun it is. When I ride to my Christian Fellowship Church I thank God that the Police are out there protecting good christians like me. Everytime guys like you speed Baby Jesus cries - just think about that next time you decide on breaking the law.

Yes riding on your favourite stretch of road under the speed limit can be safe and fun but its the long boring monotonous stretches of road that most of us fall victim to.

Tiger Airways Syd - Melb - Syd $88
M2000 Car rental $98 for 4 Days hire
Petrol for Hyundai Getz (yeehaaaaa) $45
Total $231
That's what my GP Weekend cost me to get there and I didn't lose any points :ayyy:
what did it cost you to get there? don't forget to add accommodation going down and back (not there), fuel, tyres maybe? and then add $146 for a speeding ticket :ticketgrumblesmile:
I agree the ride is half the adventure but damn it's easy to get there when you fly! :mod_smilie_rockwoot
Hey is anyone a commercial Pilot? just wondering what it would cost to charter a small plane to fly from Syd to the airfield near Cowes and back?how many people would the cost be split between? :n:
may be prohibitive cost wise but I was just wondering :confused1:
Dont need to be commercial.
I'm a few hours a way from my Private license, was thinking about flying down maybe next year. For either bikes or F1.
Would be limited to a single engine aircraft, flying in clear daylight skies though.
For $140 or so an hour (flying time only), split between passenger its not a bad idea.
Probably need to stop at Wagga Wagga to fuel up.

there isnt much point in fighting this ticket is there? i mean i probaly was speading so i dont really have any course of action do I?
with 3 of us in a comodoore we used $330 fuel and $30 in tolls. add in half a service and some tyres then a speading ticket and thats flights easy. next year we are all going to fly and hire a van each from Jucy in melbourne, its just a trargo with a bed-sink-tv for $50 a day. cant go wrong.

Fight it ?
youd have to go back down to said local court to do so.. Would it be worth it ya think ?
Depending on your record, you could write in and try your luck though.. under section 10a ( I think ?) they may give you the benefit of the doubt and let you off.

My brother inlaw flew us to rottenest island a few years back(from jandicot) when he was instructing(now with rex) , we had the plane (seneca twin engine ) from 8 am untill 5pm and only had to pay for fuel , but the owner of the airline pointed out later that if it had been a charter with our own pilot it would have cost close to if not over $1000 and that was about 12 years ago.

For those booked a small amout over the limit, you could try this.
This will save you some $$$. You just need to admit you were speeding and they will downgrade it to an official warning beacuse it classed as a low speed infrigement (less than 10clicks over). Send them a letter but dont pay the fine. They can take up to 3 months to process it. I suggest you keep a duplicate copy and ring to confirm they received it.
Good luck, hope you can save $142.........

What's with that, anyhow? It must have cost a fortune .... and surely, anyone attacking the speed camera would just as easily take care of the other one first? Granted, some people are really dumb, but still ... :confused1:

I believe it has recently changed its name from Brackistan to Brumbystan? Technology there is so efficient and accurate now that all vehicles apparently have perfectly calibrated speedos, radar and cameras never lie and mutant kangaroos have been recorded at speeds in excess of the official limit.

Reminds me of why I don't ride on the road any more, it's a complete waste of time in this country. Being criminalised for 5km over is out of order, really is. Wonder when we will finally have enough of this and protest about it, really protest..... never I suspect as we gradually get used to our liberties being worn away.

I went down to PI with three other bikes, it was only a passing comment at one fuel stop that made us check our bikes against each other. One BM, one Harley, one Kwaka and a Honda (yeah a bit of a motley crew). There was a 10% difference in our speedo's and odo's. The Japs were showing 10% faster/further than the Yank and German. This was checked against a Tom Tom - which read the same as the BM and Harley. Try justifying that against the radar??:confused1:

MOTORCYCLES could be fitted with electronic tags to clamp down on riders who flout the law.
VicRoads has abandoned plans to develop a front registration plate for motorcycles, a process that has already cost $420,000.
Instead, the Queensland transport department is developing an electronic system that could identify offending motorcyclists.
Speed cameras are unable to establish the identity of riders because they take a front-on picture of vehicles.

My ex's brother got done on two occassions, whilst in Vic, following his engagement... doing the great ocean drive... 101 in a 100, and 103 in a 100...
All within a week.
He did challenege the two, and got a stern letter apparently,, but was let off...
That said, when you make his millions, you can afford a better written, and more threatening letter!
Its a fucken joke!

They have to take of 3kph - on the ticket it should say recorded speed 108 and alleged speed 105. There's heaps of cameras around the ring road including the one that is said to be faulty.
Still - just like bathurst, overzelous police presence is ruining a good thing.

One of the guys I rode down there with went for 139 in an 80. It was in Victoria too, do you think he might get off with one of those letters? :lmao: And before you ask why he was doing 139 in a town he was in the process of slowing down but the officer was getting people as they entered the lower speed limit and had a list of victims a mile long.:cursing:
I think the ride down and back is as much fun as the GP itself. As you guys know there are some great roads between here and there if you get out and look for them.:ayyy:
Speed Limit 100 means max allowable speed 100 , etc no 10 percent +krap.. Lawer speak.

Keep up the good work mate.
I haven't gotten a fine though i'm wary of getting one. I rode from PI along the GOR to the end in a day. I suspect there are some camera's along the hwy section out of Melbourne before you hit the GOR.
I was looking all along the side of the road and didnt see any, so kept moving, sitting on about 10kms over the whole way roughly. I went under an overpass and saw some forward facing camera's so i kept moving. I looked behind me and didn't see any rear facing ones on the other side of the overpass.
So i went under a few more along the hwy and continued. But on the same return trip i saw a couple of camera's facing the rear of the direction i was heading on the way there. (As now going the other way i was looking at the camera on the other side of the road)
Now there was actually a stack of 4 cameras together. Fuck knows what they all do. But i missed seeing them on the way there but caught them on the way back. So im expecting i may get something as i wouldnt went past some getting to the GOR.
I dont know if they are point to point or what. I hope they are actually as i realised a went past about 3 sneakily hidden. Now that means ill get three different ones if separate, but if they were point to point ill only get the one.
If im lucky i may have missed them all. I know there are 3 point to point cameras heading the hwy back to sydney, as you come out of Melbourne. I was ok for those though.
Its just the ones that may or may not have been there heading to and from the Great Ocean Road.
We only saw one copper on the way down travelling the coast road the whole way, though it rained the whole time so that would be why.

I noticed 4 cameras this morning on the entrance to the sydney harbour bridge today heading north facing oncoming traffic...:confused1:
fark knows if there speed cameras, didn't see any signs and its not a toll point..heading north obviously..:confused1:
Boxer
07-11-2009, 10:58 PM
Those ones are for toll runners when the traffic flow is reversed during peak hour. Pretty sure they're not speed cameras. The HWP usually set up their radar and chasers just before that point. Have seen them there on a number of occasions.

Azza, I believe there are point to point cameras on the freeway to Geelong but if you were doing an indicated 10 over you are probably okay.
Hoffy, the speed cameras in the harbour tunnel are easy to spot, there is one north bound and one sout bound. They are just as to start the incline, can be identified as there is 80km/h marked on the road. Look for the lines and that is the trigger.
