Hi all,
please allow me to set the scene.
Last Monday I just flew back from two weeks in Saudi Arabia, Wednesday was my first back at work so I decide to ride the bike in, so I put the battery back in, check the tyre pressures (all the usual stuff). Get to work and during the day I thought I will just give the bike the once over. Bugger me if they wasn't a small pool of oil (about the size of a 50 cent piece) on the ground below the left hand front fork, its bleeding from the back of the fork seal.
I have a TD at EC on the 7th so I'm happy I spotted it, took it into Teknik, this morning as they rebuilt the front and rear two months ago. I walk in there are 3 sets of GP Racer's (French made ones) for sale that have only done 5 to 10 laps for $180 a set. I have a look and the are 190 rears I need a 180 rear for the K1 GSX R750. I talk to them and decided to have them fitted then and there. They charge me $15.00 to fit them, and give the rear one click.
So I ride home, around 40km's, fark...........these things are a revelation, they just tip in so naturally (had 2CT's on and thought they were good) I almost had knee on the ground going 45 degree street corners they are the M Compound and when I got home I could not believe the heat in them.
So now I'm buggered, I will always be on the prowl for them can't wait until next Saturday.
I'm beaming from ear to ear.:ayyy:
Cheers Fog

JOin the club mate i'm on my second set and they shit all over anything i've used, the 2cts are a very street orientated tire, slow to tip in but stable and run well in cool temps.
I also had to put a 190 rear on my 636 for the 7th but riding home from Padstow they felt fine in comparison to a 180 but will see at the creek, should be ok at EC but would notice a difference at OP or somewhere a bit tighter...
GP211's are out now and even harder to find, i would love a brand new set but near impossible to get without a race entry number.
Only bad thing is they only last about 3 TD's and prob 2K km on the rd

if you are looking for a tyre to last a little longer with loads of grip the 209s are the go. the 211s are better again but would be lucky to last a single trackday

Yeah i have only tried the 209's so far and was lucky to get 3 TD's from mine, 2 days were 30+ degrees though

They took both barrels out checked the right one and completely redid the left one and didn't charge a cent. They have done three bikes for me and it has always been a positive experience.

I guess I am a little fortunate, I am also sitting on 3 fronts and 1 180 rear courtesy of Terry Hay's tyre give away a few weeks back, just hadn't got around to having them fitted.
So I guess I have back up stock, but will buy more when and where I can.

Well that's just greedy ...LOL
Your lucky.
They are the best tyres I have ever used.
Will continue to use them. Whats the deal with using a 190 rear instead of a 180, how does it affect handling ?

I have never tried before but i guess the opposite of going to a smaller rear like on the tard, a 180 will turn in quicker and hold a sharper line, but i felt with the 190 i had a wider shoulder and was more confident getting on the gas earlier in the corner but this is only on the rd in a 40min trip home, so will really see on the 7th at EC.
The difference in actual bike size between new 1000cc bike and a tad older 600's like mine from 2006 is nothing.. So i don't see why u couldn't run a 180 on a 1K on a tight track like OP or even Wakefield

I guess we will both be able to do a comparo on the 7th, I just need to get myself bumped up from 'C'

The 209s are a good tyre, but if you picked up rubber from us then you are in for a treat. The Superstock tyres are nothing compared to what we use.
Have fun.

what are you charging a set Terry, For future interest.Laps?

I didn't charge anything. The older supersport / superbike rubber was good for a race and a ride day and possibly another day if you were lucky. The current dunlop Ntec tyres are shot after 6-20 laps, depending on the compound. Suitable for the tip only. Next year there will be a control tyre that should be more durable. The tyres I gave away were the older style. Grant was testing at the Creek today and went through 3 rears. Racing with the current tyres sees hundred dollar notes disappear faster than you could burn them.

Are they using the 211's next year or the new GP-A's?

Eron, booked B2 but missed out, I will speak to Andrew first thing and get myself bumped up........play with you. Mate you are to modest, you are way too consistent for me, might be able to keep up with you for a lap or two if I'm lucky.
What are you doing now, 55's ? Shit mate I have broken 2 mins a few times only. Would like to use your electro thermometer on my tyres though.:ayyy:

They recomend 22psi cold in a rear 209 for grip and wear. On road with too many heat cycles and higher presure wouldn't they be cold and slippery a lot of the time

That's a good point what psi should be running on the track?

Get confused with all these dunlops.....are GP-A's the same as D209?
Is D209 just another name for Sportmax GP racer (which is the current control superstock tyre)?
Is the current control superstock tyre same as the GP racer slicks you get at EC but with treads?

I have been running 28 F / 25 R cold on 180/55's and on a hot day at EC they were over heating so day temp plays a big part. 190 i will keep the same if its a warm day.

GP-A's are the new SS control tyre not the same as the 209's, GP-A's are a bit more durable so won't be as soft but still good for mid to late 30's at EC on a 600.
Yes same tyre
Pretty much.they are both part of the Ntec series

I was recomended 30 f 22 r. I went 30-24 Autum and Spring with 190. Tyre looked good through days but slow and still comming to grips with the bike

30 is too hard I reckon on a 209 they have a very stiff sidewall and you won't get good feel or grip..

Like most of us I'm using warmers, so I'll run F28 and R24 judging on yesterday they heat up and quick
