Gday guys i'm currently hunting down a 600 super sport for myself. To date i've taken a Zx6r and R6 out, loved both but the rawness of the R6 tipped it for me. Was just wondering if I could get some feed back of owners or past owners, just on the good, the bads etc.

Looking at:

R6
ZX6R
Gixxer 600
CBR 600RR
675

Cheers heaps guys:mod_smilie_rockwoot

What do you want it for? Mainly road use, or as a track bike, or a bit of both?

Bit of both would be great, but end of it all. Its gonna be a daily for me

Well, try the cbr, not as exciting as the R6, but easier on the wrists and back :)

Past owner 2003 ZX6r (636) Bike was hard as nails and engine was noisy and powerful. Awesome on track, nightmare on anything with bumps (light rider) loved to tankslap. Can't really compare it to todays ZX6r, but was a memorable bike, I want one for a track bike now. Raw would describe it well.

Current bike is 07 GSXR600. Was never a fan of the Gixer really as I thought they were too common and a bit "shell suit" . Liked the new styling though and the fact the bike was small sized. The difference on road is amazing, much more neutral set up. I have done quite a few track days on it and am very impressed. Handling is sharp with no surprises. Does not feel as powerful as the old ZX but I doubt there is actually anything in it. I can often keep pace with litre bikes on it. All in all it's a great bike (as they all are) it's easy to ride hard, maybe just lacks that raw edge - which is probably a good thing. No problems with it mechanically.

+1 on the 750

only 2kg heavier than the 600 and a decent amount more grunt. especially if its your daily ride, little bit more torque is nice on the road

+1 same bike as the 600 but that bit more in grunt. 1K bikes no probs.

For daily commute R6 is the worst, for track it would be the best (didn't use it at the track, so i can't really tell, also I didn't like the wooden brakes and the suspension wasn't setup for my weight so it handled like a pig).

Cbr is pretty good all rounder, for me it was choice between RR and 675, I chose 675, the bottom end is better and it's narrow which is awesome for lane splitting. That was before the 09 kwaka came out, if I was looking for a bike right now I would check that out as well.

Not a fan of gixers so I didn't look at it. That was in '08 tho...

If it's gonna be an all rounder I'd say got the GSXR750 as well. Hard to beat the extra 150cc even if you throw a LOT of cash on another 600. On the road the extra grunt should keep you more than relaxed... :ayyy:
The new model is due at any day now, so if you wait you can even get a good discount on the current crop.
Having said that, I'm biased as I've always had a soft spot for the 750... if I had to choose a 600 atm I'd have a long hard look at the ZX-6R though.

+1.

The problem with a 750 is that it really limits your choice. I test-rode one, and it didn't do it for me at all, I'm much happier with the CBR600RR (particulalry with a few mods, to get it just the way I like it). As far as 'the good and the bad' of this bike - the one I know well - there's not really anything bad, it does it all so well. Perhaps if you like the 'rawness' of a bike you might find it a little too civilised, but it's a wolf is sheep's clothing.
The Yamaha would be my pick as a track-only bike, too painful for the road. And the Honda of course is another good choice, but really, you need to make up your own mind, which one do you like best?

currently have a CBR600RR 08 for the road (which i'll be selling soon!) and a GSXR600K7 for the track.

CBR (owned for 12 months) is a quality bike, well screwed together and runs smoothly (well, until you wind it up with a yoshi slip on). Has very good low-mid range pull, so can wind on from about 7K revs and it'll pull nicely. Top end it runs out of pull slightly early but you'd only ever know that on the track.

GSXR (only had for 2 weeks) is a great track bike. Not as smooth as the CBR, but more mid-top end. Feels quicker (and is faster) around the track, but makes more noise than the CBR. When i test road one 12 months ago on the road, the rattling and vibrations on the bike put me off.

Can't speak about the R6 and was waiting to buy a race one, but I was told they are more twitchy and very much track focused.

The new (2009) ZX-6R is supposed to be a top bike according to all reports. but you'd need to get a 2009+, the old version was a bit of a dog apparently.

Echoing other comments and removing any brand loyalty or bias, the best road/track bike out there IMO would be GSXR750, a perfect blend between the 600 and 1000, both of which for me feel a little lacking/too much respectively. 750cc capacity is the perfect sportbike I feel..

I guess the only thing with the 750 is as Captain said, really limits your choices and if you choose to race later on, there really isn't a class for it as far as I know (prove me wrong if you know otherwise)..

Other than that, the only thing to do is to ride them all and then decide for yourself which one fits you the best. Good luck :ayyy:

I think everyone here is talking about road commute, read the OPs post again. I wonder how many people on this board are doing 1:37 at EC on their virtually stock 600s? I assume you are one of them?

But would they be competitive running with 1000cc fours in unlimited? 1000cc V twins would be a better match. I don't know, just throwing ideas around..

they can and do. a superstock 600 on a control road tyre can run 37's at EC. thats more than good enough to run with the 1000's. A 750 with better tyres and more HP than the 600 can sure keep up with most of the 1000's.

Yeah i think youd get more enjoyment from the 750 too (great looking bike) sounds good with a pipe. Just a bit expensive. But if ya got the shekels why not. I got the litre bike so I supposed im spoilt for the pow3r thats why i got the R6 - for some fun at the track, but I dont seem to feel uncomfortable on it in traffic or long rides. I'm small at 73 kilos and the r6 is light too. Good luck Champo you cant go wrong with whatever you choose- At the moment all the mid sizers look great anyway. But ive learnt alot more on the 600 than the litre bikes.:ayyy:

Tried to use the excuse that he was on his P's, didnt matter though, my 600rr is LAMS :lmao:

I even offered to double him and he still said NO!:crysmiley:

EDIT: I took a '08 ZX10 out last weekend, veerrryy nice, so if that is anything to judge I bet the ZX6 is the best allrounder out of all the 600's

Bloke I was talkin to in the pits last weekend races one in super stock , Just traded up-down ( Depends on yr definition ) and raved about it in comparison, Forks looked impressive , similar to K9 thou in design but apparently a 7hp gap -Thats some performane gap-

May not have the handling of the cbr outta the crate but I think Zeno would have a field day with these

You will read all the comments about which one to buy. It will leave you with more questions than answers, you'll get people raving about each option you gave them. And i'm guessing your no closer to deciding based on what you read here.

Only way is to test all yourself and pick

I picked up my new R6 back in june and love it don't know about anyone that says they are no good for a daily, i rode it down to the Gp this year and even after 10 hour mission home wasn't sore at all but i'm only 5"8 and 70kgs.
Although i wouldn't mind taking the 09 zx6 for a decent spin to see how they compare and the cbr has always had the rep of most user friendly. Is there much differecne in price between them all if your happy to ride any of them see who will do you the best deal
