o.k so now i'll be travelling to work. its a 90km round trip...
i dont want to be taking the TL, so i'll be needing a commuter,
it doesnt have to be anything fancy, heck even an 81' suzuki may cut the mustard, 90% of my trip is motorway, normal roads with a bit of tickle in the end.
i have a budget of $2k-ish
just a simple bike and a little bit of poke, not too much, to haul my 107kg frame from mosman to kurnell
so whos riding what and how does it go??

Geez Dazz how much will that be in tolls every week?
dazzler
28-10-2009, 07:16 PM
you dont wanna know, i can avoid one but not the other....
but i am considering getting off at cleveland street and doing the detour. that will work out to be 6 extra T.D's a year....
oh and also a stash of motorcycle license plates wouldn't go a miss either:lmao:

My little CB 250 just clicked round the clock the other day. It gets me from Stanwell Park to the airport six days a week rain hail or shine. It lives outside, never gets washed and is treated in such a way that I'm surprised she hasn't left me by now. Cheap to run, I get about 360kay to a tank that cost around $14-$15 a tank.
Oh, and it doesn't get me in trouble.

If you only want it for commuting get a 250 or a 500 or somthing. Save more on petrol...
dazzler
28-10-2009, 07:38 PM
250 cheap to rego too isn't it???
dazzler
28-10-2009, 07:39 PM
thats more the concern,petrol....
the trip in the morning is awesome. no-one on the road, i dont want to get in trouble, something small to lane split. and easy on the gas!!!

depends on your definition of perfect commuter
imho commuter needs to be cheap to run ,
rego
tyres
fuel
service
thats a basic 250
spada , zzr/gpx both have large tanks 350K+
bit more poke , skinny rubber , say a shafty older suzuki/kwaka
if you can handle a spanner then ebay is your friend , something cheap and cheerful , add rego, tyres , service , turn em over every 3-6 months and would just about commute for free
I'd pay to see Daz fold himself into a small enough ball to fit on a 250 roadbike :lmao:
I reckon get a road/trail or something like that. 450cc should keep you out of trouble but also be able to push that head of yours through the wind :ayyy:

CB250, cheap rego, cheap to run, easy to lane split, no fairings to injure and hard to get yourself into trouble.

28-10-2009, 07:51 PM
Johnnie5 thats exactly what i was thinking!!!
nothing fancy, its not a second bike, its a commuter, will be used in the dry as i have a car for the wet.
gonna have a look at the 250's the rego on them is cheaper, what about the green slip??
dazzler
28-10-2009, 07:52 PM

Hey Dazz I could see you on a nice old VFR400 warhorse.Revving the crap out of it, knees up around your ears whilst you're tucked in to try and hit the 80km/m speed limit on the way out to FARKurnell.
mate for your size(height) grab an older 600. 90's model.cheap enough to run, parts still available etc etc.
rev's = maintenance

28-10-2009, 07:58 PM
considered a tin top (car)?????
might be handy when it's pissing down the whole trip from mosman to kurnell??
For $2000 you'd get more value for money with a car than bike.
Don't get me wrong not trying to discourage you from riding a bike but with a budget of $2000 small car might be better. eg older model carolla.Engines last forever.

No real idea about prices but some sort of small-medium bore motarded dirtbike or just an older trail bike might do the trick. Also good for practising mono's:D

+1 on the XR400, add a long range tank, some road tires and a loud exhaust - absolute hooligan machine that is virtually indestructable for those who don't want to spend the coin on a modern motard.
If only I could convince the wife that I need one.....

Word of caution, cheep transport ie buying a cheep bike doesn't always mean you save in the long run. It's always better to pay a little more up front than pay for constant repairs.

and you look like an absolute twat. "I want to ride my pushy into work" fair enough, "but I don't want to peddle" wait, what? "So I've bought a motorized pushy" WHY DON'T YOU JUST RIDE THE FRIGGEN' 'BLADE!!!
If you're not going to ride it I'm going to have to confiscate it, you have illegal chicken strips and your limp wrists don't seem to be able to operate the throttle properly.:tfg:

Liam I Bought the cbr for FUN, its not fun riding 5 minutes to work when you have to take all your shit off to show your pass at the gate. But you look like a twat when you ride to work when it is absolutley pissing down so you can show everyone at work your a hard nut when you have a perfectly good car that keeps you dry and warm. The motorized pushy is because im a tight, lazy prick and the car barely wams up by the time I get to work. Chicken strips don't bother me either I still have plenty of fun on the bike and ride to my ability, you don't have to go knee down every where, like you do and did the other morning when you past me on the pushy, to prove how hard you are.
You always rant on about your minuscule chicken strips and how you overheated you tires on the hyosung but in the chicken strip tread YOU started some very knowledgeable, skilled riders thought its not the be all and end all.
I reckon the lack of chicken strips is over rated.Somtimes, I reckon suspension plays a part, turn latter and quicker and you will have more contact patch. Its not uncommon to look at Blackbirdphill's rear tyre and see 10mm chicken strips and I can't get anywhere near him so the lack of them doesn't necassarilly tell the whole story :)
also tyre pressure and profile of the tyre.
Body position......the list goes on.....If Rossi was doing 1:50`s at the Creek he would have 2" chicken strips.
"chicken strips" aren't a good indication.. a rider who understands steering and body position can have chicken strips yet go through the same turns on the same bike as others, faster and with lean angle to spare.
Why do you have to push the point about how far you you can lean over and drag your knee or boots, when riding on the streets, when people either don't care or ride to a level they are comfortable with.
I'll do my 2004 model GS500, crashed and unregistered, for $2k.
waaaaaaaaaa I have sand in my vagina :crysmiley:
pfft, you missed the point. I ride in the rain coz my car is unreliable, windscreen wipers dont work and I prefer riding. with my wet weather jacket I don't get wet much at all. if it's pissing down I'll takethe car.
:D
chicken strips on a sportsbike are a good indication of how it's been ridden, just saying a VFR mobility scooter or Harley wheelchair might suit you better. you wanted something small, upright seating position, comfy and probably a 600 so you bought the superbike of the year?
"Hey Steve, lets go for a ride"
"Ok, but can we go not too far and somewhere without too many corners?"
"Like Windsor Rd?"
"Yeah"

I reckon a DR650 or XR400 Dazz, thumper I think his name was came to a few Harry's rides and that things was awesome. big single pot just droned away and you'll not find anything much narrower for splitting :ayyy:
