Some bikes they work others they hinder even with in the same model and year.
I asked the same Q a while back, i have a K&N and a Akra slip on my zx6r and it runs a little lean i think hence why it was over heating at Oran park when no others weren't.
Birdman recommended the DNA filters as they have a pretty good success rate across a broad range of bikes.

Depends on the bike too, I imagine. Some US testing has shown that the BMC filters work best on the CBR1000RR - and if you don't have one, do what Oggy said and get one!! :D

Yes the question has been asked but isn't in a thread with a definable title so here is a recap.

Most OEM filters in modern bikes flow just about as good as you'll get mainly because manufactures refine bikes for max hp figures so there not going to fit a restrictive air filter.

The MAIN reason to fit an aftermarket none OEM filter is because you can wash it which in the long term saves you money & you can keep filter cleaner by washing frequently. If you have OEM your going to let it get allot more restrictive before you replace it (there not a low cost item).

Out of all the air filters in the market place & what people in the know have stated these are the best in order:
1. DNA
2. BMC or Pipercross
3. K&N

Very true, the other advantage of an aftermarket quality airfilter over an oem paper filter is that they tend to flow more air when dirty than what a paper filter will flow when it's just as dirty.

BMC "race" would be my pick, but only when coupled with a full system and PC.
