Hi All,
I guess you would have to blind not to notice the massive increase of scooter riders on the road, particularly commuting into the city.
My issue, is they just don't seem develop any riding skills (granted the increase in sales I assume is driven by first time riders) or indeed sort of road craft. Personally I find them a bloody menace on the road, but maybe I'm being to harsh on our two wheeled cousins.
Just for the record: I have never ridden a scooter, however I do own a copy of Quadrophenia !!
Cheers

I think most pple that ride scooters do it for the ease of travel and not for the pleasure of riding. I guess they treat a scooter like their car - that it gets them from point A to point B. When you have this sort of mindset developing skills is not high on the priority list, if at all. Which is sad, not only for safety reasons, the enjoyment of riding goes up when you have some clue on whats going on. How many people ride once or twice and think its dangerous because they have no clue on how to control a bike? I've met my fair share. The lack of training and skills will just "drive" (no pun intended) people away from riding. I'm not saying everyone should do a superbike school, but the RTA training is no where near adequate and making people stay on their p's for three years is not going to change anything.
What scares me though, is the number of scooter riders that don't even pretend to wear any safety gear. A lady at work scoots in a skirt and open leather shoes. I guess it isn't my problem but it still scares me.

id have one brother - yes some scooter riders can be a pain in the arse but so can some shitty road bike riders. Markyg has a cute little scooter. I dont mind them at all. I remember the first time a bought a 999 ducati and thought the women would love this... Then when i did my balls on it, i parked beside a cute little Vespa. Everyone woman looked at the Vespa and the only person who looked at my DUCK was a 6 yr old kid???? But asthetics aside (and my huge ego) I could definitely wizz around Balmain and some joints round Bondi/Bronte and pretend I was the state RUBIX cube champeen.

This I aggree with , I myself wouldn't buy a scooter and am not big on them at all but I can't understand how the scotter ridders flying along the M2 at 80/100 k's thinks that a skirt/work slacks will protect them in any way . In saying that there are plenty of bike riders that also in my opinion don't wear enought safety gear but the unprotected scooter rider seems to be the far majority . I personally put the draggins and leather on every time , even if just to the shops as you never know when something bad could happen even if you are taking extreme amount of care .

Totally agree, you are spot on with this observation, I wonder what their accident rate would be. We always hear about motorcyclist's involved in a crash, so are Scooters grouped in with us, never heard of an accident reported as a "Scooter Rider" ??
i get up in the morning... S,S&S .. walk into the garage, ponder over three bikes.. and usually jump on the 100c smoker
just easier.. heaps of storage.. hit the button and go.. $7 in fuel a fortnight
but i do somewhat agree with your sentiments

+1 Exactly what i do each and every work day. Can beat the scoots for versatility and love the fact you can leave it overnight without the same fear of leaving an expensive bike overnight if you get on the cans

I could commute just as easily on a R1 as on a scooter, if not better as I'd have the power to get away from the areshole cages that think just cause they have to sit in traffic, so do I..
Be honest with yourselves, riding a scooter is only cause your a tightarse :lmao:, and is the reason the masses are flocking to scooters after the price of petrol rises...

I think Scooters are fine, but what really shits me is when they cut to the front of the line and are the slowest things to take off.. Don't cut unless your going to take off faster then my 4wd, otherwise you better expect a bullbar up your arse.
Its just rude....

I'd rather more scooters and less cages.

+1 Scooters are a great way to get to work, they are narrow, easy to park in the city and cheap to run but the only problem I have is the dreaded 'helmet hair', not a great look after I have spent most of the morning blow drying my hair and putting product in it, especially when I pull up at my favorite cafe strip in Bronte for a latte. I think scooter riders could be exempt from wearing a helmet, besides they don't go that fast anyway.
I'd rather more scooters and less cages.
Agreed :ayyy:
LOL your argument is null & void. :dohsmiley:
It just freaks me out how many fuckers on the roads these days wearing NO gloves let alone half a face helmets!

I don't mind the old scooter riders.. but .. when they cut up between cars at a hundred miles an hour.. I feel like giving them a good boot up the backside.
Specially taking into account most people are getting out of cabs or having their partners drop them off while on the way to the office in the morning etc, so lotsa car doors opening.
It's only a matter of time till the police start to tally up the escalating number of complaints and accidents from lane splitting. Then all of a sudden, one day... they start fining people for doing it! :cursing:
Don't get me wrong... I lane split all the time ( it's the only way to get around Sydney)
But....at least do it in a way you don't draw too much attention to yourself or bang into car mirrors .. or get taken out by someone's door!):Kat00:
IF I had to buy a scooter.. this would be my weapon of choice:

Italjet Dragster 180cc... It's faster from 0-100km than a 911 Porsche!!! :drivingsmiley:
0-100km = 4.8s
Top speed = 160km/h
