Got run up the arse by a taxi whilst sitting at a red light this arvo. Luckily it wasn't too bad and I was just up the road from Flywheels so one of their guys was nice enough to cast a quick eye over it to make sure it was ok to ride home, but I need to get a quote done for repairing the exhaust and checking thoroughly for damage. Any recommendations?

Buy a new can, and have the taxi pay for it.

Mate it looks like you got away lightly, he could have pushed out into the intersection (good reason to always cover the rear brake at a standstill)
As far as a rear end bingle legally no matter the reasoning the driver who makes the impact from behind is always at fault, so it should be on his insurance, did he have a passenger in the taxi?

I don't like saying this, but good luck claiming on the taxi's insurance. Had a mate get hit by a taxi bad, police came etc.. taxi insurance give him the run around for almost a year.
Probably best to find a quote and just ask for cash.

Was police called and a police report done ? doubt they wouldve with such minor damage. Youd be needing to get an incident number at the least if not. Quote for repairs is next to useless without it..

Take pics of scenes..
Have driver charged, considered at fault (his insurance will play you otherwise).
Have two quotes done.
Write a letter of demand to driver, owner, and insurer with all documentation, signed by either the sheriff or a JP.
This gives him 28 days to pay, or legal proceedings commence..

As for a quote, any bike shop will do one.. Depends were you are..

Good to hear it wasnt worse..

Covering the brake won't do much, When an old lady shunted me up the arse the rear tyre mark almost got to the top of the bonnet. I rode it out and dropped it so gentlly there was only a scratch on engine cover and bar end. I let her off and at home found a small ding in bottom of can. Never again

Why can't you just put a claim through your insurance? Usually with insurances, if you're not at fault and can identify the driver at fault you pay no excess and it's all taken care of (your insurer sorts it out with the other's insurer, or sues them, of is stuck with the bill).

I know that motorcycle insurers are notoriously pathetic, doesn't it work like this?

doesn't it work like this?
Only if proven and other party admits fault. Hence the need for a pollice report or incident #..

I've never had an issue with motor vehicles ... and I have put through dozens of claims (work). Besides, NO insurer allows their clients to admit fault, and you certainly don't have to make a police report every time. Maybe I've been lucky, and the other driver has never disputed re who was 'at fault'.

Not true, when the old lady in the merc took me out, riding of my K6 last year, she admitted fault 100%, Received full payment in under two weeks..

Check any policy, and it will state that you are not allowed to admit fault or liability. Whether they enforce this or not is something else, but my point is that it would be difficult for YOUR insurer to state that the other driver MUST admit to being at fault, when they know full well that EVERY policy requires you to do no such thing.

I guess so mate. Which is why police attendance, reports, incident numbers are a must, no matter how big or small damage is.

p,s, why do you think they make you sign a waiver and have accident reports at the track ?.

I'm planning on going back to Flywheel's for one quote, where else is good to go? The problem I've got is that the can is damaged, but it's part of a full system. A Micron titanium system. w00t. So I'll be up for a whole new system, and need a workshop who sell/deal in similar systems. I'm in Botany BTW.

I was in gear with the rear brake on so when he hit it just stalled and didn't move.

Went into a police station but since it wasn't towed and I wasn't hurt so they weren't interested. My old man is an insurance broker so he's sending off the letters on my behalf since I don't have full comp (nearly $3k premium :()

Insist on an incident number at the least mate, they MUST give you one..
There is a number to call where you do it over the ph, but just cant remember it.
Call your local station get it, and do it.

If the wrong person hits you and refuses to pay or claim on their insurance there is sweat FA you can do. You can give a solicitor more money than youre bike is worth, Prove everthing in court but still no result. Why, Because the law and court system is there to punish you or I to help Govt, Police or banks or ins co's ect. They don't give a fuck about making Joe Blow pay John Smith

Small claims court is under 10K and has no solictors involved. Put that letter of demand in asap with 2 qoutes to the driver. If hes smart he'll then give that to insurance. Then follow up with calls to see whats going on, eother with the driver or their insurance company.
They start stuffing you threaten them with court action. No final decision on payment with in 24hrs go down to your local court house and pay your fee for your time in court.

Dont forget all exspences that you have accured due to this accident. Anything that you can think off add that to your bill.

Dont take no shit off them and get what you deserve.
