$13k for a rear wheel, $10K for the front. On the Duc forum it was quoted to cost about $70 to fix 100%

Ok, the following, as stupid as they may sound, are all genuine question from an ignorant (and yet curious) rider:
Do you absolutely need to have the OEM wheels on it? Doesn't BST make a carbon version of it? Or any other manufacturer for that matter?
I was thinking that if the suspension/frame/subframe are fine you could get with turning it into something fast that's not exactly as cool as it was meant to be (but cool nonetheless) for not THAT much money... then again, I've never restored any bike (let alone a Desmo) so I wouldn't have a clue.
Ps:Having said all that, I'd rather use the money to pick up a 1098R.

Maybe with so many of them going down it will be possible to make a complete desmo...
I still say the best thing is to street fighter it
another one went down @ the creek on T2 last sunday, left side pretty much catcus. dont think it would be a write off though.
about a month ago on new south head road (double bay) there was in half near the shops. bloke lost it just past the woolworths and streetlights etc did the rest

meh. Bit of plastic welding, aftermarket wheels and buff out the scratches on the engine casing and she'll be as good as new. What I find with repairing bikes as opposed to cars is that people "repair" the panels on cars whilst on bikes people just "replace" all of the broken bits. Doesn't really make sense to me.

I suppose as been already said, if you wanted every nut, bolt, & washer to be to factory spec, it would cost a small fortune. But if you did most of the work yourself, & wasnt worried if it was factory fresh, I doubt it would be that expencive, as long as it was running & pretty straight, with mostly cosmetic damage.

do you really need carbon? You can replace it with some dodgy fibreglass work and make a tracky out of it. Like few others have mentioned it. Do you want to keep it stock or make something else out of it. I would make something else which still would be fast as hell.
you could put a set of honda gold wing plastics on just to piss off the duke boys

Or even a Hyosung one!:lmao::lmao::stirthepot:
I would street fighter it, just to piss them off, much easier for it to have no fairings.
now... how do you check valve clearances on desmos?
