I know, not this again
My insurance renewal has come up again and I reckon it's too much and besides that, they don't cover me fully if I get hit by an uninsured driver/rider.
What insurance company are you using? Anyone know who is cheap at the moment?
Thanks in advance.

WQBE but first get an online quote of insuremyride and WQBE should match it.

:lmao:yep bloody insurance quotes , you know john just ring around but I'm with WQBE on the bike but when it's up I'm going to check out quit a few because i don't ride as much and not running up the k's so should get a better deal . I just bought a run around car and you would think being insured with the gio on multiple policies then I'd get a good deal on a third part property policy , no way :cursing:i ended up getting aami to insure it as it was nearly $100 cheaper:confused1:.

I got a pretty good quote from insuremyride.com. Are they any good with claims?

I recently went through Companion credit union. They were half price compared to WQBE and Insure my ride.

WQBE, but ring around first, they always smash the others when they know they need to.
Things could be worse, my son 18, bought a new Swift last week, $1750ish dollars for a bloody suzuki swift. His GSXR600 was $1k they really penalise the young fellas

I am still using Shannon's as I have agreed value - the value figure is still higher than what I paid for the bike 3 years ago so I would rather pay a slight premium for the time being just in case something happens
Ouch that is a lot of dollars for the young guy
I remember when I bought my gsxr 1000 back when they were first released back in 01 - I was 24 and they wanted $6000!!!!!!

I've been quoted 8k for an R1, 13K for a busa :eyecrazy: from NRMA; probably the worst for young riders/drivers.
The cbr900 costs under 600 fully comp, 'experienced' owner with IMR

when i had the r6 on the street it was 900 for full comp with arista...... i was 23 with a driving history the length of my right arm

Shannons full comp for just under $600 , was the cheapest I could find for a 02 GSX-R 600 .

I just tried to complete Shannons on-line quote form and they don't even list a GSX-R1000 in their Suzuki list of insurable bikes.
The highest they go to is a GSX-R600.
Must be because we don't "shift by feeeeel" like some other bike riders do lol

I looked at Shannons but the statement on the front page we don't insure a motorcycle over $20K so didn't even get a quote but might try back for the 636 seeing Veitch's price is more than half what i pay through QBE
WTF Point #4...when the have a Duc 999 on the add.

Try ebike insurance (.com.au). They have been good with a couple of car claims and the fully comp bike insurance is reasonable. All riding gear is covered if part of the bike claim and the service so far has been spot on. The only downside is "market value" which I could not get a figure for. When I called up to ask they said to see what the Red Book value is plus any mods that are agreed on the policy. They do discount for rider training courses (CSS too).

Just watch the fine print with ebike and Insure my ride as i know one voids your full comp insurance if your bike if it gets stolen from anywhere but your lock up garage?

I'm with IMR, the ebike doesn't work for me since the bike needs to be garaged after 10pm. I know few people who claimed with ebike and they had no issues. I've claimed with IMR and I got a brand new bike in 3 weeks. No issues as well.
You have to read the fine print with all insurance policies and see which one will work for you.

Insure my ride, full comprehensive insurance on a 2003 R1 with $2k of mods (suspension/pipe/screen), I am over 40, bike is garaged, alarm on bike, and they still want $2100 per annum, $400 excess!!!!
Covers the bike to $10,400
In 3 years I could buy another one
For me it's only $1200 per year. Could be the area you are in.

I'm with Insure my ride; GSXR600 2001, market value (was $7200@jan'09), pay online and for full year gets you a discount, also with $1500 of extras, $1000 for clothing, my excess is $750 (I choose that value) and it costs...........$530.
It was better than the few quotes I chased up..
oh yeah.....34 yrs old, 60% no claim and a garaged bike.......

They do insure bikes over 20k, they just dont give quotes online - you need to ring them up.
I have my new KTM RC8 insured with them 28k i think, it was no drama at all to get it insured, took me about 5 minutes over the phone. I have a limited use policy with shannons which is pretty much for weekend use only as my bike is a toy and I dont ride on week days. By taking this option I managed to get my '65 mustang insured and the RC8 for a total value of 70k i think for $1100 / year - if you have more than 1 vehicle with them you get a discount (based on the fact that it is VERY hard to both drive your car and ride your bike at the same time and hence cant crash both).
Give Shannons a go, they have been good for me (I have made 1 not at fault claim which was sorted out very quickly)

Yeah I got a discount on my KTM640Adv (full comp) becuause I also have my Race bike insured with them (fire/theft) :o)
But just ring around because it's really hopeless asking what other people pay, it's too dependant on where you live, how old you are, your driving/riding history and what kind of bike you are insuring.

Shannon's.... be very careful! I am currently in a dispute with Shannon's, being the NOT at fault rider with agreed value and full admission of responsability by the other party who was insured with W/QBE (and has been completely sorted out)..... they are not who they say they are "the insurer for motoring enthusiasts"... I am disgusted at the way they have executed this whole matter!!!! I will tell more after this is resolved. But for now take some advice from "2" Shannon's approved repairers... "Go with Western QBE"

Very true but as bad as people think Mt druitt may be we have nothing on a lot of suburbs for car theft and crime these days, maybe most of the scum bags have died or moved on.

This thread got me thinking to go and get some quotes. I am currently insured with Shannons, but have heard a few stories about them not paying up come claim time. So i went to IMR for a quote, and one of the first questions they ask is this:
Have you made any illegal modifications to your bike or modifications not approved by your state's transport authority?
Does that mean my Yoshi slipon, constantly being talked about on here with cops providing inspection notices, voids my opportunity to insure through these guys?

Yep, it is, but the 2 products will differ. Shannons is owned by the same group that owns GIO, and Suncorp, etc, but I am sure the policies between a lot of them will differ in some way or another.

My point exactly. It's like the suspended license in the last 5 years questions. I informed shannons when I took out my insurance that my license had been suspended 4 years before hand, then I heard 6 months later that they wouldn't pay claims if that was the case. Well they took my money to insure it didn't they....

If it is noted on the policy they can't really say much can they ?

I received my renewal from QBE this morning , i was previously paying $700 a year for market value ($10600) just the basic full comp with reduced riding time.
The new charge is $798 :confused1:so I'm not re insuring with QBE and did ring a few today for quotes ,
insure my ride - $611 :)
shannons -$739:(
gio -$954:(
swan -$804:(
ebike -$1143::confused1:
I gave them all the same info and with insurance to cover a few days a week riding just in case, also di a quote for just weekend riding and the only one that was cheaper was insure my ride for $582 and they are also the cheapest for a claim , just $400 WITH THE SAME VALUE AT $10600.

yes i rang them after reading your post, they will match a quote that has $4000 in gear cover added to the other policy which in my case lifts the policy to $684 on insure my ride , an extra $114 , if i had leathers then i would cover them, but for a pair of draggins and a textile jacket and boot , gloves and a helmet i don't think the extra $ are worth it.
spanky158
12-08-2009, 09:35 PM
do you mean an extra 114 bucks with the 4000 gear cover? That extra 114 isn't even the cost of a new pair of draggins, let alone helmet, jacket, gloves, boots....I say it's worth it. Still a damn sight cheaper than what I am paying for a very similar bike (02 R1), I can't work it out.

Insuremyride sucks when you go to make a claim.
A big pain in the the butt for me, and mine was a 3rd party claim.
From now on, I'm paying a bit extra for the likes of NRMA

My husband picked up his new R1 yesterday. He was going to go with swan, the only problem is that if you state you only use it on weekends, you wont be covered for a mid week accident. With insure my ride, if you state weekend/recreational use, it's just an indication of how often you ride.
Considering he made a claim in January (the bike was a complete write-off), Shanons insured him for $1,200 and came with many inclusions (I think about $4Kgear & pillion passengers & gear etc).
Shanons were pretty good when he made the claim also. He was paid out within a couple of weeks.

yes an extra $114 with the gear cover :ayyy: it's all comes down to the claim ,like belinda has said they (insure my ride) are or could be a pain when claiming , but i also have heard from a mate that gio are bad but have had no problems over the years with the gio, i think it comes down to a lot of variables .
